Listener comments!

  3:28pm
Cecile:

Fabio - I would call Roxy more like Top-40 subversives (at least everywhere but the US) or prog-popsters.
  3:31pm
Buck:

Sawbuck is a slang term for a ten-dollar bill, from the image of the roman numeral X (like a sawbuck) on the old bills.
  3:36pm
Bit:

and everyone knows 2 bits is 25 cent.
  3:36pm
Jack:

Dave! Good to hear you again. Miss your show a lot!
Fabio, as always, your show is the best. There's something wonderfully sinful about blasting out loud electronic or avant-garde music in the middle of the afternoon.
  3:38pm
Cecile:

@Jack, if not sinful, at least outright intellectually indulgent.
  3:40pm
Cecile:

PREACH IT FABIO! AMEN!
  3:42pm
Pooty McToot:

I would have just thrown them (roxy) with all the rest of those glam bands at the time.
  3:42pm
Barney:

The Picts?
  3:45pm
Pooty McToot:

Sub-Genre names and minute classifications weren't nearly as prevalent when they were starting up that I think the general thrust of their style/sound would have held hands with bowie, bolan, and the more art styled glammers. 72, man. 72.
  3:47pm
Cecile:

Pooty, maybe with the singles, but not the albums. I always thought they stood kind of apart from the glam, they seemed, I dunno, more grown-up in a way? That's my take as a teen in the mid-70s
  3:50pm
Jack:

I seem to remeber in 1972 that Roxy was lumped in the "art rock" category, along with Pink Floyd and Genesis and others. Glam was more the Dolls, Bowie, etc. more of the "look" rather than the sound or the music.
  3:53pm
Cecile:

I never felt they werereally in the prog camp either - they had a kind of frivlolousness and, I dunno, sophistication. Definitely an interest in fashion and style (check their album covers) those bands didn't have. They were kind of quietly weird, I guess. I like them a whole lot.
  3:53pm
Cecile:

Now I want to go home and listen to Roxy albums all night, so good!
  3:59pm
Wilfried:

Fabio, this was the most relevant statement i've been hearing about WFMU on www.
  4:00pm
Jack:

Also, I forgot King Crimson="art rock". I didn't get into Roxy until much later, but I loved Fripp & Eno early on.
  4:08pm
bb:

if you dont follow yoko on twitter, you are missing out
  4:15pm
Jack:

Shohola is in the very northeast corner of PA, near Port Jervis NY?
  4:17pm
Cecile:

I was so disappointed by Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It wasn't anywhere near stupid enough. It pulled its campy punches.
  4:19pm
Pooty McToot:

It is on there! I's heard it.
  4:25pm
Cecile:

AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I've heard this so many times!
  4:29pm
frenchee:

Hi Fabio and Dave:
WFMU's own MAC had some zombie dealings w/Frampton
  4:29pm
still b/p:

The Comes Alive stuff was fine, if crazy overplayed, for radio pop rock, but that song there nearly dealt a fatal sugar blow and perma-cringe to my system. Want syrup with your cheese?
  4:30pm
frenchee:

MAC doctored the "Frampton Comes Alive" cover with his usual flair, working on a zombie theme. The Framp saw it and actually liked it and postedit to his own fb page I think.
  4:32pm
Cecile:

still b/p and his version of Road Runner off that album was so horrible, I couldn't listen to Motown for a month.

