Adrian Belew:

Talk, It's only talk. Arguments. Agreements. Advice. Answers. Articulate announcements. It's only talk!
  9:08am
jason:

mornin' mr belew, thanks for tuning in! is that a request?
  9:13am
Parq:

The Slumberland label, eh? Is the A&R man named Nemo?
  9:14am
Adrian Belew:

That would be wonderful Mr Sigal. Thanks and top-o the morning to you as well!
  9:26am
annie:

goodun morgen tout les peuples.
  9:38am
harvey:

good afternoon from the ol' country. great set j, keep it up (or down, its whatever.)
  9:47am
Cecile:

aw, man. Rowland. Sigh.
  9:50am
Cecile:

Annie, how's it going in absinthe-land?
  9:52am
annie:

lovely cecile. we bottle again next week, to fill orders and such.. she's looking in to buying a new still.
  9:54am
Cecile:

Very good!
If this is any help, there's a place in Minneapolis that does seriously good mixology and they serve absinthe. It's called the Town Talk Diner. Don't know if she's working with them yet, but they might be good to approach.
  10:02am
Cecile:

I like how they are getting a raga-like vibe without directly referencing the music on this Hidden Cameras track
  10:11am
Carmichael:

Good morning Jason & Wormwood lovers. Two words: SCOTT WALKER!!
  10:16am
jason:

word carmichael
  10:19am
annie:

i'll suggest it to her, it would have to be shipped from nyc, as she is not able to do that herself. i just found out her absinthe will be at the kitting factory!
  10:25am
Cecile:

NICE! very cool, Annie.
Yeah, they are drink artists. I'm skeptical of non-traditional cocktails, but they made this lemony drink with basil oil floating on the top that was just amazing. They call it the "jackson pollock"

I think their sensibilities would mesh well...
  10:27am
annie:

i'm just now getting introduced to all these fancy drinks myself. she made one called a "suissesse" .. just delicious..like ice cream..
  10:30am
Cecile:

nice!
I tend to like Martinis, Salty Dogs, Irish coffees, and the occasional Pink Squirrel

I also make a Vodka Gimlet with vanilla vodka with fresh lime juice. I give my friend a pitcher of it for his birthday. It keeps well.
  10:33am
annie:

irish coffee, yeah!! and she has this amazing rye whiskey drink she made.. ... good thing i know my limits..
  10:35am
Carmichael:

I know it sounds a bit pedestrian, but I just recently discovered the salty goodness of the margarita. As an inveterate beer drinker and one who normally pooh-poohs the froo-froo, I found it lip-smackingly good.

The next 4 were also good.
  10:36am
Cecile:

Yes. Definitely. They go down like water.

OH! Margaritas are also great. I usually like the ones that are like pale green Slushies, but there is a place that makes a blood orange one with fancy tequila that's lovely.
  10:36am
jason:

you can put beer in a margarita -- just be sure to let the coeliacs know
  10:39am
doug in dc:

The Giant near my house has real throatburny ginger beer by the liter bottle, and a lot of tropical fruit juices, being in a very multicultural hood. Also, the liquor store has Barbancourt Rum, so I've mostly been ignoring the winter and mixing tiki drinks.
  10:41am
Cecile:

I like those bloody marys that are beer and bloody mary mix.
there's a mexican drink that has beer, orange juice tomato juice and hot sauce in it. It's delicious!

Nice, Doug
  10:42am
jason:

cecile that sounds good, beer in a bloody mary...beer in everything! that mexican drink is a michelada, good stuff!
  10:43am
PMD:

Mornin' all. Hi jason! Listening in but working too. Annie, one of these days I will try absinthe or however you spell it.
  10:44am
Cecile:

Ah, jason good to know. I think the place calls it "el diablo". Either way, it's tasty.

we need to come up with a signature drink for WFMU.
  10:45am
Carmichael:

Corona, tomato juice and tabasco is a great hangover cure.
  10:46am
janet:

bitshifter - YES. you are saving my life - thank you from seattle.
  10:46am
TC:

Gotta try absinthe one day.
  10:48am
annie:

pmd- the next time you travel up to the city, i can tell where to go to try some.. TC- the stuff made by delaware phoenix is wonderful. she makes two types, walton waters and meadow of love, the latter being my preference.
  10:49am
Cecile:

I think I'm going to have to try it, annie.
  10:54am
annie:

problem is, you get the wrong brand, made with artificial colors and chemicals, well, you might as well kill yourself. this stuff is just pure clean absinthe, made with real locally grown herbs, the coloring is made from herbs.. authentic recipe and made with care..
  10:55am
annie:

http://www.delawarephoenix.com/
  11:00am
Cecile:

thanks, annie!
  11:00am
dc p$$:

aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, wire.
  11:14am
annie:

jason, once again, you have made the morning breeze by with pleasant sounds and great company!
  11:23am
jason:

thanks annie, always appreciate you tuning in and commenting -- your positive energy helps power the show!
  11:26am
Cecile:

that's a cover of a minutement song.
  11:26am
Cecile:

minutemen song
  11:26am
dc pat:

weird that this has become the most famous minutemen song.
  11:27am
dc pat:

right on Cecile. d.boone, sniff...
  11:29am
dc pat:

great version though.
  11:29am
esch oder anarchie!:

Not to bicker but Calexico's singer really butchers the melody on that Minutemen cover, though otherwise their mariachi band take on the tune is right on.
  11:29am
adam:

you're somethin' else, halloween mary!
  11:35am
annie:

i have no idea how it happened and i ain't doubtin' but wow, it's nice to have the laptop speakers working correctly. oh, wait, maybe it's cause my left ear finally cleared out!! no wonder i've been hearing monaural all this time!! hahaha..
  11:45am
Cecile:

Albini probably just likes rock. His tastes are very specific. Even back when he was writing criticism in the 80s.

I can tell you doing my remix of Corn Weenie that it was damn hard work. Even if I was using samples. I didn't feel one bit lazy.
  11:50am
Kat:

Ah, Mr. Albini, our resident curmudgeon (I'm in Chicago). I haven't seen the doc you referred to, but I suspect the assessment that there's a rock bias involved is an accurate one.

Also, Jason, thanks for your defense of Elastica - "Connection" is one of my favorite records ever, and I never related it to "Three Girl Rumba" until I heard about the legal hassles.
  11:51am
Carmichael:

Albini only eats fish, and wears a bath towel wherever he goes.

No wait, that's Bellini. Never mind.
  11:51am
Raf:

Hey Jason, tuned in a few minutes ago! That last track was great great great whatever it was. Thanks for playing the Honeys!
  11:54am
dc pat:

That Elastica tune is a pretty clear rip-off and they admitted it. I don't think they should be chucked into jail but maybe the song should officially be authored by Elastica/Wire? I dunno...
  11:55am
Cecile:

Yes. THE RECORDS.
  11:55am
Carmichael:

Oh my God. I bought this record new in '79.
  11:56am
Raf:

Yeah, this is pure candy!
  11:56am
Parq:

Mmm, jangly guitars, hook-y melody ...
  11:56am
Cecile:

I think that makes sense. Or "Connection (Apologies to Wire)"

Carm, I did, too . Did yours have the EP?
  11:56am
Carmichael:

This song was the hit. You should hear the 1st cut, "Teen-a-Rama".
  11:58am
jason:

http://www.illegal-art.org/audio/historic.html
  11:58am
paula:

cecile, does Town Talk still have the very, very best pancakes in the world? They did in 1993...
  11:59am
Carmichael:

Cecile, no EP. I was overseas in the military with no access to western media. I saw this album on the shelf of the BX, and the guys on the cover looked like they probably played rock. Went back to the room, put it on the turntable, and that was that.

Wow, immediate memory flashback ...
  12:00pm
Kat:

I barely remember "Teen-a-Rama", I'm going to have to dig that up somewhere.
  12:09pm
Cecile:

I found the EP after a long search.

I also liked "Girls That Don't Exist" from that album.
