  3:01pm
Waiting:

Gee, I'm bored...
  3:03pm
PMD:

Only those who are boring are bored. la la la la la look at me on my high horse... la la la
  3:05pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

PMD, that horse is completely STONED.
  3:05pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

Why ride a boring high horse when you can ride an exciting dirt bike!? VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
  3:07pm
PMD:

No wonder it wasn't moving.
  3:07pm
Parq:

PMD is probably riding a snowmobile.
  3:08pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

Is PMD Todd Palin?
  3:12pm
Laura L:

The rare (as yet) alternate Clientele "Harvest Time"--thanks, Irwin!
  3:13pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

man, they be skipping my hometown on their North American tour...not happy....sad.
  3:16pm
Jan:

great atmosphere floating into my evening living room, Amsterdam 21:16
  3:16pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I wanted to make a "Long Long Long" joke but felt it was in poor taste, so I will refrain.
  3:17pm
gerardo:

hi, irwin!
delightful 'long, long, long' version
  3:17pm
Chris:

Only those who are sad are not happy...
  3:18pm
Jan:

Indeed, a great Long long long... This week George H. would become 67
  3:18pm
Bad Ronald:

@ Gerardo - I concur
@ DCE - Do tell...
  3:21pm
PMD:

@ Parq. no snow here. unless you count the powder type
@ Jeff, I take the 5th
  3:22pm
PMD:

as in sniff sniff
  3:22pm
Jan:

Is Irwin always talking so slowly? Or is that part of the gimmick?
  3:23pm
Lizardner Dave:

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
  3:23pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

he's on a high horse or something
  3:24pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

...and the high horse is on a soapbox...
  3:24pm
Chris:

JAn - I think Irwin was speaking at 33 rpms when he was supposed to speak at 45 rpms...fmu djs do it all the time
  3:24pm
Jan:

Is he always like that?
  3:25pm
Irwin:

@Jan:
  3:26pm
Irwin:

I don't
  3:26pm
Irwin:

know
  3:26pm
Irwin:

what
  3:26pm
Irwin:

you're
  3:27pm
Jan:

I only used to listen to Laura Cantrell, but I suppose you are right; it seems to be part of the anti-style. But the music is good, especially at night (which it is here)
  3:27pm
Irwin:

talking
  3:28pm
Jan:

@Irwin: okay, you made your point and how funny you are!!! ;-) Cheers! (keep it up!)
  3:28pm
Chris:

No style - they just forget to shift the rpms sometimes.
  3:28pm
Irwin:

about.
  3:30pm
Jan:

@ Irwin: really not cynical, Irwin, but what are you doing in daily life?
  3:33pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Jan, I think he's a highly-paid hand model.
  3:34pm
Jan:

:)
I'm sure he will solve the mystery
  3:35pm
Chris:

I think he's a competitive speed skater.
  3:36pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

According to my internet research, Irwin is a Hang-gliding Sniper for the Swedish Military.
  3:37pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

oh NO!~
  3:37pm
Jan:

Hahaha, Jeff must be right. You can't make something like this up.
  3:37pm
PMD:

Irwin's short.
  3:38pm
gerardo:

i was waiting for amanda!!!
  3:38pm
Devin:

A-train
  3:39pm
Amanda Fan Club:

Hope this one is on the swag CD!
  3:39pm
Lizardner Dave:

@Amanda: GO AMANDA GO

/@Amanda
  3:39pm
Chris:

Irwin was also a founding member of the symbionese liberation army
  3:40pm
gerardo:

amanda reminds me of petra haden's who album
  3:41pm
bennett4senate:

Irwin works in the bet-taking booth at Aqueduct racetrack
  3:43pm
Laura L:

In daily life Irwin is a tedious ideologue. Christgau blew his cover years ago in the Village Voice. The pay is lousy, but it's not about the money. That's the kind of guy Irwin is!
  3:43pm
A:

Okay, Irwin, you win.
  3:43pm
Jeff from St. Paul:

More research in - says his code name is: "Agent Ice Wing"
  3:44pm
Irwin:

everyone's gotta have a hustle, LL.
  3:45pm
Spinal Tap Fans:

Yes!
  3:45pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

there's a bustle in my hedgerow, though.
  3:45pm
Devin:

Woooo!!!
  3:46pm
Jan:

@ Irwin: Hey, I see on your website that you are into R. Scott. Can we have one by the Dutch 'Wooden Indians'?
  3:46pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

there's this kids' show my kid watches called "I'm in the Band" that is totally based on Spinal Tap...and it's pretty damn funny too.
  3:48pm
Looms:

