dc pat:

Bach and before; Ives and after!
  3:40pm
Jimmo:

Fabio, great premium. thanks.
  3:43pm
Ike:

Woah, intense! Go, fellow former Marylander, go!

Impressed that people get into new music in Baltimore despite total lack of radio support down there.
  3:48pm
duff:

That's odd, dc pat. I feel about the same way - Bach and back and Ives / Debussy / Stravinsky and after...Wooo!
  3:50pm
north guinea hills:

Well, when I was a wee lad in FL, the closest decent radio station was the college station in for UGA in Athens, GA. From Miami to Jacksonville, it was a radio desert. (the last interesting independent radio station was bought out by Clear Channel in Gainesville, FL in 1993)

(small micro pirate stations did exist)
  3:53pm
E. Walter Stepfeather:

Post-Bach, pre-Ives, well worth a spin: Rossini, Elgar (barely pre-Ives), Purcell, Bruckner, plenty more.
  3:56pm
dc pat:

well I won't deny a little Mozart here and there but as a rule of thumb, it's not a bad formula. I found that quote somewhere years ago and was surprised how much it matched my tastes... Basically, I have no time for what they call "19th Century" music.
  3:57pm
dc pat:

I commented that because Audrey said she was playing Early music and 20th Cent music before she started doing this..
  3:59pm
nic:

this is great audrey was great_wonderful_thx

E. Walter Stepfeather:

Beethoven? Schubert? Schubert?! Chopin? Brahms? Schubert?!!! Believing one has no time for an entire century of output is exactly the reason for making time.
  4:05pm
duff:

I've heard a lot of that stuff (too much) on "public" and "classical" radio. I've given it a lot of time, frankly. It's okay, just not my cup o' tea, dig?
  4:05pm
dc pat:

as I said, rule of thumb. I'm not THAT fascistic! I DO NOT claim to be expert enough to blow off an entire century. I guess what I'm saying really is most "classical" stations (like WETA here in DC) play the same stuff over and over and over and never follow the Bach/Ives formula.
  4:05pm
dc pat:

I'm right with duff here.
  4:08pm
Ike:

Yeah, me too. I grew up hearing that stuff constantly in my folks' house and got sicker and sicker of it.
  4:11pm
E. Walter Stepfeather:

I'm with you re: classical radio and the constant rant of Vivaldi out the kazoo. The same LVB overtures, virtually no Schubert song, bleeding chunks of Brahms...never heard of Bruckner. But these guys--Vivaldi among them--have generated some daring stuff, evidently spoiled by misrepresentation over the airwaves.

On another note, a buddy of mine is wrapping up a film about musicians who work with nature and technology. The clips he includes from an interview with Miya Masaoka were filmed in my old digs.
  4:16pm
Carmichael:

I heard all my classical music on Looney Tunes cartoons.
  4:20pm
Coriander:

Is she playing anywhere else in NY anytime soon?
  4:44pm
JT:

Carmichael, that's as funny as when Seinfeld first said it.

Anyway, Audrey Chen's performance is great. She really knows how to work inside reverb. I'll be downloading this.
  4:45pm
dc pat:

Now Bruckner, there's somebody I like. Have to look at Vivaldi again but I don't think I can handle Brahms....or maybe... Welp, gotta go!
  5:10pm
1mckrs:

This has been wonderful and somehow appropriate for day with such tragedy.
  5:10pm
illlich:

good set!!!
  5:16pm
miketp:

go amm go. i like it.
  5:19pm
miketp:

i wonder if zappa was listening to this. it came out in 1966?
  5:32pm
?:

Didn't Zappa grow up in Baltimore? Think he was long gone by 1966, though . . .
  5:33pm
miketp:

i wonder if i was listening to this in 1966!
  6:01pm
illlich:

So PAY her already!!!
