Spotted the FMU brigade seated under a tent at the Burmese Water Festival on the Lower East Side this afternoon. Bryce's hairdo is hard to mistake. Was with companions or I'd have considered poking them in person...

I loved the "Men's Choir" song. But which particular Men's Choir, again? I've been hearing some fun stuff recently fron the Seattle Men's Chorus (and their subset[?], Captain Smartypants).
Also: yay, bubbles. They make me festive.

tonite's show has been very enjoyable.thank you.
Jeff M:
Perrier Jouet Grand Brut (a long personal favorite, which I expected to come in first): kind of malty, almost beer-like, complex and interesting but maybe a distraction from a time of festivity: 2nd
Pol Roger, another reliable go-to Champagne: nice, held together well, but on the verge of being cloyingly sweet: 3rd.
Nicholas Feuillatte, which we'd enjoyed the once we'd had it by itself: kind of dirty and incoherent. 4th.
Piper Sonoma Brut, a California wannabe we snuck in to see if we could get away with something at 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the others: A little sour, not particularly complex or coherent -- I continue to consider it an excellent Mimosa bubbly. 5th
Louis Roederer Brut Premier: Yummy. Subtly complex, notes of vanilla, perhaps backed by a bit of pear. A coherent (even though complex) oneness of flavor, and all with a lighter overall aesthetic which is consistent with being enjoyable in its own right, but not necessarily distracting from a festive occasion. Never had it before, just grabbed a bottle based on some in-store blurbs (and, yeah, these guys do make Cristal).. Delightful. 1st.

Thanks.

a) Dave Van Ronk's name alway reminds me of those Alligator Records catalogs I never paid enough attention to.
b) Have you ever heard the version by Redbird?
