Listener comments!

  11:05pm
G:

you didn't need to call EMS to get access to the studio, we hope!
  11:07pm
john:

So this is what Queen would have sounded like without those asinine "No Synthesizers" notices on the back of the sleeve...better!
  11:20pm
efd:

hi everyone! or hi john and G, at least!

john, good point re Aviary vs Queen!
  11:24pm
Brendan:

All rock no talk tonight Evan?
  11:24pm
Greg from Detroit:

I love hearing Game Theory on the Evan "Funk" Davies show.
  11:25pm
dustin:

is this Game Theory song a response to Tom's comment or just a coincidence?
  11:27pm
efd:

There's no such thing as coincidence.
  11:30pm
Sybil:

I just got home... and Evan's Theme was on! Yay!!!
  11:31pm
Sybil:

Uh-oh, looks like I missed a whole story... EMS?
  11:33pm
G:

Tom more or less lost the will to live and offered to let efd start 25 minutes early -- hopefully the suicie hotline wasn't dragged in
  11:34pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

The only thing snooty about Varese Sarabande is their name (I have to stick up for my friend Cary Mansfield and company here).
  11:41pm
efd:

fair enough, Michael! I guess I was also automatically (and unfairly) putting all soundtracks in the "snooty" category.

hi Sybil!
  11:41pm
Sybil:

I should know better than to be away from a radio or internet connection at any time, even for a minute, on Tuesdays!
  11:43pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--the soundtracks aren't all that they do. Lots of good compilations (my favorite--Tony Burrows, who was the lead singer of Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, the Brotherhood of Man, First Class and the Pipkins all British one hit wonders). They did a great early Warren Zevon album too among many great things
  11:49pm
efd:

huh, i had no idea! clearly i made an incorrect snap judgement - thanks for the info!

on a different topic, what the heck is happening in the Red Sox game??
  11:50pm
Sybil:

Red Sox may have to do the equivalent of letting Mark Loretta pitch if this game goes on much longer... 2-2, bottom 12th.
  11:51pm
john:

In other words, absolutely nothing!
  11:54pm
Sybil:

Manny HR in LA
  11:58pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Consider it endorsed!
  12:02am
hipsters:

no, you're right. 1:30 is way too fucking early, man.
  12:02am
Laurie:

This one time, Andrew W.K. linked to an ONTD entry via his twitter. And I got hella embarrassed, because I made some obscene comments as is my wont on ONTD.
  12:05am
Hideous Lump:

The Mitch Easter version of "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" is available on the bubblegum tribute comp "Right to Chews."

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3ifexqrald0e
  12:07am
Sybil:

Evan Longoria HR bottom 13th. That's all she wrote.
  12:09am
efd:

dammit, this is no time for Evans In The News!

H. Lump, thanks for the tip on that comp! I have a feeling that version would sound very different from the one I saw but I'm curious to check it out.
  12:10am
john:

That comp is great. I'd dig it out if I could ever find anything here. I tried arranging all the CDs by height, apparently.
  12:12am
efd:

ha!
  12:13am
@BunnyKickButt:

Hello efd. PFT tweeted about you so I thought I'd check you out.
  12:15am
BunnyKickButt:

I had to do MATH to post. I'm sweating.
  12:15am
Danne D:

Hello EFD and all you funky folks :)
Welcome aboard Bunny- you'll love Evan's show!
Evan did you happen to see my e-mail?
  12:16am
Math:

I'm tough. Deal.
  12:16am
Sybil:

It's not MATH, it's frackin' arithmetic. Trust me, not the same at all. If it were Math, I could do it. Grr.
  12:16am
efd:

Thanks for stopping by, @BunnyKickButt! hope I can live up to the expectations set by a @PFTompkins tweet!
  12:16am
georgie:

one of my favorite PIL trax!!
  12:17am
BunnyKickButt:

Me too, efd! :)
  12:18am
risky!:

yo PiL! Funk GET IT! GO N GET EM!!!!

