  10:06am
Scott:

And Roswell Rudd and Henry Grimes. Talk about a band!
  10:10am
Cecile:

I saw Lacy with Rudd a while back. What a contrast in styles, and what good friends!
  10:12am
BSI:

ashamed to admit I'm late in discovering Lacy, but found the LP he did with Don Cherry, & it's a mighty fine thing.
  10:12am
eric / goner:

Great set... dub to echo to bop boogie! loving it!
  10:17am
Cecile:

this is astonishing. It's like Gang of Four playing Norwegian jazz. Who's the guitarist?
  10:19am
Scott:

Amazing, right? Terje Rypdal, total shred.
  10:20am
Cecile:

WOW. I thought it might be him, but then went, nah. Good on ya, Terje!
  10:26am
jess:

dc pat:

I like Brilliant Corners--I mean Colors
  10:57am
jess:

What's that playing under the back-announce?
  10:59am
AL3X:

I love fill-ins, I always find new DJs to listen to. I second Jess's request as to the bed music, and the one you played on the last mic break, sounded kind of like ISAN.
  11:05am
Scott:

It's aphex twin "nannou" from the Windowlicker single.
  11:07am
erika:

<3 this song
  11:07am
dc pat:

I don't see anything wrong with these here Brilliant Colors.
  11:20am
doug from DC:

I just looked up that Steve Lehman album, and he talks about his interest in spectralism (including working with Tristan Murail at Columbia U), and ties Gratchan Moncur III's Evolution album into this. It's all really impressive, I'm getting a copy.
  11:22am
Hugo:

Yeah, that Plastic Strip label is doing good digging into the archives and releasing 70s stuff. "Pale" is actually a fish and "vise" is a song. I have to look it up to find what "pale" is in English (or I could be totally mistaken, you never know).

http://www.plasticstrip.no/Black%20is%20the%20color.html

The pic on the cd cover in the link is taken from the Kongsberg jazz festival in the early 70s, pairing a visiting american jazz player with some ... err ... locals.

Terje is doing fine. I saw his latest piece, being performed at the local jazz festival this summer. Well over an hour in length (with his regular band plus the Bergen Big Band), most of it was aired on public radio. But the buggers managed to cut it off after less than an hour. The straitjacket of programming, eh?
  11:24am
Cecile:

Hugo, thanks for the update!
Dang, after all this, pulling the plug on Terje! Bastards.
  11:25am
Chris:

Have to hear more of Terje, all I'm really familiar with is one old ECM trio recording the name of which escapes me.

Killer show BTW.
  11:28am
Scott:

If you can find track it down, Terje plays with the Art Ensemble on the Baden Baden Free Jazz Orchestra album. A personal fave.
  11:29am
dragonflyshards:

Hello Scott! Great to hear ya again ('listened last week, but wasn't near a computer) -One of my favorite DJs filling for one of my favorite DJs... 'Gotta tell you ALORS!!! is my favorite DJ premium yet...(no offense to Doug,or"Children of the Corn"-interesting!)..wish i understood more French,though....Thanks!
  11:29am
doug from DC:

That album Eos that Rypdal did with cellist David Darling is an old favorite, and I like his work on Mantler's Hapless Child album. I have the first Rypdal album, it was very much under the influence of Miles' early electric albums.
  11:32am
Cheri Pi:

Does anyone know if the upcominig Rhys Chatham event A Crimson Grail will be webcast anywhere?
  11:34am
doug from DC:

I went up to NYC to see A Crimson Grail last year, when it got rained out. Now a friend wants me to drive up for the re-sched tomorrow. It isn't going to rain again, is it?
  11:35am
Chris:

Only if you go, Doug.
  11:42am
Hugo:

I have the Baden-Baden Free Jazz Meeting album which quite rightly has the Art Ensemble with many of the European free jazz players at the time (late 69), including Terje Rypdal.

"Alors" was a fine album by Michel Portal with the John Surman trio. I do have that one, too. Absolutely recommended!

By the way, "pale" is coalfish or possibly pollock. Does that make sense to you English speakers? Pale is a smaller type of coalfish (which can be quite large).
  11:44am
Scott:

Indeed, Hugo, my DJ premium from last year was named after that Portal album!
  11:49am
Hugo:

Scott, a proof of your impeccable taste!
  11:55am
dragonflyshards:

...i was actually referring to Scott's premium CD, Hugo- (which has Michel P. on it)-and was ignorant of Michel's album, but Thank you...and now i'm sure i should check that out !
  12:05pm
angrysaturday:

Nice to have you back, sir. I hope we can look forward to your program returning to the schedule sometime soon.
