Listener comments!

  11:09pm
Joe:

I'm going to assume that wasn't The Bishops, the UK indie band, and was instead The Bishops, a far more obscure and awesome band that I haven't heard of.

I have a feeling there's going to be alot of that tonight. Educate me, Davies!
  11:13pm
The Mansfield Mauler:

Must be real vinyl-- I heard a skip! Thanks for keeping your promises EFD!
  11:14pm
Joe:

And he pulled off a real-live drop-in! I am not getting any work done tonight.
  11:15pm
E.L.:

Let's shake these post-sox blues with some EFD mayhem!
  11:20pm
john:

Ready for Waugh? Ohhh.
  11:21pm
efd:

hi everyone, I'll probably be too frantic to do a lot of commenting tonight but don't let that stop you! Thanks for tuning in!
  11:21pm
listening john:

can EFD talk any faster!
  11:24pm
john:

We'll do our best to pick up the slack. Gives me three hours where I'm not thinking about margins of error, so I owe you that much. Great set, btw. Singles are so doggone cool.
  11:26pm
Joe:

We could just slag the Rays for 2 1/2 hours.
  11:26pm
E.L.:

This has got to be like making a live mix tape, while writing out the artist, song, album, etc. Thanks EFD.
  11:28pm
john:

That'll just get the Rays riled. Similarities between 2008 Rays and 1969 Mets abound...whoa, the Selecter!
  11:29pm
Joe:

Hey, I might be showing my age... but whats the Hurrah?
  11:32pm
randy in NC:

Hurrah, a club that was big in the late '70's early '80's. It was uptown near Lincoln Center.
  11:32pm
efd:

Hurrah was the best club in NYC in 1979ish-early 80s. it was up near Lincoln Center- saw a ton of great shows there in my college days.
  11:33pm
john:

Irrelevantly, also the name of one of the best (and most unjustly forgotten) English jangle-pop bands of the 80s. Never played at the club of the same name, sadly, I believe.
  11:34pm
Joe:

OH cool so it's like The Fillmore at Irving Plaza now?

... kidding, kidding...
  11:35pm
efd:

watch it, Joe, you're thisclose to being banned for making that comparison!
  11:35pm
randy in NC:

Except Irving Plaza was Irving Plaza then...
  11:36pm
Amanda:

Again I will say: I missed WNYU's golden years, which have to have been 1978-81. Yay XTC! Yay war-themed 7"s (instead of actual war)!
  11:36pm
Andrew in Midland Park:

Generals and Majors - still so relevant - Black Sea, amazing compilation - "perfect album side"
  11:37pm
Rob:

Appreciate the tickets for the Urinals last week, efd. Had a blast at the knitting factory.

Also, if you want to drop that Joe kid, you have my full endorsement.
... kidding, kidding...
  11:40pm
john:

two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please
  11:46pm
Michael on the left coast:

Delta Five!!! Rockin'
Sadly it's not "You"
  11:48pm
E.L.:

Let's not pick on Joe. That's Age-ism. Keep rocking, Joe.
  11:49pm
Michael on the left coast:

TRB!!!
How about Kimberley Rew?
Or The Motors?
Or The Higsons?
Or (inside reference) The Cosmopolitans?
  11:49pm
Michael on the left coast:

TRB!!!
How about Kimberley Rew?
Or The Motors?
Or The Higsons?
Or (inside reference) The Cosmopolitans?
  11:50pm
Joe:

I'm trying, I'm trying. Apparently I was just born 15 years too late.

Stupid gentrification, ruining everything before I got to show up...
  11:51pm
Joe:

It's not THAT inside! It's on his wikipedia page!

Take THAT old people!
  11:53pm
john:

i'm surprised, but there's only overlap so far with two 45s on my shelves--looks like we were buying at the same time, too I'll put the over/under at seven. Haven't heard this in a while!
  11:53pm
Meth Dealer:

hey Evan my man.....how did that bag you picked up this afternoon work out? Remember only do a little at a time.
  11:53pm
Michael on the left coast:

Any Spizz there Evan?
Nice to see Hurrah name checked here.
  11:55pm
efd:

yes to Spizz and Higsons - K. Rew and Motors I only have on LP, so not here tonight.

I have a Wikipedia page?
  11:57pm
Joe:

Yah man.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evan_%22Funk%22_Davies

It used to say you could fly and shit.
  11:58pm
Amanda:

Whoa! It's got your birth year, too, right at the top... heh
  11:58pm
Joe:

Oh, and now it says you're the BBC economics correspondent.

And all this time, I thought that Masshole accent.
  11:59pm
Rob:

"Evan is also the BBC economics correspondent"?

-well done
  11:59pm
Joe:

*was a*
  11:59pm
Michael on the left coast:

Ahhhhhh!
Okay how about Tenpole Tudor?
  12:00am
Terre T:

The Only Ones,Mo-dettes, Splodgessabounds, Spizzenergi...Diggin it !!!!
Evan , how the HELL ru doin accuplaylist, DJing and COMMENTING on the comments page?
  12:00am
Michael from the left coast:

Only a drummer could do that!
  12:01am
efd:

TT, you left out "and corresponding on economics for the BBC!"
  12:01am
john:

nothing a couple boxes of dexatrim can't handle...
  12:03am
Joe:

Nah, if I had to bet, I'd say he's raging on the yizzerd.
  12:04am
Terre T:

Thx 4 Eddie & the Hot Rods!
  12:05am
efd:

i don't even know what you guys are talking about.

seriously.
  12:07am
Terre T:

Ok, there's no way yer doin this ALL yerself... who's yr Ass Prod, Davies??!?!?
  12:08am
Joe:

Hey, what Evan does in his free time is nobody's business!!

Oh... you're talking about something different.
  12:08am
efd:

i'm here all by myself, i swear! i've got witnesses.
  12:09am
Charles:

Yes, who is your ass prod Evan?
  12:09am
john:

Saw ultravox at the Agora in West Hartford in '82 or 83. Better live than one might have feared.
  12:11am
efd:

saw them at the aforementioned Hurrah in 1981, i think - right after Midge Ure joined. i thought they were great!
  12:13am
john:

yeah, i approached it with some trepidation though i loved the records, just because some synth-heavy bands kind of sucked live. fantastic show, though! Think you saw them a tour or two before me.
  12:15am
Marcelo:

oh, two heavies on the WFMU, Evan and Terre T...
a South American punk special please, there are people on the villas and favelas doing music.....
thanx efd
  12:20am
Joe:

This is hands down the most -fucked up- Tina Turner song I have ever heard, in my life.
  12:21am
john:

and you said that before the "great googa mooga" bit
  12:26am
Joe:

Sorry Ev, Irene beat you to "Everybody's Happy" on monday. She played the Moodies too! I should start catching her show more regularly.
  12:28am
E.L.:

It's not a race, Joe.
  12:29am
efd:

i fought Irene, and Irene won
  12:33am
matt:

wow an evan singles show! great....meaning maybe you have actually brought in that old chestnut 'homocide' by 999?
id love to hear that.
  12:38am
Michael from the left coast:

And I thought it was Bruce Woolley
  12:38am
efd:

ooh, sorry Matt, i left that at home - i felt like i'd played some other 999 tracks fairly recently so i didn't bring anything by them tonight.
  12:38am
efd:

heh, good one Michael
  12:43am
matt:

i got it just now. the name-999.
999 as opposed to 666?
i'm on fire.
  12:44am
Michael from the left coast:

Did you bring the Cyclones with you by chance? Been a long long time since I heard "You're So Cool"
  12:44am
efd:

Matt, you give me too much credit!
  12:45am
efd:

no Cyclones- i played that when I had the Individuals on in August, so i left that at home too.

i overthink this stuff, don't i.
  12:48am
eenie:

how about "this is love" by the gist? while you're playing all my favorite songs from from 1982...
  12:49am
randy in NC:

I saw the Specials at Hurrah's
  12:55am
efd:

sorry, eenie, no Gist 45s here!
  1:00am
efd:

Randy, was that the show that was broadcast on WLIR? I think i have a copy of that at home somewhere.
  1:02am
MArcelo:

ohhh Stephanie Nuttal (from Manicured Noise) lived here till 1982!!!!! she plays drums on Sumo -a cult band here- thanks for this song!!!!!!
  1:05am
Michael from the left coast:

Actually the Specials Hurrah show referenced above was broadcast on the late lamented WPIX--not WLIR.
  1:05am
Joe:

I much prefer to D.A.N.C.E.

That girl grew up to be hottttt, though.
  1:05am
randy in NC:

efd, I don't recall

That would be cool to hear though.
  1:06am
efd:

Marcelo, very cool about Stephanie from Manicured Noise - I had no idea! Michael, thanks for the radio station correction.
  1:07am
Michael from the left coast:

Wow Dot Dash
  1:08am
Terre T:

Oh bruthor!!!... Evan Funk ya dint jus say, "Its a whole lotta fun doina singles only show but its also a whole lotta..."
{cue BowWowWow 7" ....} W-O-R-K... !!!!

Also to Matt, i fairly certain 999 is the Bristish version of the American emergency call # 911
  1:08am
dave:

wire: freakin' great then, freakin' great now. is ANYTHING else in the world as consistently totally awesome as wire?
  1:12am
Joe:

tits... no...
kittens... no...
you know what, Dave, you got me.
  1:12am
john:

always a guilty pleasure of mine back in the proverbial day, altered images
  1:13am
efd:

tt, guilty as charged - although i stepped on the vocal, in classic efd fashion
  1:17am
efd:

ok Michael, here's *a* Motor, at least!
  1:18am
efd:

saw him at Hurrah too, btw
  1:23am
efd:

i'm bored.

;)
  1:24am
Joe:

Thats not helping your "I'm not on speed" argument, Davies.
  1:26am
Michael from the left coast:

Indeed a Motor and the best song released by any of them.
I saw Bram perform this at a taping of the Robert Klein Radio show in RCA studios in Times Square in 1981. Klein still talks about this show because the other guest was Rush who were playing Madison Square Garden and who answered all of Klein's questions in the interview segments with one word answers. They were the worst. Made me hate them even more.
  1:30am
joey:

wow, all 7'' 's!! im a bit jealous! i used to have a huge record collection..but in me mid twenties (now in me late 30's) i went thru a mid life crises and sold everything..all my records, books..etc..now that im re-demosticated..i hope to collect all the albums i had and then some (impossible in some cases) oh btw..if any 'noise' enthusiasts out there have records from the band A Band..give me a call...sorry if i was off topic.. =)
  1:33am
Marcelo:

yes, its an incredible 7 inch collection evan!!!! incredible show!
  1:39am
joey:

I wish you would let us download this..this would be the best "mixtape" to give a friend or lover!!...maybe i should learn how to hack?? LOL ..thats it..bye! P.S. i wasnt able to send me last post due to the extremely difficult math question...=(
  1:42am
Joe:

If I ever met a girl I thought I could give a mixtape like this to, I'd marry her.

My girlfriend only listens to musicians she wants to have sex with.
  1:43am
efd:

and those musicians include...?
  1:47am
Joe:

Right now its alot Jack Johnson, and the Kooks. Fiona Apple. She was into Refused and some cool punk in high school, or so she claims.

Though I did get her to start listening to the Muslims, but then again, their lead singer is kind of a cutie pie.
  1:50am
Joe:

Of course, if she runs off with him, I'm going to blame you for turning me on to that Extinction single.
  1:51am
john:

about time someone played the a-side!
  1:52am
John:

You guys know where I can buy these off the interwebs? I don't live in the US
  1:54am
Joe:

Mail me a check and I'll go to the record fair for you. Euros, please.
  1:58am
John:

Very funny Joe! I live in Puerto Rico=American Dollar=as broke as anyone else..
  1:58am
efd:

thanks for staying up late and listening/commenting, everyone! see you at the fair (on Sunday, at least)
  1:58am
john:

"smooth talkin, brainwashin never gonna give me what i need"

Evan, you've outdone yourself, srsly. Great show!
  1:59am
john:

You'd be more broke in Euros or Sterling than the U.S. Peso...
  2:00am
Joe:

Give the man a hand! *applause*

I'm gonna picture you collapsing and someone throwing a cloak over you, Elvis style.

Go ice your fingers down or something. Great show!
  2:17pm
laura:

Hey, if comments are welcome even after the show, I would just like to say I can't stay up late enough to listen live but DAMMIT I USED TO BE ABLE TO and this particular show takes me right back. In fact efd's is my favorite oldies program.

Ouch.

And had I actually been awake last night I would have requested A Blind Dog Stares, which I distinctly remember the youthful efd playing on WNYU in the 17th or 18th century, if memory serves.
  1:59pm
lou demonte:

wow!!! Bill Nelson, I thought I'd never hear him on the radio. Now how about a little Red Noise please...
thanx
