The book 1491 is well written and has some very interesting views on the sustainable agriculture of the ancient cultures. Growing beans and corn together to supplement and not destroy the soil is a bit of brilliance we need to revisit. THERE IS TONS OF UNLEARNING TO DO!!!

You make your own armor and, often, your own weapons (shinai (sp?), rapier and blunted steel) and then whack the hell out of each other. I'm not involved yet, but I know the basics.
