Listener comments!

  6:02am
Chuck:

Morning! Swing yer partner...
  6:03am
Meghan:

Morning!
  6:05am
Chuck:

Sorry, I zoned out on sending you songs for this week. I had a cold for a good portion of last week and it's thrown me off....
  6:08am
Meghan:

I overwhelmed myself with this theme! That and trying to correct a bunch of iTunes crap as well....
  6:09am
Chuck:

Correct? Mislablings or something? I get that with downloaded songs...
  6:10am
Dave B:

gooood morning! And a dosey d'od yer pard'ner
  6:11am
Meghan:

No, the library says it's not there though it is.... so all the ! signs have to be refound... it's wicked annoying....

Morning Dave!!
  6:11am
Dave B:

d'od?

meant D'OH!

D'OH!
  6:12am
Chuck:

HowwwwwDEE, Dave!
  6:14am
Dave B:

howdee Chuck and Miss Meghan.

The grey exclamation of death. a true P.I.T.A.
  6:15am
Chuck:

Did you move stuff around, Meg? Only way I know that can happen... I know you didn't delete anything...
  6:15am
Meghan:

hehe... it truly is! That and I was getting a little OCD about it too. I have a ton! Stupid exclamation mark....
  6:17am
Meghan:

Nope, it just does it. I have no clue why. Maybe if my external hard drive gets unplugged by accident... no clue. It's just a bastard
  6:18am
Chuck:

Mmm chitlins... *gag*

Well, as long as the problem gets fixed....
  6:20am
Dave B:

That'll do it!

It'll usually happen if/when iTunes is set to store music externally and is quit without the drive being available. It'll revert to the internal drive...
  6:21am
Dave B:

monumental instrumentals!
  6:29am
Chuck:

Speaking of annoying... Just discovered the rubber level in a mold I poured yesterday dropped below the spout... Have to mix a stinkin' 1/2 lb. to top off and wait to open... GRRRR!
  6:30am
Meghan:

Ugh.... no leakage though right?
  6:32am
Chuck:

No, fortunately... Some of that yesterday, too many screw holes in the mounting board... Time to retire that board.
  6:39am
Chuck:

Cool! You could probably do a whole show of just ethnic insturmentals... I'm diggin' it!
  6:41am
Meghan:

I am itching to do an all African show. Since being at the station, I have totally fallen in love with African music from the 70's
  6:44am
Maestroso:

G'morning Meghan!
Intrumentals! I've been looking forward to this episode.
  6:48am
Meghan:

Good Morning Maestroso! Well, I hope I do well by your standards!
  6:49am
Parq:

Hi, Miss M. Ade, as in Sunni, is pronounced "AH-day", not "Aid". I got to see him live a couple of times in the 80s. Spectacular show.
  6:50am
Meghan:

Ahhh Thanks Parq! My first time on the air, I had to announce Ethiopian names... I know I was messing those up left and right! Thanks for the tip!
  6:50am
Andy in Berlin:

Hi Meghan,
this song reminds me I should have suggested the theme from Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence by Rioichi Sakamoto. oh well...
  6:52am
Meghan:

Hello there Andy! I will add it to my list of things to look for! This theme will of course get played again!
  6:54am
Maestroso:

Saltarello! Nice. Lots of stuff like this from the Dufay Collective.
  6:55am
Dave B:

Wanted to ask the gang here... what are some of your favorite online resources/wiki/databases for searching out music info?
  6:58am
Meghan:

If I am looking for labels or the such, I go to allmusic. Other than that google, google blog search, etc. There are some GREAT blogs that have rare stuff as MP3's...
  6:58am
Chuck:

I generally just go to AllMusic... Their database if far from complete though... I don't find what I'm looking for sometimes...
  7:00am
Parq:

Dave, FMU correspondent Resident Clinton did a great, massive two-part omnibus post on great music blogs. Here's the link for part two, which itself has a link to part one. Enjoy!

http://tinyurl.com/mptruff
  7:02am
Dave B:

I knew I could count on this community. Thanks all!
  7:03am
Chuck:

Yeah, it's the rare/obscure that's difficult to dig up info on...
  7:03am
Andy in Berlin:

Boy SOMEbody's been listening to a lot of Steve Reich...
  7:06am
Dave B:

indeed chuck... indeed.

