jonathan:

I just tweeted and updated my linked in status to comment on the mini-marathon. Like anyone reads that stuff.

12:50pm
johnc:
love your show, maria! i've been listening to your show regularly for a couple years now... and doug... i love you guys! i wish i had a million to pledge.. sniff.
12:58pm
Cecile:
Shelter from the Ash is really, really worth pledging for.
1:10pm
LizGig:
Hi Maria and Doug! I pledged earlier, but when I went to the shop I was inspired to buy a scratch card. If I win over 20 euro, I'll split it with you. Stay tuned.
1:29pm
LizGig:
Alas, no. The National Lottery did not grace me with riches. I really thought I'd get lucky and win something! But it sounds like the marathon is going well. Life would be far poorer without WFMU.
1:38pm
Jim frm B-Burg:
We are listening and loving, Maria! Thanks for the show..Hey everyone lets support a good thing.
1:41pm
Jackie ny-ca:
I just pledged online. I hope you got it. I had to answer the phone here at work so I didn't hear if you said. I love your show, Maria. I really love your show and blog, Doug.

north guinea hills:
If all goes well, and I prevail w/ my health insurance snafu, i'll be able to pledge by the end of the week. if not, i'm going to be a poor guinea hills.
1:49pm

p.s., it's "la-lay-nya", like the Donovan song.
1:56pm
Chris:
Thanks, Maria.. would love that NoW CD :-) As always, I am captivated by your show. You provide the fuel for my creativity... muchas gracias!
2:07pm
Cecile:
Early Hall and Oates and some of their weirder stuff is a lot like their buddy Todd Rundgren
2:11pm
LizGig:
Hall and Oates are buddies with Todd Rundgren? That's as peculiar sounding as Iggy Pop playing golf.
2:12pm
?:
they're all from Philly . . .
2:13pm
Cecile:
They're only about 4-5 years younger than Todd. They all grew up in Philly listening to the same stuff. The last couple of times, they've toured together.
2:16pm
LizGig:
You know, I'd like to see that sort of double bill. It's like...well, it's like playing Todd Rundgren and Hall and Oates back to back. Contrasting. But perhaps Rundgren has done some soulful radio-friendly stuff I'm not familiar with.
2:18pm
Carmichael:
On Todd's album Back to the Bars, Hall and Oates (along with about a hundred other people) play in the band.
2:30pm
Cecile:
He has. He's done covers of Spinners songs, the soul medly on A Wizard, A True Star.
Even things like Can We Still Be Friends and Hello It's Me are very soulful in their way.
2:32pm
Cecile:
I don't think they're so much contrasting as they sit alongside each other like a couple of those pie wedges in a Trivial Pursuit game piece.
2:34pm
Cecile:
Here's a news story about Daryl Hall and Todd singing soul on on an episode of Hall's show: Live at Daryl's House.
That is a far superior analogy to my struggle with words, Cecile! I must put Todd Rundgren on my to-listen-to list and learn more.
2:36pm
Carmichael:
The Hermit of Mink Hollow is a perfect example of his diversity. "You Cried Wolf" could have been played on any Motown-oriented station.
Didn't Billy Ocean do a cover of "Love is the Answer"?
2:36pm
Cecile:
It is an often exasperating process, as Todd is capricious and indulgent. His fans are brutally honest about his whims, but he's done more than enough great stuff to forgive him some scary stuff.
2:38pm
Looms (Fr):
There are so many great shows on WFMU i couldn't say which is my favourite. BUT i disvovered the station through Dan Bodah's Airborne Event (a beautiful schedule for european listeners), and became immediatly a regular listener.
2:47pm
Looms (Fr):
And, Maria, i do love your show!
2:48pm
Cecile:
Carm, I can't find any record of BIlly Ocean doing that song.
2:50pm
Jim frm B-Burg:
HEY JAMES!
2:55pm
Kristina:
Great show!!! i will be tuning in again!
