Listener comments!

marcus:

hi, i know that tune right now (ennio morricone) - but from the silver apples "the lady and the clown" :) - cheers from germany.
  3:11am
jj.:

Ooh, the Silver Apples cover that? Will have to check it out...
  3:31am
Joshua K:

Ahh thats a good book.
  3:33am
jj.:

Yeah, Murakami's one of my faves. He's got a new, huge one coming out this year. I'm way psyched: http://tinyurl.com/cv6zgv
  3:39am
Joshua K:

Ahh thanks, I have read The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, Sputnik Sweetheart, and Kafka on the Shore and liked all 3. Guess it might be a while till that one gets translated.
  3:41am
bryan:

Hard-Boiled Wonderland & The End of the World was really good at wintertime
  3:42am
Evan:

this is trippy. I'm very much digging it.
  3:42am
bryan:

though what worthwhile book isn't good at wintertime?
  3:45am
jj.:

He's got a big enough audience in the US that I bet it'll get translated pretty quickly. Sometimes his novels get a little samey (similar characters/themes/references), but they're all really enjoyable. I'd suggest "Wild Sheep Chase" next.
  3:48am
Joshua K:

Theres a BBC documentary about him that he doesn't appear in because he doesn't do interviews but its still pretty good: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1376275/
  3:49am
bryan:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/08/books/review/Murakami-t.html?fta=y

I really liked this article about him
  3:49am
bryan:

by him*

talks about seeing art blakey and stuff. neat guy.
  3:51am
jj.:

He does do interviews occasionally. I interviewed him by email a few years ago (when "After Dark" came out; not online, alas). He does do face-to-face interviews, too. But, yeah, never seen a filmed interview with him. Still, sounds worth seeing.
  3:55am
Joshua K:

I should have posted the bbc page, imdb doesn't say much:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/imagine/episode/haruki_murakami.shtml
They interviewed him but off camera. They visit some of the places that inspired his books and interview other people on camera about his work.
  4:01am
bryan:

that was really engrossing. you just prevented me from studying for the whole length of that reading.
  4:02am
Evan:

emeralds. so great. solar bridge was one of last year's best.
  4:03am
jj.:

Glad it worked, at least like that. Rest of the show should be more studyable.
  4:03am
jj.:

Just heard Emeralds for the first time last night (great, great show at Glasslands). Pretty taken. I'm in.
  4:05am
Evan:

have you ever played bob l. sturm on your show? i think it would fit perfectly alongside some of these pieces.
  4:11am
jj.:

No, I haven't. Thx for the suggestion. Will check out.
  5:20am
bryan:

ooh, glad to hear this. haven't heard this cassette yet.
  5:24am
bryan:

oh, seems to be a split LP from what i can find. love sun araw's album art aesthetic. even the layout of the news update on their label's site is sick.
  5:26am
jj.:

So it is. ;).
  5:58am
bryan:

it was fun.
