Listener comments!

  11:04pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

Holy balls, that song was awesome!
  11:04pm
dave:

that subs song is way high up on the "makes dave jump around the apartment dancing like a complete dork" list.
  11:05pm
john:

Hey Evan...spring training at last! DFFD!
  11:06pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

Dave, I am expecting to become high on my list now to! Thank you Evan, thats why I listen to this show!
  11:07pm
dave:

oh, and i gots me the the yellow vinyl TOO. so don't get all SNOOTY.
  11:10pm
Swami:

SWAT! My favorite song from fifth grade!
  11:10pm
ang:

this show is extremely fantastic already!!!
  11:11pm
efd:

dave, fair enough.

Jeff, thanks for the compliment! and john, a big "WOOOO" to you!
  11:11pm
pottymcpopperson:

Yeah!
  11:11pm
dave:

and not to spam the playlist or anything, but tom scharpling stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. his trainwrecks outshine lesser men's lifetime achievements.
  11:12pm
AZ:

A 5th (or was it 6th?) grade fave for me, too.
  11:15pm
AZ:

If only the rest of the last Cornershop album had been as spectacular as this song...
  11:16pm
C:

this set is premiumy!
  11:16pm
Sybil:

And "gimme your heart" is such a romantic line, too.

(Yeah, I take a long time getting around to commenting.)
  11:18pm
Sybil:

It is a premiumy set indeedy. As C said. One can only wish.
  11:19pm
c:

likely projection on my part, but something wistful about "complete control"
  11:24pm
C:

have you heard the "from here to eternity" live version of complete control? it's incredible. joe sings with such desperation. gives me goosebumps every time.
  11:25pm
efd:

cathy lane, i can't imagine you could have had fun without me around.

Hi Sybil, C, AZ, and of course potty mcpopperson! Glad you're digging the show so far. That Cornershop kills... I wouldn't have heard it except for
-- well, I'll explain later.
  11:25pm
Becky H:

This show is on fire!!! Keep it up.
  11:26pm
efd:

thanks Becky!
  11:30pm
c:

C: I have not, but desperation seems a fitting description for a lot of what he mustered. And sorry to have tread on "C", had not noticed. I'll humbly remain lil c. :)

And props to the DJ...v excellent as usual.
  11:35pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Come on EFD--SWAT was the show that launched Robert Urich!
  11:36pm
dave:

yer damn right i do, and don't you FORGET it.
  11:37pm
AZ:

"Judy Sucks a Lemon" isn't a disastrous record, but it's not as good as its predecessor from 2002. But nothing on it is as terrific as "Who Fingered Rock & Roll," unfortunately.
  11:37pm
lisa jane p:

Hello Evan, I owned the yellow vinyl edition of Mitch Miller's "The Yellow Rose of Texas" . Why?!
  11:37pm
efd:

oh crap, Michael, of course! That was the classic open-mic brain freeze.
  11:38pm
sf spike:

could this be the same Franklin Micare?

http://www.ddemusic.com/fmicare.htm
  11:39pm
AZ:

I think Lonelady is a "she" rather than a "they."
  11:41pm
efd:

AZ - dudely noted.

sf spike - could be! he didn't have the goatee (or the hat) on the '78 LP, so it's hard to say for sure.
  11:44pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

OK EFD I'm challenging you--as long as you're in that Private Stock bag tonight, how about a track from that Peter Lemongello album on Private Stock
  11:45pm
?:

I think Franklin Micare used to solo as just plain ol' "Franklin" in appx. '73 a few nights a week at a corner bar on Bleeker St. Played songs from the thirties.
  11:46pm
lisa jane p:

Sorry guys, that ? was me.
  11:48pm
efd:

LJP, that would support the theory that it's the same Franklin Micare posted the link for.

Michael, that Franklin Micare LP is the only Private Stock release I have with me this evening, believe it or not. And I'm up on the 4th floor, so can't run in and check the library.
  11:51pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Hey Lisa Hey AZ
  11:55pm
AZ:

Hey Michael! Does anyone really need more Peter Lemongello than this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLqhduumlgI
  11:56pm
lisa jane p:

Hey Michael! xoxo
  11:57pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Peter Lemongello was best served in the small portions appearing in his ubiquitous tv commercials from the early 1970's--which I assume is what the Youtube link is--and in answer to your question, no more is needed but perhaps desirable.
He's a very interesting case study thoug
  11:57pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

AZ and LJP are you on separate computers?
  11:58pm
lisa jane p:

But of course. I'm a PC.
  11:58pm
AZ:

Yes. It's a Plessy vs. Ferguson household.
  12:02am
Michael from the Left Coast:

nice cite there AZ
  12:06am
Sybil:

Al Green, sigh...
  12:14am
Benjamin Lawrence:

Love this song and the last one (and EFD)

C'mon cathy...
  12:16am
efd:

^^
*panting, out of breath from MTO onslaught*
  12:17am
c:

Are the entries not fully appearing in the playlist for the last two songs or is it just _me_?
  12:19am
john:

I assume these guys intentionally set themselves up for the spoonerism?
  12:20am
efd:

c, it wasn't you, it was me. I was tied up on the phone with the ticket giveaway, so just put in placeholders (so the accu-links would be, um, accurate) til i could go back and fill in the rest of the info.
  12:20am
efd:

john, I think that's a reasonable assumption.
  12:21am
Jeff from St. Paul:

I once requested "905" by The Who, Evan, and you seemed to perk up at the idea but did not play it that night. Its not really fitting with the vibe so far tonight, but I just want to keep it in your thoughts.
  12:22am
jack:

Thanks for the tickets Evan!!!
  12:22am
AZ:

I've been happily blasting the Purling Hiss album for the last few weeks, ever since the first time you played it. This track is pretty spectacular, as is "Almost Washed My Hair," which sounds like the long-lost sequel to Primal Scream's "Accelerator."
  12:23am
efd:

goodnight, cathy. you all can divide up my mudslide between you.

