Listener comments!

  11:06pm
Danne D:

Yay it's funk time!
  11:08pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

How 'bout Dutch rock for $200--some Gruppo Sportivo perhaps?
  11:16pm
efd:

Michael, not a bad suggestion but not feasible at the moment. Maybe some "beep beep love" will come your way next week.

Hi, Danne!
  11:19pm
E.L.:

Very excited to be listening in live from the beginning tonight.
  11:19pm
Laurie:

You're obviously going to play "Get Metsmerized, y/y??
  11:21pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

One listen to Timmy Thomas records dispels the notion that drum machines aren't funky
  11:22pm
Danne D:

Yeah things are getting wacky. Last week we had Ted Leo on Evan's show and this week we have baseball talk on Tom's show!
  11:23pm
Amanda:

What's up, dudes. Was just Gchatting with a friend and we agreed how great this set was... sorry I ever betrayed the playlist for Gmail, though. E.L., I'm glad you made it too, since I need to go to bed soon!
  11:25pm
Danne D:

Hiya Amanda :) Hello other Funk Friends as well!
  11:28pm
john:

Hey everyone....great opening set, Evan! But gosh, baseball talk earlier? Almost enough to make me listen.
  11:28pm
deaconlight:

who man, who did that song originally. It wasn't April Wine.. uh...
  11:29pm
Danne D:

Aw man, homework! :(
  11:30pm
Danne D:

(sad reality: Danne D actually working from home right now while he listens)
  11:31pm
deaconlight:

Yeah it was April Wine.1971 - So April Wine covered the Hot Chocolate song? dang, I never knew that.
  11:31pm
Amanda:

I love that April Wine version AND I OWN THE 45 so I'm wondering if I can get extra credit.
  11:32pm
Danne D:

Amanda, ever the teacher's pet. *kicks rock*
  11:32pm
E.L.:

Thanks, teach!

Hey Amanda. Can't wait to chat! <-- Everything went great!
  11:33pm
deaconlight:

Man I always called him Herman BROOOD. I have two of his albums on vinyl. The things we learn listening to Evan!!!
  11:34pm
deaconlight:

yeah per Mike form Left Coast how about some Gruppo Sportivo! http://deaconlight.com/music/records/1979/grupposportivo_mistakes.html
  11:35pm
Amanda:

"Brood" in Dutch means "Bread." That I know for sure, though I can't always roll my R the right way, and I see little connection between Herman Brood and the band Bread.

E.L.!!!! Tell everyone what happened! Will you??? Please???
  11:36pm
Danne D:

I'm like the D-minus student in the Funkiversity hoping I don't flunk out <<<<<<:(
  11:37pm
Amanda:

Perhaps you will FUNK out
  11:37pm
E.L.:

Me = Married.

I'm sorting photos while listening to this sweet R. Pollard track.

Yay!
  11:38pm
Sybil:

Mazal tov, E.L.!

I'm sick :(
  11:39pm
Danne D:

lol Amanda :)

Congrats E.L.!

Hope you feel better soon Sybil :( :( :(
  11:40pm
Sybil:

One reason to love Herman Brood: he named his band after a Mose Allison song.

Thanks for the wishes, Danne. I'm going to go collapse on my bed again.
  11:41pm
efd:

E.L., congratulations!!

actually, pretty much ditto to what Danne just posted.
  11:41pm
E.L.:

Sybil,

Thank you AND I'm sorry. I'm hoping knowledge of my wedding has not caused this condition. Like a gag reflex. I'm sure that's not what you meant.
  11:43pm
Amanda:

Million billion gazillion congrats to E.L. and Ann yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy. I hope you let us know which EFD-inspired songs you played at your reception.

Sybil, feel better! There is a nasty summer cold going around, looks like you gots it.
  11:43pm
Sybil:

Not at all, E.L.... I just wouldn't work up the energy to post two separate comments.

Goldurned arithmetic.
  11:45pm
Danne D:

Sybil needs some soul stew, that oughta make her feel better :)
  11:45pm
E.L.:

Summer colds are the worst colds. Hang in there! We all feel for you.
  11:49pm
Sybil:

Thanks, all. And thanks to efd for "music to gargle salt water by"!
  11:54pm
kateandshake:

Oh darn, I fell asleep. I had a question for Patton Oswalt.
  11:55pm
DJ Terre T:

Heya Evs, thanx fer mentioning the IMPEDIMENTS and BUZZER live sets on my show this coming Saturday! It should be soooo good and i'm psyched!
Also AWESOME show so far tonite!
  11:55pm
batgpenetar:

There's a bloke watching TV, and he hears a knock at the door. When he answers, there's no one to be seen! Just as he's about to close the door, he hears a small voice say "Excuse me sir, could I interest you in a set of encyclopaedias?" He looks down and sees a snail on his doorstep. Angered at being dragged away from the NSW v Qld State of Origin Match on the tube by a snail selling encyclopaedias, he kicks the poor snail off his front steps and into the garden, before returning inside. Six months later, there's a knock at the door. When he answers, there's no one there again. He looks down and sees the snail, who asks "What did you do that for?"
  11:56pm
Danne D:

Woohoo Hiya Terre T!
  11:58pm
Amanda:

That is probably the best snail joke. All the elephant jokes I can think of are WAY too blue for this crowd.
  12:00am
efd:

never gets old, batgpenetar.

TT, you're welcome!

kateandshake, I'm afraid Patton's helicopter picked him up some time ago.
  12:00am
Terre T:

Word Up Danne D!!
  12:00am
E.L.:

I've always liked duck jokes. I guess we all have our comedy spirit animal.
  12:00am
Danne D:

Yeah you got impressionable youngin's like me here!

