I think sock monkeys are more for the enjoyment of the givers than the receivers.

Best xmasy gift I remember from my childhood was the board game with a vertical footprint- 'Blockhead'

  7:39pm
sugarwolf:

The Barbies I had as a girl are being brought back as Retro Barbies. I didn't think I was that old!!

That's me in the pigtails, or some approximation then and there
  7:41pm
CB1:

Mo, you're cooking a slow boil tonight!

Best toy: an Erector Set. I found it under the bed week before xmas and had half a ferris wheel built when the car pulled in the driveway. I had to pomise to act surprised in front of my grandmother on xmas - or else!!
  7:42pm
sugarwolf:

I like the new Barbra Streisand Barbie. And the Debbie Harry one. And, uh, Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken!!
  7:43pm
Don (trip dub):

Emenee organ precursor to Casio or Farfisa. Mr. Machine, Erector Set, Lionel or fascination (any stuff from Wonderama days). Anti- easy back oven for the guys were the plastic molds of army men placed in the oven to harden the action figure.
  7:45pm
CB1:

Sugarwolf,

Are they called Barbie Streisand and Blondie Barbie?
  7:45pm
ted:

I liked Stretch Armstrong until his jellybones fossilized. Then I loved him.
  7:48pm
phillyd:

CB1, i got the same story!! Only mine was Tin Can Alley, Never got caught. Was nice at the age of 7 or so to KNOW Santa-gate wasn't just a delusion of mine!

sugarwolf:

here is Barbra Barbie: http://www.barbiecollector.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=N6574

I just want them to make an Elliott Gould Ken.
  8:13pm
G:

i was a science nerd till puberty. among many other things, got a chemistry set with little plastic bottles of compounds that you could use to make smallscale but (for kids) "really cool" fizzes and pops and whatnot. i read last week that chemistry sets no longer exist for the young demo, owing to 1. lawsuit worries, and 2. terrorism possibility issues. that's progress fer ya!!!!
  8:21pm
rich:

Whoa....Edie
  8:22pm
CB1:

G:

WOW! Forgot all about the chemistry set! Also - any magic trick - like the fake thumb you could so you could make lit cigarettes disappear.
  8:28pm
ashli todd:

what a record .. one of my most loved tom tunes.
  8:28pm
Don (trip dub):

Happy Tanksgivin to you and Butter. Will you be spinnin at Lakeside w Ichiban - it would be BOSS. I wonder what Kyra thinks when she hears that cut from her mom. Did Rick Rubin produce that Waits track.
  8:29pm
ben:

Keep on rockin! Your sounds help my poboy go on down.
  8:30pm
G:

just noticed this is the anniversary of 1963, but not a round number (46), hence no real publicity unlike 40 or (last year) 45...
  8:35pm
monica:

Hi G! my brother had one of those and blew and almost blew up the attic.... rich, i know, deep huh? in a superficial way..thanks, sugarwolf, xmas just came early for me.....CB1, do tell!!... ashli, love that one too!!....Don (trip dub), won't be at Lakesie as I'm working but will send out good vibes, dunno if rick produced that one or not ...be, you're the wind beneath my flimsy wings...
  8:35pm
G:

The lyrics on this pretty Brasilian "All of Me" are really a completely different set of lyrics to fit the melody of the original. -- Disse alguem is "Someone said"...
  8:36pm
trs:

What did that someone say?
  8:37pm
texas scott:

@monica Kenner Easy Show.played short cartoons on any flat surface.
  8:39pm
G:

To summarize, the sentiments of the lyric are kind of typical Brasilian longing for love that didn't or isn't working out. My heart, crying, longing, etc. The original lyric is along the lines of more like "let's be soulmates."
  8:40pm
G:

Boneca means "Doll"
  8:41pm
annie:

i am so diggin this, but i'm falling asleep.. yeah, yeah, i'm a wimp.... monica. wonderful show
  8:50pm
trs:

hm, G. Puts a new spin on the connotation of that particular melody.
  8:58pm
monica:

hey, annie, no apologies, girl!! sweet dreams....thanks for the translation, G!!...THANKS ONE AND ALL FOR SWINGIN' THRU TONITE!! MUCH LOVE AND HAVE A FAB THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY!! SEE YA NEXT SUNDAY...xo. m.