R I S K Y_______________________
  12:19am
BunnyKickButt:

efd, have you ever heard of Daniel Amos?
  12:19am
Math:

631 + 4 + ???????

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12:21am
BunnyKickButt:

Math is taunting me.
  12:22am
efd:

Danne, I did get your email and will get back to you on that tomorrow.

BunnyKickButt, I have not, unless by chance you're referring to Danny Amis of Raybeats/Los Straitjackets fame, bur you're probably not.

Georgie and risky, glad you're enjoying the PiL!
  12:22am
Sybil:

It's not Math. I knew Math. Math was a friend of mine. You, sir, are no Math.
  12:23am
Math:

I'm not a bad egg in the long run. If you like runny eggs.
  12:25am
efd:

guess what I found in the library...
  12:26am
hmm...:

a perv in the stacks?
  12:26am
randy in NC:

Anyone else having issues with the 128K MP3 stream?
  12:28am
Danne D:

Thanks Evan :) Hopefully we can spread some good cheer.

Interested by the reaction to FMU's underground Math Operation :)

As to what you found, EFD, I dunno, but I found Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ssR7M5Px0
which I last saw in high school. Basically the one thing I got out of it was learning how to play angles on a pool table.
  12:28am
Sybil:

My 128K stream is fine, which is amazing given I'm also watching mlb.tv and have this live comments thing running.
  12:30am
Sybil:

That pool table thing - that's Math.
  12:31am
expectant:

No one's gonna ask what the bed music is??? That's ok, a week off would work too!
  12:32am
Sybil:

We can't ask. Joe's not here.
  12:33am
Math:

For years I earned my living as a pool hustler
  12:33am
Danne D:

Yup, Sybil. Though Geometry is the math that I basically sucked at. Actually have a baseball story to go with it. My 9th Grade Geometry teacher was the wife of former major league manager Jim Fregosi.
  12:35am
Sybil:

That is very cool, Danne.
  12:37am
Chuck E. Jesus:

can't believe i missed Pil, but i enjoyed the Mitch Easter....
  12:37am
randy in NC:

MP3 now OK, but missed the Mitch Easter to compare with Saturday. Archives...
  12:38am
efd:

Randy, that's too bad - I was hoping you could provide a second opinion!
  12:39am
Danne D:

Ya, though our honors geometry class was pretty unruly actually. I tend to think I'm the least hipsterish FMU listener given that my degree is in *ulp* statistics of all things. I'm also a recovering actuary.

To Bunny: so do you know from the, like 10 years of archives here on FMU? If you like this edition of Evan's show you can commence worshiping him 24/7 via the magic of archives :) Evan is one of FMU's humbler deities I might add :)
  12:40am
BunnyKickButt:

efd, have a listen to Daniel Amos at the itunes store. Pick a song you would like to play and I'll mail you a dollar.
  12:41am
BunnyKickButt:

Must say I'm really enjoying the show and will have my fill of neato music.
  12:41am
Sybil:

BunnyKickButt shows up here and already she's (he's?) trying to bribe the host..
  12:42am
BunnyKickButt:

teehee
  12:43am
Danne D:

LOL, some catch on quicker than others I guess Sybil :o)
  12:43am
Danne D:

too bad EFD is uncorruptable :)
  12:44am
BunnyKickButt:

Is a dollar the going rate?
  12:44am
BunnyKickButt:

It's funny, but we all want people to love the music we love.
  12:45am
efd:

that sounds an awful lot like payola to me! On a small scale, granted, but still...!
  12:45am
A Principle:

No one is utterly incorruptible.