It is Reich-y, and I thought it was he. Reich turned me on to listening to gamelan music.
  7:07am
Chuck:

I'll have to remember to send you some Steve Morse for the next instrumental edition, Meghan... Wicked great guitar player!
  7:08am
Meghan:

Hmmmm, I have never listened to Steve Reich.... but if it is like this.... I just may have to START! This is one of the many reasons you all rock! Keeping me on my toes and expanding musical library!
  7:11am
Chuck:

I've got Reich's "The Desert Music" on vinyl... I'll record it and send it out to you...
  7:12am
Meghan:

Oh Chuck, I uploaded Felt for you..... it's on Mediafire. I'll send you the link!
  7:13am
Chuck:

Thanks, Meg! Looking forward to hearing the whole LP!
  7:15am
claire:

bowie and whoever!
  7:16am
Dave B:

I've got a few tracks from "Reich Remixed" and I'll drop that up.
  7:19am
Meghan:

Lots of Love for Bowie! Will have to now find the best one!
  7:21am
jen:

I like your show!
  7:22am
Meghan:

Thanks Jen!
  7:23am
Dave B:

Bowie and Cher - Young Americans...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z9b0GFRz9g
  7:23am
Meghan:

I think that was the same one Andy requested last week! That may have to be the one.... It's a long medley though!
  7:29am
Chuck:

Hope everyones got thier sunglasses on in the smokey jazz bar... It's almost a requirement... hehe...
  7:30am
Billy Jam:

morning Meghan - finally up early enough (NYC time) on a Thursday morn to catch your show live. Nice!
  7:30am
Dave B:

skoodlee ah, wah wah wah...

Hotlips Hoolihan.
  7:30am
Chuck:

Ah! A Mingus a-mung-us!
  7:31am
Meghan:

Morning Billy! You on the West Coast still? You are traveling everywhere lately!
  7:33am
Dave B:

Bowie and Marianne Faithful -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zonxzIDNvgE
  7:37am
Parq:

Turning it up!
  7:38am
Parq:

What the heck is cheesy about Classical Gas??
  7:38am
Meghan:

Ha! This is Parq's RAWK set.... hehe
  7:39am
Meghan:

Nothing is fully cheesy about it.... that is just the category it had to fall in!
  7:40am
Parq:

Megs, have you ever seen the film to accompany CG (decades before "videos")? It's a montage of classical art, blinking from one to another at an incredibly fast rate. I remember being fascinated by it.
  7:41am
Dave B:

IMHO - something like THIS (taste o'honey) is a TUNE, as it will be stuck in my head ALL DAY!

That's the difference between instrumentals and tunes.
  7:44am
Meghan:

Hmmm, I have seen an art on that morphs... but i am not sure if I have seen the one you mention.
  7:44am
Dave B:

HA!

And the "Benny Hillifier" for your entertainment. Put this song to your favoritre YouTube videos!

http://bennyhillifier.com/
  7:45am
Chuck:

I'd classify a tune as something with a dissernable melody... Instumentals don't necessarily have one, like in a lot of avante garde jazz...
  7:48am
Dave B:

@parq - sounds sort of like Eno's "Thursday Afternoon" VHS/VCD...