E.L. - Got any grapes?
  12:02am
E.L.:

Danne D,

Seriously: DO I KNOW YOU?
  12:03am
Danne D:

Nopers, I don't think you know me. I was just alluding to the one duck joke I know...
  12:06am
Laurie:

It's not Evans in the News?
  12:07am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Damn you Deaconlight--pointing me to that page about 1979 albums--now I'll be looking at that all night!
  12:07am
E.L.:

That joke and I have a long history— a long, boring history.
  12:08am
Terre T:

How the hell does Evan do all this (DJ, Acu-playlist, tix and gig announcemnts) without an Ass Prod*?

*Thats ASSociate PRODucer, ya pervs
  12:12am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--what label released this Felix record?
  12:12am
Danne D:

Evan is Multi-Funktional :)
  12:14am
Joshua K:

I came here to dance?
  12:14am
Amanda:

All will be revealed on the playlist soon enuff.
  12:15am
E.L.:

Actually, DJ Terre T, until I read the final sentence of your post I thought Ass Prod = Ipod. So I guess I'm sort of proud to be stupid and not a perv. Yay.
  12:17am
Kelly:

ass prod...iPod, all the same kinda
  12:17am
Danne D:

Haven't you heard, E.L.? That's the latest app available for the I-phone...
  12:18am
Amanda:

But E.L., you're a cartoonist! You must be the perviest of all of us! <--Callback to a joke from like a year ago
  12:18am
The Numero Group:

Hi Evan, glad you are digging the Pisces record. Thanks for the support!
  12:23am
E.L.:

Amanda, all I can do is try. Until Larry opens his perv college, I'm out of luck.
  12:23am
efd:

my pleasure, Numero Group! Nice to have you here.

Laurie, thanks for the Evans In The News reference.
  12:26am
Danne D:

I'd probably have better grades at the Perviversity than at the Funkiversity, sadly.
  12:26am
Danne D:

Rowland Evans' old partner Bob Novak died today. That's sorta tangential Evans in the News.
  12:27am
efd:

quite a stretch, Danne.
  12:28am
E.L.:

You should have gone for the double major, Danne.
  12:29am
Danne D:

Wow, Tell Me When It's Over :)
  12:31am
Danne D:

Saw Steve Wynn join my friend's band (Elk City) on stage during one of their shows as they were covering a Dream Syndicate song during their set on their tour. One of my favorite concert moments ever seeing my friend Renee get to play with one of her heroes. :)
  12:33am
Tim K:

Awesome show, Evan! It's rare that I get to tune in live, but tonight was a nice exception.

Hey - has WFMU gotten the new Drug Rug record yet? Not sure if their label Black & Greene is doing much in the radio promo department, but it's worth checking out. Gotta give props to my Boston peeps...

At any rate, keep rocking!
  12:34am
Danne D:

(show was at the Mercury Lounge some years back)
  12:41am
Danne D:

That guitar part on this song is cool, sounds sorta like a dolphin in that one part.
  12:43am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--No Harry Harrison tonight?
  12:47am
efd:

Michael, funny you mention that - I know I'm overdue for some "In" Sound, and I quickly grabbed one of the LPs but it turns out I've already played all of the episodes on it! Next week for sure.
  1:03am
Danne D:

I creeped within 10 points of the 'Goober in the Happy How Do You Do Baseball Standings with CC's win, but hope is starting to fade...
  1:04am
efd:

for some of us, hope faded a long long time ago.
  1:06am
Danne D:

Yeah I'm amazed my team's gone as well as it has. It's been very fun, Evan, and I'm glad you put the invite out to your listeners :D
  1:06am
Brian:

I remember hearing and loving that Sharon Tandy song on WFMU some years back. Still grabs me. Keep it rolling!
  1:11am
Danne D:

Signing off the board for the night but will keep the tunes going until 2. Have a good night Funk Faithful!!!
  1:12am
john:

Sadly, my hope is off having a beer with Evan's...good luck, Danne!
  1:12am
efd:

goodnight, Danne!

and hi Brian! Congrats on Open Ed '09!
  1:17am
Sybil:

There was once a snail that was sick and tired of his reputation for being so slow. He decided to get some fast wheels to make up the difference. After shopping around a while, he decided that the Datson 240Z was the car to get. So the snail goes to the nearest Datsun dealer and says he wants to buy the 240Z, but he wants it repainted to read 240-S

The dealer asks, "Why?"

The snail replies, "S’ stands for snail. I want everybody who sees me roaring past to know who's driving."

Well, the dealer doesn't want to lose the unique opportunity to sell a car to a snail, so he agrees to have the car repainted for a small fee.

The snail gets his new car and spent the rest of his days roaring happily down the highway at top speed. And whenever anyone would see him zooming by they'd say "Wow! Look at that S-car go!"

(I had to use all my google skilz to retrieve this half-remembered shaggy dog tale from the interwebs. Now I wonder if it was worth it. Well, I'm not good for much else at the moment. ;P)
  1:21am
efd:

i say it was worth it! thanks Sybil, and I hope you're feeling better soon!
  1:38am
Sybil:

"froy-lines" is correct. Danged if I know why. German.
  1:40am
efd:

should have trusted my instincts!
  1:41am
Sybil:

Actually, come to think of it (not that I can think right now), "frauleins" is probably not the right word for the plural in German anyway.

I hope someone who knows what they're talking about chimes in about now.
  1:49am
Brian:

OpenEd 09 got some serious surplus WFMU mojo. Sorry not to reply sooner, was walking the dog and listening via the FetishPhone... Absolutely killer, one track after another... and I even missed the new Pollard earlier.
  10:37am
Mister Ray:

Evan, regarding the Crucials album title...it's a line from "Teen Wolf."
  1:33am
Tom Walls:

Not that you check old playlist comments, Evan, but this was a damn fine show!
Avatar 12:02am