Jack, you're welcome!

Jeff, get back to me after the marathon - we're up in the other studio, so the library is 2 floors away and not easily visited mid-show.
  12:24am
A:

I guess this is the radio edit.
  12:24am
efd:

i've got something from the new White Hills coming up a little later in the show for AZ and the other noisemongers.
  12:25am
efd:

zing!
  12:27am
Aharon:

Hey, gotta save my A game for the marathon.
  12:28am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Holy cow, I guess I have only heard the Ministry version of this song EFD. I had no idea it was a cover.
  12:29am
efd:

I had no idea Ministry covered it! So, we're even....?
  12:30am
m9:

Magazine!!!
The single sounds quite different from the LP version...
  12:31am
efd:

i was just gonna mention that, m9 - the LP version is a little punkier sounding.
  12:31am
Jeff from St. Paul:

EFD, its on their 2003 record Animositisomina.
  12:43am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Guess who just won himself a copy of the "Gimme your heart" single of Ebay. Its not Yellow though.
  12:46am
efd:

nice work!
  12:48am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--who produced this?
  12:51am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Now that it's passed I was referring to "lady scorpio"
  12:52am
efd:

Michael, the comp was produced by Grant Gillanders - don't see individual song production credits
  12:52am
Dean Rispler:

This LIvernoise stuff is killer. Real punk rock. Awesome.
  1:01am
efd:

hi Dean! yeah. that's a good one. Thanks for checking in!
  1:03am
Dean Rispler:

No worries. And thank you for playing awesome stuff, Evan, as per usual. Just got back from seeing The Naked Heroes at Brooklyn Bowl. Great show.
  1:04am
AZ:

Yow! Both of these 7-inch singles just went on my "to be acquired" list.
  1:05am
Michael from the Left Coast:

I second that AZ
  1:08am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Whoa, more like Evan "RAWK" Davies!
  1:10am
efd:

this portion of the show is known as the Canadian Power Play, in honor of the Olympics.
  1:11am
Michael from the Left Coast:

So is there some Nick Gilder coming up too?
  1:12am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Canadian Power Play? Pff, they sure couldn't put a power play together last Sunday night!
  1:12am
efd:

he will be featured in a future Canadian Power Play segment.
  1:12am
Danne D:

Hey Funk Fans! Gotta rest up for next week and the marathon!

I think Evan has me set aside to personally handle all of cathy, toni, et al's donations :o)

everyone have your wallets ready :)
  1:13am
AZ:

Who else in the lower 48 would dare to play Trooper?
  1:18am
Keira:

Trooper got all the women dancing at my last party.
  1:19am
AZ:

LJP & I must now fade away and radiate. Fantastic show, Evan!
  1:20am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Is Narduwar going to have a Marathon premium?
  1:23am
Danne D:

Yes, Jeff, Narduwar does.
  1:24am
Danne D:

Nardwuar's Video Vault

  1:24am
osvi:

Burning it up, EFD! Great show. WFMU kicks all ass...
  1:25am
efd:

all the DJ premiums are listed here:
http://www.wfmu.org/marathon/premiums.php
  1:26am
efd:

thanks for listening, AZ and LJP!
  1:27am
Danne D:

Of course the MUST HAVE premium is:

Evan "Funk" Davies' Radio Heart
Twenty songs hand-chosen by EFD celebrating that original series of tubes, the radio! Some you'll know, some you won't. Bonus vintage radio jingles.
  1:27am
efd:

and good evening, Danne D and Osvi!
  1:33am
pottymcpopperson:

rrrrrrrraaaaaaawwwwwkkkkkkk
  1:33am
Danne D:

good evening, EFD :) I shall see you next week sir. Please request a lack of snow so as to easy my journey across the swamp.

Btw for Olympic Hockey Fans, Norway just tied Slovakia 3-3 on a goal with 0.1 seconds left in the 2nd period. The also ran teams have given quite the battles tonight - Latvia very nearly upset the Czech which would've been a crazy massive upset.
  1:36am
efd:

cool Danne, see you then!
  1:36am
Joshua K:

My pants are getting rocked off. Now I need new rock pants.
  1:41am
efd:

Joshua, I hope your rock socks are holding up, at least.

pottymcpopperson, late night for you!
  1:44am
Danne D:

G'nite Funk Friends!
EFD - looking forward to the festivities next week :) Here's to hoping you show that Scharpling guy who's boss next week ;o)
  1:45am
JEff from St. Paul:

It would be amazing if Norge can beat Slovakia.
  1:49am
whit:

4 Million people in Norway almost equal medal count of USA
  1:51am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Who's the guitar player in the laureates--that solo was the bomb!
  1:52am
Danne D:

sneaking back for a sec - I agree Jeff. Kinda dig the simple old school Norge jerseys :)

Good night for real.

Great show Evan!!
  1:53am
efd:

Not sure offhand which one plays guitar, there aren't individual credits on the CD.

BUT, they'll be playing live on my show in April, I think, so we'll get all the dope then!
  1:53am
john:

Four million people in Norway train incessantly for four years in order to come out and play with the other kids for two weeks. Other than that, it's all herring and black metal.
  1:59am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Norwegians are all about the Nordic skiing and rock that all year long. Any sort of cross country skiing is their Baseball.
