Guitarist Yoshi Fruchter and his potent Judeo-tinged but multi-faceted all-instrumental outfit Pitom sets WFMU studio B ablaze. It's a full-throttle tune up for the Tzadik-label artists' eagerly awaited show at Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie St. on the Lower East Side on Wednesday March 10. Tune in for a searing live set - and to learn how puppetry begets downtown gigs, among other mysteries of the trade!

Big thanks to our illustrious engineer Ernie Indradat, and to Mark Koch and Alex Yockey for assisting.

Listener comments!

  6:12pm Detroit Mac:

HI Rob: You got a CDS art/design for your Marathon CD yet? I offered to help last year and am offering again this year. Give me a reply if you want. Thanks (listening mostly on the archive).
  6:26pm ?:

Does anyone know the band Red Baraat? They are playing free show at BAM tonight. They describes themselves as "North Indian Bhangra with sousaphone-driven brass funk."

  6:30pm Your DJ:

Great band - we've had them on the show (on a remote from Barbes in Park Slope last October). NY's first Indian style wedding brass band - they do versions of Bollywood songs, folk songs, some bhangra, originals, etc. Definitely worth checking out.
  7:16pm Lumpy:

Wow, this Pitom is great stuff.
  7:17pm Henners:

Lovin' Pitom. Going to buy their music! Wherever it is. Listening on my Wifi radio in Bournemouth, England.
  7:27pm Your DJ:

Glad you like it!
  7:46pm polyphonicpoi:

sweet strings.....
  8:30pm ADM:

Tubas everywhere!!
  8:31pm Your DJ:

You can never have too many...
  8:39pm ADM:

I agree, throw several varieties of harmonica, hurdy-gurdy and stroh violin and you've got a party.
  8:52pm kk:

Just a warning--there probably WILL be traffic tomorrow AM near the Holland Tunnel--it's the Chinese New Year's parade!
  8:57pm Your DJ:

Ah, whoops, of course, thanks!
  1:54pm Stefan Keydel:

All this talk of tubas makes me pine for the long-defunct zine "Tuba Frenzy"
