Mornin' "all".
  9:55am
annie:

cecile, you'll get a kick out of this: Isa has been put in her crate each night when it's "time for bed" and she has been pretty good about it overall. well last night i was out for dinner and put her there to prevent her from tearing the house apart. i got back and she had removed herself and greeted me joyfully. well, when it was "time for bed" i went in and left her cage door open so she could climb in like she usually does. hehe.. she refused, so i just let her be. ten minutes later she went in; i left the door open.. she stayed in there all night! with the door open! hehe
  9:57am
dc pat:

OH GOD, NO! Not ROBOT scientists!!
  9:57am
Cecile:

Aw, bw, I'm sorry.
There was some food there that made me cry, so delicious.

My birthday; was yesterday. I had a nice weekend, Saturday was dinner at the 112 (best place in Minneapolis for my budget), a show by Demetri Martin. Sunday was UP and my new favorite pizza in town - Black Sheep. They use a coal oven. Nom.

thank you for the wonderful wishes!

Annie, heh, your Isa cracks me up! She's a good girl...evenutually.

Space already seems to have a huge puckered cleft/scar from sternum to scrotal zone. Diana seems to have been Tased to a physically rapturous surrender.
  9:59am

AAP, if you put "wistfully" at the end, it makes it even more funnier.
  10:01am
AnAnonymousParty:

"Space" has been on the bad end of far too many anal probe attempts by aliens with limited understanding of human physiology for that, Cecile.
  10:02am
annie:

they look like they're waiting for a bus, not getting ready to probe space.
  10:03am
"Joe" Steele:

Dianna doesn't seem to be restrained in any manner.
  10:04am
Cecile:

Yes, they haven't been gentle with him.
Perhaps Carol Queen needs to go into space.

heh. and that too.
  10:04am
"Space":

If I had a nickel for every time I've said, "Uh, that's not my anus" . . .
  10:06am
"Joe" Steele:

You always say, "Turn her into a leopard woman." Dr. Roboto, how about some creativity?
  10:10am
bw:

joe I am rocking out on the joe steele awesome studio A CD rack - what do youwant to know about fletcher hanks?
  10:13am

Holy crap a CD Rack shout out.

I'm actually just curious when the new black Stardust T-shirst are gonna be available.

Dave Doom:

Hi Ben. This is Dave Lockgroove and Compass and Boston. Ben, I stopped listening to music about 6 years ago. I played sax in an afrobeat band in Montreal for a while, but didn't listen to music much. I stopped collecting and have this little faux-antique record player that I was going to give to a girlfriend, but she bought a cooler 80s record player first, so I kept it [we broke up shortly afterwards].

So I'm in NYC for many years and have this little record player and 4 records (one T Rex and a few classical) and sort of stopped listening to music. Occassionally I bought a few CDs from the Desi taxi eatery joint on Houston and 1st-ish, which were good.

So, I just moved to brooklyn. Have a nice flat with my girlfriend, and decided to flip on the radio to keep me company while I unloaded the dish washer. I assumed I'd listen to sports talk radio (always a mainstay for me) but actually that benny goodman orgy thing was still going on, didn't want to hear that, and rather than flip to AM I thought wtf I'd scroll up the dial.

I stopped when I heard the smog (I'm of course irate at this "Bill Callahan" bull as if his parents were better than he at naming him. I remember I had the weirdest encounter with him at the middle east one night, that's another story though) backing tracks before his voice came on.

Anyhow, I sort of sighed in my head hearing the drums nad horns and was like, yeah, I guess I should listen to this.

Then his voice came on, effectless and such.

I listened to the track. Expecting it to be an anomoly I was curious what would come next, coudl it possibly be something I liked as much?

Then you came on, a familiar voice flooding back old memories. It was such a treat to hear Ben Walker on my radio again, didn't realize you had moved to NYC from Boston etc. etc. The thrill of listening ot live radio broadcast by a DJ who's taste you "trust" is something I had been missing.

So I'm listening and its a treat to have you back dj-ing. I just placed my speakers in stereo in the new apt and its being effectively baptized by your set this le morning!

Very exciting.

Thanks again for 5 formative years introducing me to music in Boston and its good to hear our tastes still align.

What a surprising pleasure.

hhmmm dianna seems to have lost her leggings along the way... hmmmm
  10:22am
bw:

hi DAve Doom

good story!
  10:22am
"Joe" Steele:

Mainly about Fletcher Hanks and question would be "What is your malfuncation?" but I think that's answered in one of the books.
  10:23am

That's not a continuity slip. That's target-audience titillation.

Sure, punch the metal guy in the face, that'll totally hurt him more than you.
  10:39am

Joe, the deal seems to be that the belt is a bad thing if your arms are tied, because they can shuttle you around with it, but if you can get your arms free, you can use it to your advantage.

Mr. Karasik, ya gots to make some nice-sized reproductions of best, most classic and craziest Hanks panels for our walls. This crew here, I'm guessing, would be glad to vote for favorites.

Cecile:

Yeah, get them printed on canvas...

1. I don't think that there are any primo collections of Flash Gordon, but there was a recent classy book of Alex Raymond's work that surely included some Flash Gordon work.

2. Even robots must suffer.

3. b/p: what walls are we talkin' about here? I would be happy to supply you with scans of primo Hanks panels.

4. The head shot comes from a comic book called "the Big Three" and appears in Volume 1: "I Shall Destroy all the Civilized Planets!"

thanks, Paul.
Then those facsimiles my friend had must be worth a ton now. It was back in the early 80s. I will look out for that new book.

Annie, re 11:36, I was just thinking the same thing; how convenient that they're suddenly "clumsy". But let's keep in mind that the same logic pervades multi-million-dollar summer blockbusters in the movies.

Jus' my apartment walls.

Getting scans would be great. I'll go back and review the strips we've seen here recently to make a request or two via your website. Thanks. Some images and dialogue are too perfect or awful or whacked, sometimes all at once, to pass up.

Damn, missed Mr. Karasik. It's off to the archives for me.

Really loved the Newgarden+Karasik essay on Nancy (www.tomhart.net/teaching/handouts/howToReadNancy.pdf).

Any chance of getting Mark Newgarden on WFMU some time?