Ratchet up the amount till you get your way.
  12:46am
BunnyKickButt:

Just reimbursing the cost of the song. heheh
  12:46am
Math:

99 cents then
  12:47am
Sybil:

You can't fool me. You're not Math, you're Accounting.
  12:47am
BunnyKickButt:

99 pennies coming your way efd
  12:48am
BunnyKickButt:

This math thing is coming back to me. Like riding a bike.
  12:48am
Math:

I do GAAP as a sideline.
  12:49am
Danne D:

Hmm, though maybe Evan can be corrupted by cookies. As long as he eats the evidence and doesn't leave a trail of crumbs he should be good.
  12:50am
Sybil:

Just stay away from the Wall Street stuff. Frackin' Quants gave us all a bad name.
  12:50am
john:

Great show tonight! p<.0001.
  12:51am
john:

And as a twice-recovering Wall Streeter, let me just say that quants gave the rest of US a bad name.
  12:51am
Sybil:

That's very significant.
  12:53am
john:

I'm very confident.
  12:55am
Math:

Quants are my evil twin. Just like 999 upside down becomes 666.
  1:02am
Georgie:

I, just like efd, can't seem to get enough of this Bare Wires 7".
  1:03am
efd:

Sybil, here's another one for the "not *that* [song title]" show. I'm starting to think maybe that should be my 2010 marathon premium theme.
  1:05am
Sybil:

I was actually surprised when "gimme gimme good lovin" WAS "that" song. I'm beginning to expect otherwise.
  1:06am
efd:

Georgie, glad I'm not the only one!
  1:06am
Danne D:

That sounds like an excellent idea Evan :)
  1:10am
G:

Could it be that I haven't heard this since aboiut 1974???
  1:12am
efd:

G, that's very possible.
  1:13am
Sybil:

G, only if you're not a long-time listener to efd's show. Or Monica.
  1:13am
G:

They were playing it on La Difusora radio in Brasil when I moved there from England... That's how I guessed the year before you even posted it...
  1:14am
Sybil:

(Just guessing about Monica, but I'm 99% confident about efd.)
  1:23am
john:

I was hoping this new TVPs single would turn up somewhere. Brilliant as ever!
  1:25am
Joshua K:

I am late to the party.
  1:25am
Sybil:

I can't believe I didn't choose this as one of my premiums. :(
  1:26am
efd:

there might be half a slice of cake left...
  1:27am
Sybil:

Not that I'm unhappy with my other choices, that is!
  1:33am
johnny rivers:

secret agent man, secret agent man!
  1:37am
G:

I bet that's Guimaraes -- it's a common name in Portuguese...
  1:38am
BunnyKickButt:

Goodnight good people. Thanks for the tunes, efd. I'll visit another night. I will now do my last bit of math for the evening.
  1:39am
Math:

tx for being so submissive :-P
  1:43am
blancofunk:

thanks fer the heads up on the black rio-2 release.
  1:44am
efd:

goodnight BKB - thanks for stopping by!
  1:44am
G:

btw, "e o grupo som sagrado" = "and the sacred sound group" -- i thought it might be obvious, but maybe not...
  1:44am
john:

I heartily endorse the endorsement. There is at present an ex-shelter cat under the covers and a rescue dog under the bed. Sadly, that means I'm relegated to a far corner of the room, but the pets are happy. Except regarding the presence of the other. Welcome to Growl And Hiss Central.
  1:46am
risky!:

THE SPITS! GET EM FUNK! FUCKIN GET THEEEM!!!

  1:48am
efd:

nice, John,

G, thanks - I got "sagrado" thanks to my recent Barcelona trip, but not the rest of it.
  1:49am
Sybil:

Thanks for verifying my suspicion, G.

BTW I saw a horror flick from Spain, English title "The Nameless", and it turned out to be in Catalan. I was very pleased with myself for figuring that out. Didn't help much with understanding what they were saying, though.
  1:52am
G:

Spain's cool -- haven't been there since 92 -- every region's different...
  1:58am
Danne D:

Goodnight good people! :)

EFD, thanks for another excellent show!
  1:59am
Sybil:

Goodnight, Danne! I agree totally!
  12:14am
Joe:

checking out the show now... that billion dollar babies single might be my most favorite cover art in recent memory