Spinal Tap is the best metal band ever!
  3:48pm
gerardo:

what about the rutles?. they predated spinal tap, right?
  3:49pm
bartelby:

No complaints about the monologue here
  3:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

he could probably go a LITTLE faster...
  3:50pm
Jan:

@ Irwin: yeah! Otherwise I don't remember the beginning of your sentence before you end it.
@gerardo: Yes, the Rutles rule! They even influenced the Beatles (a little group from Liverpool Merseyside)
  3:50pm
Chris:

Is Irwin always talking so fast? Or is that part of the gimmick?
  3:51pm
Jan:

It's so fast I hardly could follow...
  3:54pm
Jan:

But Irwin, have to say the music is great.
But by talking so fast, does that mean that today's show will be shorter than usual?
  3:56pm
Jeff from St.Paul:

If he goes to fast the DJ Police are going to be sticking their nose into things.
  3:56pm
FCC:

Mr. DJ,
Please moderate your voice so ALL can enjoy.
  3:57pm
gerardo:

yeah, jan: 'let it rot!' ;)
  3:58pm
Jan:

indeed, gerardo: do I have to spell it out;
c h e e s e a n d o n i o n s
  4:00pm
gerardo:

oh, no! ?, lol
  4:01pm
Chris:

It all goes back to Blind Lemon Pie down in Mississippi.
  4:02pm
Indiana Jordan:

I say you did it correctly.
  4:02pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

spellcheck and google done TOOK YER JOB
  4:02pm
Ghost of Ricky Medlock:

At my company, it would work fine the way you wrote it
  4:03pm
Jan:

What was that all about? I'm no editor...
so at least the other 3,4 listeners should be
  4:03pm
north guinea hills:

serial ,,,,,,,,,,,,'s don't taste like cocoa puffs.
  4:04pm
Ike:

I like serial commas, but I've never seen MM&W with any commas. I'd probably presume it's as with law firms.

Only 80% underemployed like me? Really?
  4:05pm
bennett4senate:

did i just hear cussing or am I slipping into coffee-withdrawl end of the day passout land (prob both)
  4:08pm
Mark:

Irwin, I'm an actual editor and (sadly) do pay attention to such things from time to time. In a case like this I guess I'd be guided by MMW's own preference, which seems to be in favor of law firm style ("Medeski Martin & Wood"), though you could also argue against using the ampersand. Alternatively, we could ask ourselves "What Would Andy Breckman Do"?
  4:08pm
Amanda Fan Club:

I wish I WAS getting plastered with Miss Amanda
  4:08pm
Ken:

If we were just talking about the three guys as individuals, The New Yorker style would be Medeski, Martin, and Wood. But if they call their group Medieski Martin & Wood, you gotta go with that.
  4:09pm
Chris:

Modeski Martin's Wood is where I buy all my lumber.
  4:09pm
John McCabe in LA:

she has a point about the toilet seat you know
  4:15pm
Lizardner Dave:

Why isn't Irwin talking right now? Is that part of the gimmick? And I am not bored, but I am waiting.
  4:19pm
Lizardner Dave:

But seriously...one question I have never had answered is this: if I dump my whole pledge during say, Irwin's show but ask for DJ premiums from other shows as well, does Irwin get all the "credit" or is the "credit' distributed among all the shows from which I have requested premiums?
  4:21pm
PMD:

and I've always wondered, what does "credit" do? help the dj keep the show?
  4:22pm
Irwin:

All will be revealed in the Apocrypha, my flock.
  4:22pm
eric:

So is Amanda the love child of Irwin and Debbie Gibson? That would explain a lot.
  4:23pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I think of the "credit" as a reward for a job well done---that's why I give lots of small amounts to many different djs. Let them know how much you love them and all that shite.
  4:24pm
Ike:

LD, both get credited on the air (DJs from whom you requested premiums get the infamous "green card" to thank you aloud in the second week). Behind the scenes -- I have no idea. I don't think it matters. They just throw all the money in a big giant cauldron and then Ken rolls around in it.
  4:25pm
Sarah Palin:

I'm so excited about the marathon I keep crappin' my pants!!!
- TODD!!! Get me some god damn paper towels again!!!
  4:26pm
Ike:

PMD, no, if that were the case then almost no new show would ever last and Kenny G. would never have stayed on for so long. ;)
  4:29pm
PMD:

@ Ike, that's what I thought. but I guess bragging rights are a big deal...
  4:31pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

damn I wonder how many times this loop is gonna run...
  4:31pm
Al G. Braic:

If a swag train leaves Orange, NJ, traveling at X mph, while Irwin collects Y pledge apples from Y(z) listeners, what is the coefficent of the credit distribution ratio, and is one the loneliest number, or in Da Nang is it Thieu? Show your work.
  4:32pm
Irwin:

@DCE: All will be revealed in the Apocrypha.
  4:35pm
Ike:

Aw hell, I used both "big" and "giant" to modify the same word. Lame. No wonder nobody has hired me as a real editor again. ;P
  4:38pm
Jan:

Come on, Irwin. You're a music lover, and you also play exiting collages, but please don't play retro live-versions by Sir Paul that are weak shadows of his own original creations.
  4:39pm
Lizardner Dave:

Thanks Ike. The marathon falls during a particularly busy work time for me and I usually only have time to make one lump sum pledge instead of doing the build-up-to-the-total thing (though I did throw in a little extra during the Sinfonia last year when it was apparent we were going to miss the goal).
  4:39pm
Chris:

All right, The Final 'Mats (as we fans call them)!!!
Play the whole song man!!
  4:43pm
Jan:

oops... I seemed to have listened to 2 webstations at the same time for a while, while thinking it was some sort of collage.
(and he went back to the corner and didn't speak another word...)
  4:45pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

don't slink away, Jan, that was real.
  4:47pm
a guy in a chair in a cube:

@Jan I love it when that happens. Or when im browsing and some ad starts making noise that somehow goes with the music. Or when the web stream starts fucking up during Scott Williams show and I think its just Scott doing his thing (a whole show went by like that once).
  4:48pm
peteonrepeat:

I need some of this!
but he dont exist!?
  4:48pm
a guy in a chair in a cube:

or when the voices in my head sing harmony parts...
  4:50pm
Jan:

Yep, it was very strange indeed! Earlier on there were some Beatles in the background during these Amanda tracks. But then I visited someone's Hyves (which is a Dutch equivalent of Facebook) who had Beatle-tracks embedded in his site. And it really fitted in with Piazzolla
  4:51pm
ginger tim:

Here's another Virgin O'Riley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAtt16eQ2Lc
Well, my guess is they are all virgins, anyway.
  4:51pm
Chris:

who doesn't exist P? God, Sasquatch or Irwin?
  4:51pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

let me be clear. Day in the Life WAS playing during the guitar loop thing and Amanda was there too. I saw her.
  4:53pm
Jan:

but you didn't hear Michelle, did you?
  4:53pm
a guy in a chair in a cube:

I think pete was reffering to Ken DeFeudis.

I'm just trying to think of a good pun for the name DeFeudis. Seems there should be one.
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

no, Michelle was not there.
  4:54pm
Jeff from St.Paul:

Has WFMU ever gotten in trouble for bootlegging?
  4:54pm
Ken DeFeudis:

Pete says i don't exist, but I DeFeudis.
  4:55pm
Jan:

Oh, I love music from the 78rpm era...incl. Japanese, but I suppose that it will cost too many stamps to send it all the way to Holland? More 78's on my website www.78rpm.hovers.nl
  5:03pm
Chris:

Did I just switch to NPR?
  5:03pm
peteonrepeat:

pleased to meet you Ken
  5:06pm
peteonrepeat:

let me introduce you to biffo von swinehausen's rendition of 'Crazy'

  5:23pm
Devin:

Uhhhh....
  5:25pm
Jeff from St.Paul:

USA 2 - Switzerland 0: FINAL
  5:27pm
Jan:

@Peteski: Well, you did miss a make-over of our DJ, starting of very slowly but soon after speeding things up. But by now it's bedtime at this side of the ocean (23:25). I wish you all a great continuing programme. With many thanks to Irwin.
And please Irwin, let me flatter you, because I would love to win the Koichi Sugii Salon Music CD. Enjoy and till next time collages.
  5:28pm
Bad Ronald:

@ Irwin - Did the cashew taste like Ken's heels?
  5:29pm
Laura L:

If it was a salted cashew, that's ok. Unsalted, a faux pas!
  5:29pm
Mark:

I appreciate Jessica! But she does disturb me.
  5:44pm
Laura L:

Thanks for this one too--the live version they did of "Lamplight" at Maxwell's was spectacular.
  5:51pm
Jan:

the ambient late night feel of the last few songs is preventing me from ending the day.
  5:55pm
Jeff from St.Paul:

Big news! Pantera to release Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, and Far Beyond Driven on 180 Gram Vinyl! They come out on Record Store day, get in line!
  5:59pm
Jan:

Thanks, Irwin! I had a great night listening to many various types of exiting music.
PS: the tempo of talking was just fine at the end