I screwed up a TV by leaving it on its side, just so I could enjoy that piece. This was back in the CRT days, and it got all gauss'd up. The rainbow in the corner never went away
  7:48am
Katherine:

Hey all...definitely the most accessible show for me so far, especially in the morning!
  7:49am
Billy Jam:

no back on the East Coast now so will be in the WFMU studios tomorrow live doing the radio show with contestants from the Hip-Hop Karaoke Championships among the guests joining me on air. Should be a bit of fun....>>>speaking of which I like your show Meghan and will make a point of tuning in more regularly....bye for now!
  7:49am
Meghan:

Good Morning Katherine!
  7:50am
Katherine:

Holy memories of roller skating rinks!
  7:51am
Dave B:

ha... check the video I posted on the UWTP facebook page! Wickedly pungent cheese!
  7:54am
michael:

wow! that Little Red Monkey was fabulous! I'd love to have a whole cd of that.
  7:55am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi....Do you have room for Surfing With The Alien from Joe Satriani? I saw him open for Stevie Ray Vaughn on Pier 62 (?) back in the 80's. One of the handful of big concerts I've attended.
  7:57am
Parq:

Turning it up even more!
  7:59am
Dave B:

push it to 11
  8:01am
Parq:

Gotta step out for a bit. Hate to think what I'm gonna miss.
  8:01am
PKNY:

Walked into work, got hit with the MGs and the Meters...now *that's* a way to start a day!
  8:03am
Meghan:

Ken, just looked on our system up here and no song! Not near the library (on second floor and I am on 4th!) I'll put it in the list of next time! There will be a next time!
  8:04am
jeff p:

dang it, I missed yakety sax and green onions!
  8:05am
Meghan:

Awwww... I saved the "Rawk" set for you .... and you didn't miss your requests!
  8:05am
Dave B:

thanks for getting this one on Miss Meghan!
;-)
  8:07am
Meghan:

Had to! It fit so well! Hell, so did the others... just had to make dumb cuts somewhere... ugh!
  8:08am
gumby:

I may just have to say Meaghan that this is the perfect set.. If I didn't already have all these songs I would immediately go and get them. Thanks for funkifyin' my mornin'
  8:09am
gumby:

Sorry for the misspell there Meghan.
  8:10am
Meghan:

You always need a good dose of Funk and Soul in your morning! Get's you moving! and if it doesn't.... then there is something seriously wrong with you!
  8:11am
PKNY:

Apache! I might start windmilling in my office right now!
  8:12am
jeff p:

YEAH! I feel like growing some pork shop sideburns!
  8:12am
Chuck:

What's the head count for listeners today, Meg? Seems to be quite a few folks here... Yay!
  8:13am
Meghan:

As of right now.....129
  8:18am
Chuck:

Cool! And I think that's supposed to be Mutton chop sideburns, Jeff...... But, if you prefer pork then go for it.....
  8:18am
Gjorgji:

we are starting the research.. great idea!
  8:20am
Steve:

iirc, Ken played a one-word song yesterday ... "Groovy" by The Groovers
  8:21am
Dave B:

Would "Soul Finger" count?

and FUGAZI! sweet!, my downstairs neighbor must LOVE me by now...

eph 'em!
  8:22am
Meghan:

Oh nice..... starting the list! Keep them coming!
  8:23am
Meghan:

Soul Finger was one that I was kinda thinking.... Yeah, two words....meh! I'll give some wiggle room!
  8:24am
jeff p:

wipeout!
  8:25am
Parq:

Back. God, how I remember blasting "Frankenstein" on the AM radio in my mom's car when I was in high school.
  8:26am
gumby:

"Fried Kneckbones & some Homefries " is not one word, but it is one sweet thought!
  8:26am
Andy in Berlin:

I just got back from the laundromat so I'm listening on delay. Nice work playing "Patrica"! Arguably a bad move not playing "Baby Elephant Walk" though. I see you played Apache but are you going to go all the way with Telstar and Penetration, Walk Don't Run etc? Can't decide it's a must or too worn out. Let's see. I'm listening to the past but watching the playlist.
P.S. I hate Frankenstein, but will defend to the death you're right to play it.
  8:27am
Meghan:

WB Parq! What did you miss that you regret? Also, looking for one word or Phrase songs that they say one thing in the entire song....
  8:29am
Stannerlee:

I love Frankenstein and I'll defend to the death your right to defend it to the death
  8:29am
PKNY:

And thanks for playing Kiss!
  8:29am
Chuck:

Sorry for the shameless plug of someone else's show, Meg, but....
I recommend that everyone give a listen to "The Orphanage of Rock & Roll" tonite at 6 on WVKR... That's www.wvkr.org for those of you not in the Mid-Hudson valley... Peter Clark does a great show of obscure/lost R&R and has one of the coolest radio voices to boot!
  8:31am
Parq:

I juuust missed "Apache". Oh well. Trying to think of a good. non-obvious one-worder.
  8:32am
Meghan:

it killed me to not play Baby Elephant Walk... I also had a great Quincy Jones song as well.

