West Virginia native here!
  12:49pm north guinea hills:

i always when old xtian folk songs from the virginia pronounce chimney as "chimbley" since it was considered immodest to pronounce any part of the body that could be remotely tied to the act of procreation, even if it sounds like a said part of the body in another word.
12:52pm Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

What part of the body sounds like "chimney?" Or should I be afraid to ask?
  12:54pm north guinea hills:

ddggd: chim"knee"
  12:55pm dc pat:

kim chee
  12:55pm north guinea hills:

apparently, anything associated w/ the legs is dirty to appalachian protestants.
12:59pm Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Well, I've got to hand it to 'em if they have learned how to use their knees to procreate. I am surprised there is not a sub-genre of porn dedicated to this strange and unique practice.
  1:00pm north guinea hills:

Rule 34
  1:01pm AnAnonymousParty:

"considered immodest to pronounce any part of the body that could be remotely tied to the act of procreation"

Gee, how can one talk about the body at all then? Or maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years.
  1:05pm north guinea hills:

If you spend time w/ some religious mountain folk old-timers, it's easier to understand, but no less ridiculous. (I had some great aunt & uncles that fit the bill).

left WV when I was 3. I only went back to visit my elderly relatives. Everyone from my parent's generation left after college.

lives in brooklyn now.
  1:08pm uncle ben:

  2:07pm dc pat:

  2:09pm Parq:

Island play-ay!

And -is - he - hoarse
Be-cause . . .
  2:59pm Parq:

Was it something I said?

Hey Jason, good show. A lot of the material had a quirky folk quality that somehow reminded me of Catholic guitar masses. As Tony Coulter fans know, that's not a bad thing.
  3:00pm north guinea hills:

thanks jason. nice show.

as someone who lived 20 years in fla, and has been to toronto, fla is still shiittier (except the beaches and wildlife)
  3:01pm Cecile:

nope, very true, Parq!
  6:37pm pat:

Do you know where I can get a copy of Richard Vale and The Gems "Free Again"... thank you
  7:52pm Mike Messer:

I knew The Tonyan Family back when they recorded the album which "Who Will Buy" was on. How could I get a copy of that album now?
