Listener comments!

  11:11pm
Laurie:

Please tell Tommy Tornado he can't give up.
  11:11pm
efd:

i can haz scores plz?
  11:11pm
monica:

x-lent opening choice, evan! the bryatollah rules....
  11:12pm
john:

sox up 8-2, bottom 9...that what you're looking for?
  11:14pm
efd:

yes, thanks John! how about the Yanks and Rays?

thx Monica... Laurie, I'll see if I can talk him out of it!
  11:14pm
john:

8-2 Sox final. Rays won 8-4, Texas beating Junkees 8-6 in the 8th, but the rangers really have no pitching at all.
  11:15pm
Sybil:

Sorry I'm late! Did I miss anything?
  11:16pm
john:

Well, we missed you! Does that count? Oh, and the baseball roundup.
  11:17pm
Sybil:

Bryan Ferry! Waaaaaaaah!
  11:18pm
dave:

belatedly: all due respect to mr. bryan ferry who i do truly adore, but i'm just not sure there's such thing as a cover of sympathy for the devil that comes within light years of the original.
  11:19pm
Sybil:

John, i was watching about four games and lost track of the time.

Damn modern technology and the horse it rode in on!
  11:20pm
john:

I'm following everything on mlb.com myself. Shouldn't modern technology be riding in on a Segway or something?
  11:21pm
efd:

look at me asking for score updates as if i had time to read/respond during my opening set...
  11:21pm
Jason:

so this is what the wicked awesome sound like!
  11:23pm
dave:

oddly, it's pretty close to how i'd imagined it.
  11:25pm
john:

They sound wicked awesome. But baseball waits for no man, as we go to the 9th with the Rangers holding on to an 8-6 lead.
  11:25pm
Jim:

It wasn't that awesome. It was good though.
  11:25pm
Sybil:

"information entropy" is kind of... redundant... or something.
  11:34pm
Jim:

How's that
  11:35pm
Jim:

Are you all going to be playing regular music during the old-timers week?
  11:35pm
Sybil:

regular music? Say what?
  11:36pm
john:

Special guest John Sterling says, "Yankees lose! Theeeeeeeeeee Yankees lose!"
  11:37pm
Droll:

Thanks for the heads up about JF/DS tomorrow! I hope he goes for a Notes-Per-Show record.
  11:38pm
Sybil:

Thanks, john. I'm blacked out from that one.

Now waiting out the Dodgers game. Can you guess why?
  11:39pm
john:

Is it Manny-related? In a pool for when he doesn't run out his first ground ball?
  11:40pm
efd:

John - banned!
  11:41pm
Sybil:

Oooh, MUMS!
  11:41pm
efd:

has anyone here heard of The Skunks before?

Jim - the music will depend on the guests... it will be as "regular" as their shows were, I'd guess.
  11:42pm
john:

What'd I say? In case I'm being suspended without pay, trust me, Jason Bay is the perfect hitter for Fenway. Righty who hits righties and is most devastating when he pulls the ball. 4 for 5 tonight.
  11:43pm
efd:

Sybil, you'll have to handle this... if I get into it there'll be a lot of dead air on tonight's show!
  11:44pm
Sybil:

Manny draws a BB. He's 2-for-3 tonight. He's batting, what, .700 with LA?
  11:45pm
john:

Oh, and Bay's seven years younger, hustles, never got voted 23-1 off his team, and is signed for a year and a half. He's a hell of a ballplayer.
  11:45pm
dave:

holy cats, imaginary icons are wireiffic.

and by "wireiffic", i mean "wicked awesome".
  11:46pm
efd:

funny you should mention wire...
  11:47pm
dave:

someone's got to lob the softballs for you to knock the free concert announcement out of the park.
  11:48pm
efd:

not to mention i already had them cued up!
  11:48pm
dave:

YAY
  11:49pm
Jim:

I enjoy the new Wire stuff. I liked the EPs from the past few years, too. Play some more obscure crap though.
  11:49pm
Amanda:

I am pretty sure I've heard of the Skunks, but not actually familiar with them. (How many times has someone said that about a band they don't actually know at all?) Regarding that track I'm mainly disappointed that E.L. is on vacation and couldn't hear that "happy how-do-you-do."

Dave, way to ESP the segue!
  11:50pm
efd:

John, seriously, I appreciate your comments and Red Sox fandom, but to paraphrase Jerry Remy during last year's pizza-tossing incident: that type of behavior will not be tolerated in this ballpark!
We will have to agree to disagree re Manny.
  11:51pm
Sybil:

My bad, Manny's batting .625 for the Dodgers.

It took so long because I had to add, and I ran out of fingers.
  11:52pm
G:

Try base ten. Works well with fingers, I hear. :-)
  11:52pm
john:

Happy to agree to disagree. Manny's a hall of famer, Bay isn't. Yet. And Bay's only hitting .429 for Boston, with no game-ending double plays. I'll shut up about it now, but we can revisit in October when the Sox are playing and the Dodgers (who I will be seeing a few times in LA in a couple weeks!) aren't.
  11:52pm
Sybil:

Heh, john, that's no kind of bait. You think I have to choose, and I don't.
  11:56pm
Sybil:

efd, it's rare to see such a pure exemplar of MUMS in the wild. The thing to do is to allow it to pass in respectful silence, I think.
  11:56pm
G:

Skunks bootleg video 1979

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGU7cf6d6vo
  11:58pm
john:

Sybil, MUMS? And that Vermillion Sands record was, well, wicked awesome.
  11:58pm
Sybil:

nenesynchronicity!
  12:04am
Sybil:

LA/StL going extra innings. Oy.
  12:07am
Sybil:

Vermillion sands, in the 3.5 seconds I looked at their very cluttered, bandwith-chewing myspace page, seemed to be from Italy. So prolly no relation to nene records. Oh well.
  12:13am
efd:

ah, thx Sybil.

