Dead Corporate Eyes:

some nut in Utah is all upset that the New Pornographers are playing a free show in her hometown. She says it's a bad example to invite Pornographers to your city.

Mr. Benevento is playing in Seattle later next month. Gotta go.
  3:21pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

Why do Ken's listeners get an awesome new comments system tested on them, transforming them into the exalted guinea pigs of tomorrow, while Irwin's listeners are still stuck with the fugly old refresh-o-matic system?

Oh and you've gotta love anybody named Åke. Or not.

I am suddenly hearing the sound of an enormous crowd outside my window, along with sirens. I had to push "pause" on Irwin's show to make sure the noise wasn't emanating from East Orange.

Maybe the revolution has begun, Denise?

The Doors - When you're strange American Masters tonight PBS
Ch 13 in NYC
  4:44pm
Because I am a doors fan:

When You're Strange, a film about The Doors
About The Film

“The story of The Doors is one of the most compelling in the history of American rock music; three hugely talented musicians and a lead singer whose commitment to artistic freedom was so intense he rocketed them to a success that always hovered on the edge of chaos. As an independent filmmaker this sensibility affected me greatly.”
– Tom DiCillo, director and writer, When You’re Strange

The creative chemistry of four brilliant artists – drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and singer Jim Morrison – made The Doors one of America’s most iconic and influential, theatrical and mysterious, thrilling and sometime frightening rock bands. Narrated by Johnny Depp, American Masters: When You’re Strange is the first feature documentary about The Doors, premiering nationally Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings). The film tells their story using only original footage – much of it previously unseen – shot between their formation in 1965 and Morrison’s death in 1971. “From the outset I decided to use only original footage of this astonishing band,” says Tom DiCillo, director and writer of When You’re Strange. “To me, there is nothing more powerful and riveting that seeing Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Jim Morrison leap into life on the screen.”
  4:46pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

well, why not. I can always record South Park.
  4:48pm
Denise in Washington, DC:

Ugh. I'm sick of PBS specials aimed at boomers.

And I say this as a boomer.
  4:48pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I smell a pledge drive.
  4:54pm
still b/p:

It's another chance to play Let's Mock Manzarek as he expounds by the pound!
  4:54pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

Ugh, you're right, DCE. I just caught a whiff of the stench. Smells like smug potpourri, white wine, the hairballs of tiny yappy dogs, racquetball sweat, and espresso.
  4:55pm
Dominick:

ouch! check your phase scope please
  4:56pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

that phase problem is ALWAYS present on 20k Wimp.
  4:58pm
Jan:

Yeah, they will be replaying the Doors special throughout the year and years to come. That's what they did with the Mamas and Papas
  5:01pm
drr:

ugh, Ray Manzarek. It's always surprised me that X survived having that blowhard play on their first album.
  5:02pm
Jan:

david byrne is up on deck for the pbs hagiography
  5:02pm
Aharon:

Huh. FMU Classic Rock Surprise #772-a Heart song I like. Just when I thought I was safe in my ignorant snobbishness.
  5:04pm
Carmichael:

When will PBS do a bio of Swamp Dogg?
  5:04pm
Denise in Washington, DC:

I didn't know galleries could sing.
  5:04pm
darue:

Ray Manzarek may be a blowhard in interviews, but I forgive all for his
incredibly great Golden Scarab solo album.
  5:13pm
PMD:

Hi Irwin!
  5:15pm
Irwin:

HDYD, PMD!
  5:15pm
drr:

"Have You Heard This Story: The Life and Times of Swamp Dogg"... I'd pledge.
  5:16pm
fornay:

I'm another boomer embarassed by my generation. Of course PBS would do another annoying rockumentary about another mediocre classic rock band .Jim Morrison;Poet! The most profound thing he did was drown in his own vomit
  5:17pm
Carmichael:

Man, for that I'd pledge my ass off.
  5:20pm
Bad Ronald:

Yeah, Morrison was sophomoric.
  5:23pm
PMD:

I do well, gracias. I am not underestimate you. I know you are short.
  5:23pm
michael c:

You gotta admit, Touch Me is a great insane song.
  5:24pm
Irwin Chusid:

Regards to the shackled houseboy, PMD.
  5:24pm
drr:

Bad Ron, I kow that's right, cause I loved Morrison and the Doors as a high school sophomore. Their records got worse the older I got.
I should point out, if you don't like the Doors with Morrison, have you heard them WITHOUT him? Here's a taste, courtesy YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTXji28cBP4
(I'd put this up there with the Lou Reed/Pavarotti collaboration.)
  5:27pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

I usually don't like Dan Bejar's whiny NP songs but this one's good. Still strongly prefer the other folks in NP though.
  5:28pm
coelacanth:

Not a huge doors fan, despite it being an integral part of my youth...I really love the first and last (la woman)albums- & scattered songs between...and Manzarek DOES seem like a blowhard...but the doors would not have existed without him.He was musically innovative( the only one, probably)They WERE revolutionary.and though Morrison seems like an asshole,he also was brilliant-at times...and cool enough to not want to play all Kreiger's crappy songs (though he did seem to relish"touch me"...ugh)...and to say fuck you to Ed Sullivan...and for dying at just the right time...I'll watch this- esp.as i've never seen a doors movie.(in fact,i've never seen a pbs music documentary...so maybe i don't know what sort of sensationalist bullshit i'm in for! )
  5:30pm
drr:

Clarence Carter's version of the Doors' "Light My Fire" is pretty great. He says "no time to while away the mire" which is just as much of a rhyme reach as the original lyric.
  5:30pm
PMD:

Oh my. I channeled him accidentally!
  5:30pm
coelacanth:

hehe- i forgot to put a (!) after"Dying at just the right time"!
  5:32pm
curious!:

hi irwin. amazing set. who is the background audio as you talk?
  5:35pm
Irwin:

  5:36pm
curious!:

  5:36pm
Bad Ronald:

I'm not saying there's no room for sophomoricity.., I am prone to spinning The Soft Parade on my own accord.

Thanks for the link drr!
  5:36pm
darue:

Some days I like the doors some days... not so much, but personally, the best light my fire cover:
