A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Invaded Cambodia without telling anyone.....prolonged the war so he could end it in time for it to be used for his re election, Created a White House Enemies List that included normal law abiding citizens ( who disagreed with him ). Nixon should have gone to jail. And Bush will pre pardon all his cronies before leaving office Both administrations are criminal
But let's celebrate the new dawn

As for John Peel and Wyatt. That sounds great. Have you guys heard the story about how Billy Bragg got his "big break" by bringing Peel a sandwich or something? I love stories like those.

Here it is:
Hearing DJ John Peel mention on-air that he was hungry, Bragg rushed to the BBC with a mushroom biryani, so Peel played a song from Life's a Riot, although at the wrong speed (since the 12" LP was, unconventionally, cut to play at 45rpm).[8] Peel insisted he would have played the song even without the biryani, and he later played it at the correct speed.
It wasn't a sandwich, it was a biryani.
....and thank you for that dedication, Trouble.

You charaterization of the Lillie Ledbedder act was not quite accurate. Perhaps a lawyer or labor activist responded earlier, but gender-based pay discrimination is already illegal. The LL act is to overturn a procedural ruling of the Bush Supreme Court which says that the time limit for filing legal action claiming gender pay discrimination (I think it is two years, but I'm not sure) is from the time the pay discrimination started. Usually, pay violations are considered a continuing violation that recurs with every pay check. So when LL filed her original suit, she could go retroactive for two years from the date she filed the suit. In her case, since she did not discover that she was being discriminated against for more than the time limit in the law after the discrimination began, the Court threw out her suit.
The act, if passed by Congress, will re-affirm that pay discrimination is a contiuing violation.
Apologies for the typos and the delay in commenting. I'm trying to get out of the house and everyone knows how difficult that can be.
BTW, I find it amusing and interesting coincidental that GWB's last day in office in the national holiday for MLK's birthday. You can be sure that GWB's birthday will never be a national holiday.

The guy asked you to think about every bit of plastic you've ever seen in your lifetime (they showed images of coffee cups and hair dryers and bad old computers and phones and 60's chairs...)
They then told us that every bit of that plastic is still here on earth.
Then they said that plastic is looking more like food and food is looking more like plastic. It was fascinating to see how little pellets of plastic looks like plankton and the fish eat it, and there are islands the size of england in the ocean, made of discarded plastic.
Very sobering dcc.
Annie, more power to you and your movement.

Toronto has a pretty green Mayor. Our compost gets picked up at our houses every week and the curbside recycling program is super advanced.
Now there is a new bylaw that all stores have to charge extra for plastic bags. It all helps.
When I go to visit my friends in Michigan and see no mandated recycle programs I find it surprising and kind of retro. "Oh, look a No Smoking section in the family restaurant".
Yergh but it is soooooo cold here today. A million below zero, at least.
