Now we're talking. I stumbled across "The Diverse Yusef Lateef" when I was about 10, and it changed my whole outlook on life.

My favorite 8-track was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass's Greatest Hits.

Carmichael, I had a similar experience at around 12-13 when I bumped into "The Blue Yusef Lateef" - messed with my adolescent mind.

My parents had every Tijuana Brass album, as well as some Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 and The Baja Marimba Band. I don't know how I could have come across Lateef. It was probably one of my sisters' boyfriends.

I was laughing to myself yesterday because Scott played some tune and it was alittle wobbly. Seemed the matches were out of the 8-track for some other worthwhile mission for a while.

I still have an 8-track of "Around the World with 3 Dog Night." I remember the *clunk* sound when it changed channels. I was never smart enough to use a mtchbook. We used to grab the tape and shove it around in the player until it would play.

No, I had the clunk, too. We got "7 Separate Fools" on 8-track. Now that I think about it, I belive Randy Newman wrote half the songs on that, and Harry Nilsson the other.

That's what I mean, Duncan. These songs are so old and were sung differently in each region. By the time everyone met up in NY or Boston, they melded them together. Now it seems like there are 20 versions of every old Gaelic song. Confusing.

Gumby Juniors 1 & 2 are into death metal, or scream metal or something or other now and it cracks me up. They walk around the house singing(?) this obnoxious hollerin' stuff. It cracks me up and harkens me back to my "ME 262 is a German jet" stuff when BOC was presenting me with an audio version (sort of) of WWII. Very funny times in gumbyland.

I've been wondering if BOC is still worth seeing. I've always loved their multi-pronged guitar attack, and saw them as Sof White Underbelly many eons ago.
