Tarnation  Christine   Favoriting Mirador  4ad  1997  CD  In honor of the new American Girls doll shop that opened near me in Minneapolis. Hopefully, the dolls of today will haunt in the future as the dolls of the past haunt today. 
Peter Blegvad & John Greaves  The Only Song   Favoriting Unearthed  Sub Rosa  1995  CD  There's something prettily sinister about this song...it's like sugar water torture. 
The Special Pillow  Blue Always   Favoriting Sleeping Beauty  Self Released  2007  CD  In my opinion, a perfect song. Sung by FMU family tree branch Katie Gentile, from the band starring Dan Cuddy, ex of earlier FMU faves Hypno Love Wheel.

Bill Wells  Wiltz   Favoriting you don't need darkness to do what you think is right v/a  Geographic  2002  CD  A little tip- this amazing collection on Stephen Pastel's Geographic label keeps showing up online for around a few dollars or less. I highly suggest picking one up! 
Carl Orff  Gassenhauer   Favoriting the trip v/a  Universal UK  2006  CD  Eclectic and excellent double disc mix curated by Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey of Pulp. 
Ann Magnuson  Is This Heaven?   Favoriting Pretty Songs & Ugly Stories  Self Released  2006  CD  Recent release from former Bongwater starlet (& memorable CBGB FMU benefit performer) Ann Magnuson. She sells these herself- you could pick one up from her and make life better. 
Mick Turner / Tren Brothers  Carny   Favoriting Blue Trees  Drag City  2007  CD  This album from Mick Turner and Jim White (of The Dirty Three) might be my favorite release from these folks. Varied, surreal, dizzying, and melodic. 
Helen & Anita Carter  Today   Favoriting More Michigas From The Airwaves  self made mix  2008  CD-R  From Laura Cantrell's marathon premium compilation...of course you would trust Laura with this kind of music as readily as you would trust The Mayo Clinic for a check up.

Hours after this show I was in Brooklyn dancing to Sly with friends- honestly, if I share one thing with you it's that you should give that a go.

June Tabor & Maddy Prior  The Grey Funnel Line   Favoriting The Silly Sisters  Shanachie Records  1976    Two English folk greats take hold of one of the prettiest traditional folk songs. For a great alternate version, try Denise Roughan (of The 3D's and Look Blue Go Purple)'s feedback laden version. 
Band Of Holy Joy  snippet from   Favoriting Punk Lore  Self Released      Lord knows this band deserves more than a snippet, but for now this is a tiny sample of a voice that precedes a song on their new ep. 
Ruth  87 Sundays   Favoriting Dream Babes Volume Five: Folk Rock And Faithful  RPM  2004  CD  Amazing bit of psyche folk from the 60's...sounds sweet and casual, but listen to the detailed and at times intense lyrics within.

Hermine  Torture   Favoriting The World On My Plates  LTM    CD  From a brilliant retrospective of Hermine (the voice from Flying Lizards, among other things)- covering the Everly Brothers classic Torture (with Lizards members backing her up).
