Hey Chirs, you HAVE been to htown. Also, some members of the Pine Hill Haints are from Huntsville.
9:00pm
Chris:
danomatika - what was the name of that record store in the little mall next to the book shop?
9:02pm
dragonflyshards:
dirty & raw & perfect .
9:02pm
danomatika:
Sunburst ... sadly he went out of business about 2-3 years ago. Coudln't keep up with Best Buy, etc. There's a new vinyl, local record store in Lowe Mill/Flying Monkey call Vertical House which picked up the entire Sunburst stock when it went out.
9:04pm
danomatika:
I guess most people prefer buying/downloading music to record store communities ...
9:07pm
Chris:
thats sad - he was a nice guy - i left just as the city started to really grow - is the tip-top still there?
9:07pm
stretch armstrong:
Yo, honkey-tonk Louie is baking my dome.
9:12pm
danomatika:
Chris, Yeah things are always picking up, despite economic woes ... I suppose the Aerospace/Defense industry doesn't get hit so badly. Culturally, things are getting better then when I was in high school there. There is an alternative arts center called the Flying Monkey in the refurbished Lowe Mill cotton/textile mill just near Governors dive and downtown. It's basically a free form theater, art space, and venue for alternative culture and seems to be doing well. I was only in town last for about 6 months before I came back to Europe for work, but in that time I was part of or some shows and theater plays, all written and produced by volunteers for the local audience. It's pretty great to have a place to make things for your friends and community directly, instead of just sharing external culture, etc
9:17pm
Betsy:
Ernie K Doe!! Where we can be free!! That Snooks Eaglin tune was amazing.
9:17pm
Chris:
danomatika - yeah, i heard about that place from a friend still down there but havent talked with him in awhile but i remember him mentioning a new arts place starting up. huntsville was a friendly place when i was there (people smiled at you just to be friendly) but he said the drivers started getting more crazy and too many strip malls where going up.
