That period wasnt really "pre-war" in Japan since they invaded china in '37.
It does sound very western, I don't know anything really about Japenese society during the war but I cant imagine the western influence going well with the all the nationalism.

Amanda and her brother along with various other kids made a bunch of tape recordings some years ago. Now they have been found and are provided by Irwin for our listening pleasure...In fact he has a live interview with the current version of Amanda ( now like 30 years old) coming soon..stay tuned....and oh yea...see the links LD posted above.
