Listener comments!

  11:10pm
Jair:

finally, tuesday night
  11:11pm
john:

Hey Evan! Great track from criminally overlooked record!
  11:14pm
Sybil:

Oh my, the Left Banke.

Good evening all!
  11:15pm
G:

Tuned in and finding out...
  11:16pm
Sybil:

Oh, and: what Jair said.

I've been laying low on commenting because of early AM work schedule, but that's soon ending. Yay!
  11:21pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I sincerely enjoyed the song from Teddy Bears.
  11:22pm
efd:

hi everyone, nice to see you all and glad you're enjoying the show. I'll join you for more commenting later.
  11:23pm
Jair:

yes, the holidays
i think im only really going to appreciate them VERY much this year, happy days to all
  11:27pm
Joe:

I love the carstairs. There's an arrested development reference, there.
  11:30pm
san francisco spike:

this is sonic torture of the best kind! where did you find it?
  11:31pm
the rube:

damn that was annoying
  11:31pm
Doc:

this is awesome
  11:31pm
Rachel:

ugh more like even 'trunk' davies
  11:32pm
dave:

justine from math the band seems only rarely find her way out of her new jersey/texas orbit.
  11:32pm
Brendan:

That Savior Adore track was beautiful. Kind of bummed that it seemed every college station in the western hemisphere got a shout out from Justine and mine didn't, and she just played a show here too!
  11:33pm
dave:

also, i kinda think i might have a little crush on justine from math the band.
  11:34pm
Sybil:

justine does only one thing, but she does it well.
  11:35pm
osvi:

Props to KDVS and you EFD. Enjoying the beats.
  11:39pm
dave:

i'm pretty sure justine is the one in the hat:

brendan:

D'oh! I meant Savoir Adore.
EFD - If you're willing to let Justine go again, WHUS Storrs.
  11:42pm
Sybil:

dave just completely busted the margins.
  11:50pm
efd:

edited Dave's post & replaced with a shortened url
  11:53pm
dave:

remind me to invest in a URL-shortening service before developing my next unhealthy obsession with an ironic 8-bit pop outfit.
  11:59pm
Sybil:

busting the margins is somehow endearing though...
  11:59pm
dave:

it was totally worth it.
  12:01am
john:

Spent four years with WHUS as the only station worth tuning into, early-80s stylee. Cheetah Chrome live and drunk in the studio a particular highlight. Pity there's no way to pronounce it other than "wuss."
  12:06am
efd:

after all my bragadoccio i don't even see a math the band id for WHUS! phooey.
  12:09am
Joe:

Bernard "motherfuckin" Purdie.

I mean, seriously people. Holy shit.
  12:13am
Sybil:

You'll be glad to know that "orange" has been rhymed.

A long time ago, actually.

Arni:

the cowbell seems to be the theme tonight.
  12:25am
Brendan:

efd - no worries.
John, is there any way to get in touch with you about some WHUS history? There's been some semi-serious talk of attempting to create a written history.
  12:37am
Jessica:

That's very odd, seeing the stbx['s name] associated with a station I typically associate with the actual-ex. Sometimes this world is just way too tiny.

Also: woo, new Fallen Leaves!
I [heart] them a lot.
  12:39am
Lu20:

Great show tonight! Love PHB!!!
  12:47am
Sybil:

Wayback in the 80's, I used to share a wall with a band called The Chairs. They were pretty hoppin, too. My main memory of them, though: one time their lead singer told me that they were better than Tin Huey because "we're still together, and they're not".

I think he was jealous of my love for Tin Huey.

Thanks for the memories.

  12:47am
AZ:

Wow...William Truckaway! Way to dig deep!
  12:49am
efd:

I figured if anyone would appreciate that song it would be you, AZ. Or possibly John.

Sybil, glad you took the time to articulate that story!
  12:51am
efd:

Lu20, glad you're enjoying the show! And Jessica, yes, Fallen Leaves are wonderful.
  12:52am
Jessica:

This tha funky homosapien kind of rules in its own special way, too.
  12:53am
Jessica:

Danne D:

Hi there Funk Fans! :D
  1:10am
AZ:

Off the top of my head, there were probably about 20 loss-leaders (there are a few records that kinda-sorta fit the category, but not quite, so it's hard to get an exact count). Many people have said over the years "hey, it'd be great to reissue some of those loss leaders," but as you correctly surmise, the clearance issues would be insurmountable. BTW, I used to know Elaine, the very nice person at WB who used to answer all of the loss leader letters and then mailed out the records. (They even used her in advertising at one point.) Checks and money orders were always accepted, but plenty of people just sent a couple of dollar bills. I love the '68 and '69 loss leaders, which are brilliantly compiled, but the late 70's "Troublemakers" may have been the greatest of them all.
  1:12am
Lino:

The Upper Crust are so proper...and Justine....SHUT UP
  1:16am
Jan Coztás:

That Ganglians song is so, so, so good. Thanks for playing it!
  1:17am
efd:

Jan, you're welcome - my pleasure!

Lino, you can't blame Justine for my own manipulations. But I'm with you on the Upper Crust.

AZ, thanks for the Loss Leader info - exactly what I was looking for!

Greetings, DAnne D!
  1:18am
AZ:

Inevitably, it turns out that there's an entire website devoted to the loss leaders: http://www.dustbury.com/music/wblist2.html
By their count, the number is 35!
  1:23am
efd:

of course there is! Thanks for the link, I'll check it out when I'm off-duty.
  1:28am
randy in NC:

Lotsa blues tonight...
  1:30am
randy in NC:

... as in I IV I IV V :
  1:36am
AZ:

My Teenage Stride: I like the way they've turned a random line from an Eno song into a hook!
  1:46am
randy in NC:

AZ, not only that but it sounded a bit like On a Faraway Beach
  1:49am
Brendan:

Oh, that's Classy Craig! I thought that voice was familiar. As the kids say, "good looks" efd.
  2:19am
Joe:

GOOD LOOKS EFD