I did have an 8-track of "Comes Alive" though.
  4:39pm
Cecile:

Pride, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Sloth, Envy
  4:39pm
Ryan B:

Lust
  4:39pm
jaypee:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins
  4:40pm
Cecile:

Greed
  4:40pm
Ryan B:

I think Bob Dylan's XMas album is one of them
  4:40pm
Pooty:

Wrath is the missing one from cecile! Now that all the parts are together we can form voltron!
  4:40pm
quinn:

hey, y'all should play Opus Avantra's Lord Cromwell (plays suite for seven vices) to celebrate those seven deadly sins
  4:41pm
Cecile:

Hey, I got 'em all. Eventually.
  4:41pm
Stanley:

sorry guys filled in the pledge form badly
  4:41pm
Pooty:

er... well I guess anger is covered by wrath so..uh..doot da da doot doo...
  4:41pm
still b/p:

Sweet Sufferin' Jesus & Jonathan, Cecile !!!
I had to check! For a moment, I thought you meant a version of Modern Lovers Roadrunner -- and I was going to kill myself at the cognitive blowout!!!

re: Seven Deadly Sins -- I realized earlier this week I'm guilty of the full set.
  4:43pm
Cecile:

No, thank God, sbp. Not that Roadrunner.
  4:49pm
Wilfried:

I don't want WFMU to be on the air for 1 more year, but for 10.
  4:52pm
Stanley:

WFMU is the greatest station in the world. Hey listeners in UK here's a good idea. Dump the tv, donate the licence fee and happily listen to WFMU. You know it makes sense.
  5:12pm
Tim C:

hey Fabio - thanks for the kind words.. the other deadly sin is enjoying WFMU & not subscribing..
  5:18pm
Pooty:

I am currently blasting off.
  5:20pm
Cecile:

Okay, I pledged, but I just pledged again.
  5:22pm
aidan:

Hey Fabio,
Love the Sun Ra, and also wanted to say that I loved the Micheal Snow you played last week, The Last LP. Brilliant! Love Your show....Long Live WFMU
Aidan pledging from Toronto
  5:22pm
Pooty:

Cecile!
  5:23pm
Cecile:

Yeah, they wore me down. I already bought Ken.
  5:24pm
Pooty:

You win all T-shirts, now. One for every day of the week.
  5:25pm
Cecile:

I asked for no swag. No swag, unless I WIN SOME!
Cause I'm getting a big box of fun in August.
  5:27pm
Cecile:

but keep me in this drawing. Cause I want me some Sun Ra. Or a TG Buddha box.
  5:29pm
Pooty:

But... BUT YOU COULD HAVE WORN THE SAME STYLE OF SHIRT FOR DAYS WITHOUT SMELL! I envy you...
  5:29pm
Pooty:

I have 2 shirts coming, but that won't allow me to be stink free for an entire week. How do you think I got this nickname?
  5:33pm
Cecile:

I cannot do men's tees except for the gym anymore. And the women's shirts are, erm, too small.
  5:36pm
Pooty:

:-O
  5:37pm
Cecile:

I'm no longer a mere slip of a girl. ;D
  5:39pm
Pooty:

That FM3 is pretty awesome too. Though I was sad that it no longer had an output.
  5:40pm
Pooty:

I would usually plug my other FM3's into my pedal board and just fill the house.
  5:45pm
Cecile:

I like the Buddha Machine 2 I got. It is great for the bus ride home. I don't know if mine has an output on it or not. I'll have to check when I get home.
  5:47pm
Pooty:

I just have the first one and the throbbing gristle one & <3 them both!
  5:48pm
mick:

does anyone ever see a conection between kraut rock and james brown?
happy marathon !!!
  5:48pm
Pooty:

I kinda want to break mine open to see if there really is a tiny buddha inside, but I am pretty terrible with circuit bending and probably would have to buy a new one.
  6:01pm
Ike:

Clay Pigeon doesn't have a live playlist so let's just keep commenting here.
  6:20pm
Ike:

Well, that didn't work.

Sheesh, Clay Pigeon, take half a Tramadol. No, I'm just kidding. Don't do that. I'm sure Ken doesn't have any he can spare anyway.
  9:50pm
beverly hillbilly:

What! No "Black Gold, Texas Tea" stories!??
  11:10pm
rich:

What's the name of the band doing that great new Spanish or Mexican Garage song where the guy does the chorus then screams, No! Heard it twice now, killer song. Can't find on Fabio's set list.