John, i suggest you go to joyofsox.blogspot.com and scroll down a bit to the Manny posts... the views of the guy who runs that site are pretty much in-line with mine, and he's more eloquent than me. :)
(at least, when i'm doing my show)
  12:16am
Sybil:

Intentional walk to El Maestro. Heh.
  12:20am
john:

I'll do that. I'm happy to say there are two sides to this rather emotional issue, just trying to see the bright side of what was a really quite hideously bad situation for all concerned before the deal. It's cool.
  12:23am
frenchee:

hey efd, who's the celeb winner?
I probably didn't even recognize the famous one...
  12:27am
Jim:

Hm.
  12:29am
john:

Julian Cope heals all wounds.
  12:29am
efd:

Liz, I'll email you; I don't want to say it out loud.

Jim, why hm?
  12:31am
frenchee:

hee, ok. Must be a good one!

and wait, isn't Julian Cope the heel that wounds?
  12:32am
Sybil:

There is no wound. There is no heel.

I am one with the playlist.
  12:32am
john:

Knew it was one or the other. Quite not impossibly both.
  12:46am
Jim:

Hm because of the Pollard tune. I am a sucker for him, and that kind of stuff in general, but that wasn't doing it for me at all. Do you have anything perkier?
  12:54am
efd:

I haven't listened to the CD that closely yet, but I'll give it another listen this week.
  12:56am
Sybil:

It's pouring rain in Atlanta, and they're still playing.

Heh. Yoyo. Not pitching tonight, though.
  12:57am
Sybil:

efd, if you have a chance, check out the Tavarez clip I found which I posted today.

And thanks for the song!
  1:01am
Jim:

Oh I meant in general, not off the Pollard disc.
  1:02am
Laurie:

The world is ending. Paris Hilton made me laugh: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/64ad536a6d
  1:02am
john:

Have to ask, Tavarez as in Yo-Yo or as in Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel?
  1:02am
Sybil:

Laurie, I'm afraid to look at that link.
  1:02am
Jim:

Yo!
  1:03am
Jim:

I bet you can't do a baseball set.
  1:04am
efd:

Jim, maybe you'll dig the Thomas Function single coming up....
  1:04am
Sybil:

If it were the latter, John, it would be Tavares.

Don't worry, a lot of people make that mistake!

Man, sliding in the mud in Atlanta.
  1:05am
john:

I knew that, and should have assumed you did. I seem to have a lot to apologize for tonight.
  1:05am
Jim:

Eh, they are ok.
  1:06am
efd:

or, maybe not! ;)
  1:07am
Sybil:

No apologies needed!
  1:08am
efd:

i can't do a baseball set *right now*, but i bet i could put one together with some advance planning...
  1:08am
Sybil:

What, Jim, not perky enough?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

meanwhile, in Altlanta, I think they're bulding an ark in the outfield
  1:10am
john:

I've been following the Twins and Mariners spending the last few innings each deciding the other team should really win.
  1:12am
Sybil:

I notice Detroit and the ChiSox are still at it!

And Boston's other team wins its water polo match, 11-4.
  1:18am
efd:

wow, when did that Det/Chi game start? it's approaching all-star length!
  1:18am
john:

As for the Mariners, even their own broadcasters are a little inconsistent in their pronunciation of the closer's last name. If I were called Putz (and more than once I have been), I'd be sending out daily memos reminding people that it's u as in push.
  1:19am
Jim:

Detroit lost in horrifying fashion.
  1:19am
Sybil:

It just ended after 14 innings (or 13.5, I'm not sure). I think it started at 8.
  1:21am
Sybil:

Where is tony d/miss b?

Hmm, I see what you mean about the Twins game, John.
  1:27am
Jim:

I think you would lose our bet technically if you did that.
  1:29am
john:

How about every team's edition of Terry Cashman's Tallkin' Baseball?
  1:32am
efd:

i would rather lose the bet than play any team's version of Talkin' Baseball, even the Red Sox version.
  1:32am
efd:

(not that there's an actual bet on the table)
  1:35am
Jim:

Yeah if you took the offer I mean.
  1:41am
Sybil:

So the songs have to be about baseball? Or is it enough if they have baseball connections?
  1:43am
Jim:

Nah I just meant vaguely connected to baseball.
  1:44am
Jessica:

Fugu = [deadly if prepped by jr sushi chef] pufferfish.
  1:44am
Jim:

Not necessarily any over the top MLB lyrics like that Baseball Project band.
  1:46am
efd:

oh, like on that Simpsons episode!
  1:47am
efd:

and Sybil, good question re Toni D - i have no idea!
  1:50am
efd:

Simpsons episode about puffer fish, that is
  1:53am
Jessica:

I had one in my cubicle @ Berkeley Systems. In an aquarium. A great big cubicle-perimeter-making aquarium, with a sassy flirtatious pufferfish making eyes with me. (He's not in the screen saver, but does appear on the boxer shorts.) Oh, how I miss that little fugu.
  1:55am
Sybil:

How about this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ4mJhvHI8I
  1:56am
john:

how about the intruders' love is like a baseball game? No actual MLB content, but still...
  1:57am
Sybil:

Jessica, you worked at Berkley Systems? After Dark Berkley Systems?
  1:57am
john:

OK Sybil, that was a shade freaky. Excellent choice, though!
  1:58am
Sybil:

Dang, John, GMTA!
  1:58am
john:

And so do we!
  2:00am
Sybil:

I actually own that record. A 45.
  2:01am
john:

Ditto, in point of fact. Think I prefer Cowboys To Girls, though.