Be obvious! Sometimes those ARE the ones you miss!

I also played the Fried Neckbones song for my Breakfast theme... correct?
  8:32am
Andy in Berlin:

I'm now up to Yakity Sax and am regretting that you didn't play "Pop Corn" or "The Typewriter".

And a one worder? "Raunchy"
  8:35am
Jen in Balto:

Love you, Meghan!
  8:38am
Chuck:

One word? "Intensify" by !!!...
  8:39am
fishmonkeystew:

Surf's up!
  8:39am
trent:

FUCK YES FUCK YES I LOVE THIS SONG ESP ON A SNOWY DAY
  8:42am
jeff p:

Dang, i forgot "oscillate wildly" by the smiths
  8:43am
Meghan:

I totally did too! That was the song I thought of in the shower this morning too!

Chuck, I think Intensify has more lyrics in it....though it is a great song...
  8:45am
Dave B:

if there IS wiggle room, "Mildred Pierce" by Sonic Youth
  8:46am
Andy in Berlin:

I think we missed "Cry For A Shadow" by the Beatles.
  8:47am
Chuck:

Ooops... What are parameters for one worders again? I'm bouncing around a bit and may not have caught them...
  8:48am
Dave B:

and this is a stretch -
"A Love Supreme" - Coltrane
  8:48am
Meghan:

Like the Song Tequila, they yell it randomly once in the song.... or of the sort....
  8:49am
Dave B:

do explitives count?
  8:50am
Andy in Berlin:

Many James Brown songs could qualify then
  8:51am
StevieD:

Another one for next time -- Surfing the Wild Gowanus by Simon and the Bar Sinisters.
  8:51am
Meghan:

Oops! my bad! Had 2 things playing at once! Hit the wrong one!
  8:52am
Meghan:

Dave, give me an example....
  8:52am
Chuck:

Ok, gotcha! "Pennsylvania 6-5000" by Glen Miller...
  8:53am
Parq:

@Dave B, I toyed with requesting "ALS" for this show.
  8:53am
Meghan:

oh nice one Chuck!
  8:54am
Dave B:

I know I have some track that's an instrumental where the only thing said is "shit" when the drummer screws up...

I gotta dig and think of it...
  8:56am
Dave B:

@Parq... nice!
  8:57am
Maestroso:

Great show Meghan!
  8:57am
Andy in Berlin:

StevieD's suggestion made me think of Takeshi Terauchi and Bunnies which made me think of their record "let's go classic" which made me think what about doing a show of songs stolen from classical music. It's Now Or Never by Elvis (O Solo Mio) or Lover's Concerto, or "Night" by Jackie Wilson (from the opera Samson and Delila) or "Whiter Shade of Pale" fer god's sake!
  8:59am
Meghan:

Thanks all! you Rock!
  11:36am
Jeb:

Thanks for the play, Meghan. We are humbled by the artists that accompanied us within the set.
  12:00pm
Dave:

Yes, thanks for playing Evil Farm Children...we are in very good company in that set...thanks a bunch!!!!
  2:33pm
Jeb:

Oh, and for the record, the Evil Farm Children song is actually called Knuckle Duster. However, you can call it whatever you want, since you played it. Cheers.
  5:54pm
Meghan:

GAH! My bad! I have it down as Duster too.... This is the issues with typing that early in the morning!
  1:06am
searching playlists:

That's not Boots Randolph, but Ronnie Aldrich - musical director of Thames TV - snappier cover of Yakety Sax for the Benny Hill Show. Ronnie Aldrich does the version we want, this one, not Boots Randolph.
