Listener comments!

  3:03pm
Sean Daily:

First comment! Woo hoo!
  3:04pm
Listener James from Westwood:

Dialogue from "Bananas," if I'm not mistaken?
  3:06pm
Simon:

Nothing to do with cavities....
  3:06pm
Listener James from Westwood:

Yes! My mind isn't entirely decayed by aspartame.
  3:07pm
Betsy:

Hey all! Happy Monday. Yep, James you got it. Bananananas.
  3:07pm
Looms:

Hi betsy, great opening!
  3:08pm
Betsy:

Hey Looms, thanks!
  3:13pm
Stannerlee:

Sean Daily? I go away for a month and he's snuck back. What happened man?
  3:21pm
Esposito:

From this day on, the official language of San Marcos will be Swedish. Silence! In addition to that, all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under 16 years old are now... 16 years old!
  3:22pm
Sean Daily:

Hey Stannerlee. I had to hang up listening to WFMU at work for a bit. I finally figured out how to stream it without using company bandwidth and still keep my production up.
  3:24pm
north guinea hills:

I hadn't heard that Canned Heat song either.
  3:27pm
Oxford:

You are like 3 genuises put together....
  3:30pm
Betsy:

Thanks, mysterious Oxford listener! Hope 3 geniuses all together don't cancel each other out...
  3:34pm
Oxford:

They normally do, but not in your case :-)
  3:34pm
Patrick Ranahan:

Happy Monday Betsy!
  3:35pm
Pearly Sweets:

<3 Slapp Happy
  3:36pm
Betsy:

Hey Pat, same to you!
  3:37pm
Betsy:

Oh God, me too. I'm hooked on Acnalbasac Noom again lately.
  3:42pm
Stannerlee:

Nice one Sean, we were getting a bit worried.
  3:43pm
A listener:

Lovely song by Moby Grape, one of those songs I kinda knew I knew - but wouldn't have remembered what it was called or what band recorded it. And a very nice show overall.
  3:47pm
sf spike:

thanks for playing the Koes. great band, great story. they spent three months in Indonesian prison for playing a Beatles cover at a private party! that's harsh.
  3:48pm
Agent Armadillo:

3 geniuses reunited
  3:48pm
Betsy:

Ok, I really need to memorize the station phone. ;) Hey there listener, yeah I love that Moby Grape toon! SF Spike, did not know that story! Wow. It's a great CD.
  3:51pm
Agent Armadillo:

Oxford I heard you are playing a lot of table tennis these days
  3:52pm
Sean Daily:

Lazer Crystal! I like much.
  3:59pm
Looms:

All agreed with Oxford about the "3 genuines" concept, just want to add that Freeform is definitely with you.
  4:00pm
Skirkie:

I think thats 1980.
  4:04pm
Betsy:

Hey Skirkie, right you are! MCMLXXX = 1980.
  4:10pm
Skirkie:

What can I say, I'm ½ Italian.
  4:27pm
Daniel:

Wow, I don't know why it's only just occurred to me that Joanna Newsome is Kate Bush risen from glittery ashes.
  4:30pm
Pearly Sweets:

Nah, Kate Bush does it much better. More like a xerox than a rebirth.
  4:30pm
Daniel:

That wasn't meant as an insult - I love Kate Bush!
  4:33pm
Looms:

Pearly, i do share your sentiment.
  4:33pm
Betsy:

Ha! Daniel, no offense taken. ;)
  4:34pm
sf spike:

for anyone who's interested, here's more on the Koes Bersaudara story and the new CD:

http://www.sublimefrequencies.com/item.asp?Item_id=64&cd=Koes-Bersaudara-1967
  4:36pm
Pearly Sweets:

II dig it, Daniel. No worries. Newsom just hasn't clicked with me yet. I can enjoy a song here and there, but put two of her tracks on back-to-back and I am ready for anything else. That being said, I adore Kate Bush to my inner core.
  4:38pm
Marshall:

Couldn't disagree more. Think Joanna Newsom is way more talented.
  4:39pm
Daniel:

. . . and on this topic, I think Newsom or Bush is a great match for Gesualdo. Sometimes his harmonies are completely from left field. Sublime set Betsy, great to hear you today.
  4:40pm
Looms:

Marshall, you're out of your mind!
  4:40pm
Betsy:

Hey, thanks much Daniel!
  4:41pm
Pearly Sweets:

I'll admit that the basis of my opinion is based solely on personal taste. But Newsom just bores me to death. And at the end of the day, I truly do want my music to either entertain me or enlighten me and she does neither.
  4:44pm
Daniel:

I think Bush had a nice long career to ferment her weird liquor. Newsom is till bubbling.
  4:44pm
north guinea hills:

Actually, "Have one on Me" is 3 cd's. I could never get into Kate Bush, but I adore Joanna Newsome, albeit her voice is an acquired taste.
  4:44pm
Marshall:

No - I think she's just newer and hasn't been around as long.
  4:48pm
Pearly Sweets:

I don't mind Joanna Newsom's voice as much as I do her long-windedness. I don’t think she brings enough sonically or lyrically to the table for her song lengths that they become a belaboring experience to endure for any sort of extended amount of time.
  4:48pm
Pearly Sweets:

I tend to enjoy her shorter songs.
  4:51pm
kitty:

the songs on the new record all sound the same, but people are afraid to say it.
  4:51pm
Betsy:

I never liked her before this album. Now I like her. Go figure!
  4:52pm
Gina K Fritter:

Betsy!! greeeeeat sheeeew!
  4:56pm
Betsy:

Hey Gina!! Miss you Lady, hope all's well with you.
  4:57pm
Pearly Sweets:

I liked her first album, Milk-Eyed Mother, but just couldn't get into Ys at all. Have One on Me also just didn't quite click with me, though I have given it far less of a chance than I did Ys or Milk-Eyed Mother.
  4:58pm
Looms:

I'll never stop believing that Kate Bush has been a most creative and influencing artist worldwide with her works from late 70s to mid 80s, and i see no way for Newsom to become so; though, i like her lyrics and former records.
  5:02pm
Pearly Sweets:

Hooray! New Cerberus Shoal!
  5:04pm
Pearly Sweets:

Excited nonetheless!
  5:06pm
Betsy:

Ha! Oh good Pearly. Don't want you to feel let down. ;)
  5:08pm
john:

You people are crazy. I see no similarity between these two ladies. Also, the only Joanna Newsom songs I really like are Cosmia and Emily, clocking in at 12:07 and 7:15. Good show, Betsy.
  5:10pm
Daniel:

I'll cop to being crazy. But so are "those two ladies". Gesualdo too. "One of us, one of us, one of us. . ."
  5:11pm
Looms:

Okay then, let's all be crazy and agree about Betsy's show. Great job!
  5:12pm
Betsy:

She's pretty and plays the harp. 'nuff said.
  5:13pm
Daniel:

Hear hear. This show got me through a rough afternoon. I ain't got no harp, I only got FMU.
  5:17pm
Pearly Sweets:

Betsy has been a joy all month! Not just today!
  5:19pm
Pearly Sweets:

Besides, she is the only one who I've found that agrees with me when it comes to Comus albums.
  5:20pm
Betsy:

Aww, thanks all! Much appreciated, I've loved doing these shows.
  5:21pm
sf spike:

thanks for playing Peter Grudzien! This is one of my all-time faves.
  5:33pm
Betsy:

Hey Spike, yep, I love that one!
  5:35pm
PetefromDC:

I'd like to make a grammatical correction to the All-Saved Freak Band's otherwise fine composition. It should be "...or, in a grave you'll be LYING." Thank you.
  5:37pm
Betsy:

Hi Pete, that song KILLS me. You mean the song title should be that?
  5:42pm
petefromDC:

Hi Betsey. Thanks for this amazing show. No, the song title is inspiration itself. They use "laying" in the refrain when it should be lying, is all. If they were, say, laying something down into a grave, that'd be correct.
  5:42pm
north guinea hills:

Great set Betsy. Ciao-sers y'all!
  5:45pm
torontotonto:

This has been one of the best shows I've heard on the Station! Great picks Betsy!
  5:47pm
Davice:

Awesome show; don't tell Irene though.
  5:50pm
Davice:

Betsy is a great name!
  5:55pm
Betsy:

Wow, thanks so much for all the luurve! Seeee ya. ;)
