Listener comments!

  11:03pm
Joe:

Turn on the convention, mute the tv, turn up the radio.

Trippy.
  11:08pm
efd:

Hi Joe! Is Hillary's speech on?
  11:11pm
john:

Greetings from the west coast! No Dodger tix yet, but I'll get to a game before I head home--who wants a Manny hat (complete with dreads)?
  11:13pm
Joe:

Just finished. She hit her roll during "I am, I am.' With the background song, reaction shots from Chelsea, Bill, and Mrs. Obama, it was quite delightful.
  11:13pm
efd:

Hi John! You've still got the whole evening ahead of you!

That hat sounds amazing, but I don't really have a hat face. (tm Kevin McDonald)
  11:15pm
Joe:

Kids in the Hall reference? +10 points for FunkeDavies.
  11:19pm
Droll:

Wow, Billie Davis sounds all crack'd up,,, or on 45... or 78!
  11:20pm
efd:

that was a CD! so she was at her original speed, whatever that might have been.
  11:22pm
C:

Gotta say that Hillary nailed it
  11:26pm
C:

Definitely send it out to her! Would have been better than the music she had playing behind her retrospective video -- "You Really Got Me" (VH version), "Are you Gonna Go My Way" and other crap
  11:26pm
john:

Really long day tomorrow (breakfast date at 9am, recording studio at 9pm), so I'm going to take advantage of the show ending at 11 out here and just pretend it's 2am. Doggers aren't home for 10 more days, so I won't have a chance to get the hat for a while anyway.

And Hillary did nail it, but it's a shame most of the networks missed Brian Schweitzer before her talking about the "petrodictators." Massive home run.
  11:31pm
Droll:

. o O ( Gotta be the crack... Was it even 3min long?)
BTW, the opening volley of Leif Garret then April Wine was brilliant. The graphic description of the Leif cover was really unnecessary, though.
  11:36pm
Joe:

I know Leif Garret solely through that truly fucked-up "Behind the Music"

Also I think he was just on that new comedy central reality show that makes fun of reality shows.
  11:39pm
C:

Were the lyrics to this Urban Verbs song serious or a joke?
  11:40pm
Matt:

I liked them. They were like a combination of early David Byrne and "Monster Mash".
  11:42pm
efd:

C, I'm pretty sure they were serious.

Matt, good call on the D. Byrne since Chris Frantz's brother was in the band.
  11:44pm
john:

Picture worth a thousand words department...

http://deadspin.com/5038203/the-manny-wigs-are-here-get-em-while-they-last
  11:48pm
C:

I think Urban Verbs are back together. They at least played a show in DC earlier this year.
  11:55pm
john:

Was that the Urban Verbs album that had the song Subways on it? I thought that was pretty cool in high school, but I cringe to think what seemed cool to me at 17....
  11:55pm
efd:

John, for a moment I thought that was going to be a link to the Leif Garret LP cover until I read the whole link.
Are you at liberty to disclose what you will be doing in a Los Angeles recording studio at 9pm tomorrow?
  11:57pm
efd:

yep, Subway is on that same Urban Verbs album. It's not bad!
  11:58pm
Joe:

Blow, would be my guess. Isn't it required? Like a jacket at a fancy restauraunt?
  11:59pm
john:

Yes I am totally at liberty, but for my own benefit I shall think of it as a vanity project unless or until we actually finish it.

And Joe, this is LA. Never got used to it as a stuffy New Englander, but you don't actually need a jacket at a fancy restaurant. Brought two anyway.
  12:00am
Matt:

Oh, Numero Group. You did it again.

Hopefully there's a "Home Schooled 2" comp on the horizon.
  12:07am
Joe:

You throw that "ticket" in there live, every week?
  12:12am
Droll:

Joe, I can't believe I actually heard "at the" tonight -- the EFD falsetto "Ticket" is usually solid on the beat.... First missed "ticket" I've ever heard. It's like starting with the 70's... wait for it... wait for it.... Ticket! [YES!]
  12:13am
Joe:

We should mock him relentlessly for the rest of the night.
  12:13am
Joe:

--- By phone.
  12:14am
Droll:

Guffaw! I'm calling his boss! Ken runs a tight ship over there,
  12:16am
efd:

oh boy, tough crowd!

(I can't believe I missed it either!)
  12:22am
Joe:

The Shining Path? Geeze, I wonder what their politics are like.
  12:25am
efd:

coincidentally there is also an album in the new bin that's called "Shining Path" (by a totally different band)
  12:28am
Joe:

WFMU is like communism: No class. *Rimshot*
  12:36am
Laurie:

OOoooohhh! My schedule's thrown off without Tommy Tornado.

I see you played some hometown heroes earlier in the show. Jacuzzi Boys!! They are going to play Miami with Quintron in a couple of months. Yay.
  12:38am
Randy in NC:

Hey, maybe this is old news that everyone knows about, but I see that MLB is going to start using instant replays to check home run calls starting this Thursday! Odd they would start with a month to go in the season.
  12:43am
efd:

Hey Randy! I did hear that news earlier today... I am guessing they're starting now so they can get any kinks worked out before the post-season.
I have been restraining myself from commenting on tonight's Sox-Yankeee festivities, btw.

Laurie, tell the Jacuzzi Boys to come up here! That single's great!
  12:44am
Laurie:

Will do, friendo!
  12:45am
Joe:

Oh yes, comment on the FESTIVITIES.

Feelin' FESTIVE.
  12:50am
efd:

yes, well, let's just say that I am going to make sure I set my DVR to record the encore presentation of tonight's game at 9am tomorrow.
Since I wasn't able to see it tonight.

It sounded like a good game to me....
  12:51am
Randy in NC:

The article I'm reading says it's only to determine if a HR was fair of foul, if it actually went over the fence, or if there was fan interference. Not for strike zone calls or safe/out calls, or catches.
  12:51am
Randy in NC:

"of" should be "or"
  12:52am
Joe:

Seriously though, I feel like I'm trapped beneath a burning couch.
  12:52am
Randy in NC:

Hey, the America Breed version of this was the first record I ever got.
  12:53am
efd:

right, that's what I heard also - just using it for home runs, at least for now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it expanded to safe/out calls at some point, with a limit on how many times per game a manager could ask for a play to be reviewed. I can't see them using it for ball/strike calls, though.
  12:59am
Joe:

"Evil Woman" was the absolute best inclusion on the GTA 4 soundtrack. You haven't lived until you've driven a car full of gangsters, chasing another car full of gangsters, with people shooting out the windows, to the beat of "Evil Woman"
  12:59am
Joe:

Kind of like "Horse with No Name" in GTA; San Andreas. It was good for driving the boat.
  11:31am
Nick the Bard:

Not THAT Evil Woman (ELO's), the Sabbath one that was only on the UK version of the album until like, 2002 or something.

As to good GTA songs, try to match up the mission Boomshine Saigon in Vice City (Re: driving Phil to the hospital) with Toto's Africa. That really brings a new freakishly disturbing feel to the song. (probably need to do it with the PS2 version though, Xbox turned down the drunkeness wobble effect).

Welcome To The Jungle works way too well on the final mission in San Andreas, to the point that it was probably MEANT for it, but they didn't think to perma-start it like they did with Holy Diver/whatever the mission was that opens the second island in Vice City Stories.
