A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:42am
dale:

i read about the west orange museum in the times. wanna go. i read in a biography that all he ate at the end of his life was apple pie and buttermilk - thought it contained all he needed for health. tesla would be a great read.
  9:43am
trouble:

  9:50am
Stuart Troutman:

So who WAS the bassist with Goldkette on that rendition of 'Dinah'?
  9:51am

  9:54am
texas scott:

i LOVE the O'jays!!!
WOOHOO!
  9:56am
Cecile:

Nice! I love Nellie.
  9:56am
still b/p:

Yes, that sounded like a bowed bass for Dinah, and I've been asked just this morning to find a bow for a saw(!), so I need that ID and (candlestick) phone number, too.
  9:59am
Stuart Troutman:

The bassist was Steve Brown.
  10:01am

  10:56am
numbatwombat:

cecile - i must confess i have not followed fashion for some time now but once upon a time eagerly awaited the publication of vogue for the ads of course. this recent alexander mcqueen advertisement is rather haunting to begin with and is now my desktop: http://idiosyncraticfashion.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/alice-gibb-alexander-mcqueen.jpg
  10:57am
numbatwombat:

it is clearly fairy-tale oriented but also reminds me of dario argento's opera.
  10:58am
Shana:

This cut is tight.
  10:58am
dale:

@jensen - that's pretty crazy. especially since edison wanted to take the higher road and use his recordings to better the masses with opera and theater. he started getting pressure to go more populist a few years in because he was getting creamed by competitors.
  10:59am
Cecile:

numbat, that is eerily appropriate...
  11:00am
mb:

Yeah! My favorite part. Dub it up Trouble!
  11:01am
texas scott:

Employer sez "Go home at 11:00 c.s.t."

God,how I love the once every 10 year snow!
  11:05am
still b/p:

Awful hard to be unhappy during any version of this tune.
  11:08am
Parq:

What was the original instrumental that the melody of "Same Girl" is taken from? I'm sort of thinking it was called "The Horse".
  11:09am
brian:

It's not snowing here in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia!
  11:09am
Cecile:

do not play Cat Stevens' version, though.
  11:09am
Carmichael:

Good morning everyone.
  11:11am
JcityJensen:

argeed Trouble! Whole hearty agreed!

i just google edison and that popped up in the top 3
  11:14am
Carmichael:

To be pedantic, Cat Stevens wrote 1st Cut. Everyone else does a "version" of it. personally, I like his a lot better than, say, Rod Stewart.
  11:16am
librarian:

where have i been....my mornings are saved, love the playlist
  11:17am
Vito S. Brevis:

Trouble, you on FIRE today.
  11:19am
Cecile:

Carm, yes. But I don't like Rod's either.

I think I just don't like that song. That could be it. The Koobas version is ok though.
  11:20am
trouble:

why thank you vito s. brevis. AND not to brag but i am popular with librarians...
  11:27am
drewo:

Trouble - I saw Fela the Musical last night. It was great!
Just sayin' to you and your listeners. Check out the show and check out Fela's timeless music.
  11:29am
Brian:

@" i am popular with librarians..."
I can vouch for that. Damn near cult status.
  11:33am
JCityJensen:

something not racist :) = http://www.doorsixteen.com/2010/02/05/my-mouse-path/
  11:34am
Lblnc:

Oddly NH hasn't gotten a real storm since before the new year.
  11:34am
Shana:

Trouble's popularity extends beyond librarians to fauxbrarians like me.
  11:35am
seang:

listening in from the education library at BU
  11:38am
Parq:

I'm not a librarian, though people often assume I am, because my office is just off the library.
  11:38am
jow:

Did anyone just notice when Trouble was speaking of the death of someone that the bird in the background did a sigh like whistle?
  11:39am
thecleef:

needs more reverb
  11:43am
miketp:

im in the library 4x a week. love yhe entire library system . get lots of goodies there
  11:43am
trouble:

BU? i am going to boston on saturday, what a coincidence
  11:44am
Fritz:

and I'm listening from the Museum of Zoology at the University of Michigan, so you're popular at both libraries and museums
  11:46am
Parq:

Miss T, saying that you're doing a great show is banal, because when are you ever doing anything less, but I'm saying it anyway.
  11:46am
Brian:

@Fritz
I love that museum of Zoo.
  11:47am
Shana:

Why, hello Fritz! I'm listening from the University of Michigan Library, so it looks like Trouble is especially popular at Ann Arbor's libraries & museums.
  11:49am
listener mark:

Good morning Trouble. Good morning every body. Human and other mammals. But not the pigeons. Great show this morning. I've been on the road the last few Thursdays and listening in the car. Surprisingly the radio signal is quite clear up here in the southern tier of New York. Due to the higher elevations no doubt. Thanks again Trouble.
  11:49am
trouble:

thank you parq! and thank you to all my favorite places: libraries and museums
  11:51am
Parq:

@seang, I have a dear young friend at BU now, but she is a computer sci major so I don't suppose she has any reason to come into the Ed library.
  11:53am
Brian:

We're all figures in Trouble's diorama.
  11:55am
Parq:

Brian, that is a *great* image!
  11:56am
seang:

tell him/her we have free coffee and tea here--the only library that provides free beverages at BU
  11:57am
seang:

i meant just "her"
  11:57am
trouble:

i love the diorama idea! very visual, and HUGE if you think of all the places people are listening in from...
  11:58am
librarian:

uga in athens is happy to have discovered this "place"...time for lunch
  11:58am
still b/p:

parq @ 11:08 -- (am I) the same girl =
Soulful Strut, eh?
  11:59am
Charles Powne:

Mikado! I have this single. Wow, long time no hear such cute music
  12:00pm
Brian:

Fritz, can you set up a local instance? I'm kind of fond of the late Devonian as a backdrop ...
  12:11pm
Fritz:

Brian, we're going to have to be in a rather large and time-transcending diorama to capture all this diversity, it's going to require some imagination by the diorama artist
  4:10pm
Schminn:

Hi Trouble, What an exceptionally fine show. Thanks>}
