Listener comments!

  6:02am
Chuck:

Morning! Welcome home...
  6:04am
Elwyn:

Hey everyone!

I'm actually home for the start for a change. I'm procrastinating from study! :-)

I had the best day: I got sent HOME early from work because I was sneezing a bit and one of my co-workers was paranoid of getting sick.
  6:06am
Meghan:

Hey all! Sorry, getting settled here....
  6:06am
Chuck:

Morning Elwyn! I think we're safe from your germs here! Hehe...
  6:07am
Dave B:

you must be this tall to ride this ride.

Greetings park attendees! Please keep the park clean
  6:08am
Elwyn:

Hey Chuck!

One day, technology will allow us to spread diseases over the Internerd. :-)
  6:08am
Meghan:

hehe.... morning Dave!
  6:10am
Chuck:

As long as I can get cash through the same when it comes to that! hehe...
Morning, Dave! Fruitcups all around....
  6:10am
Elwyn:

Hey Dave,

I hate being short (relatively). Why do all the tall people always stand up the front at concerts I go to?
  6:13am
Dave B:

YAY FRUITCUPS!

@Elwyn - perhaps its a Ozzie thing. I personally gravitate to the back of the room - I'm 6'1"

@Meghan - do you get to turn on that big red "ON AIR" sign for reals?!?! That's cool!
  6:13am
Chuck:

You are as you were made, Elwyn. There are advantages to being short. I rarely have to duck under things, stuff is already above my head. hehe...
  6:16am
Chuck:

Yay! Siouxsie!!!
  6:16am
Elwyn:

@Meghan: Re: "What we are listening to"
Were you around when people carried 50 ton ghetto blasters around? I wasn't. However, I always think of that scene from Star Trek IV where Kirk gets Spock to Vulcan nerve pink the punk with the ghetto blaster.

Yes, that's my Shatner reference for the night. :-)
  6:18am
Andy in Berlin:

whoa! Jetlag wearing off! Hi everyone!
  6:18am
Meghan:

I did Dave! It was FUN! hehe.... Elwyn, what you do at concerts is have a coughing fit into the back of the tall person.... they move really quickly! I do it all the time
  6:18am
andrew smith:

this show is great! you should make it into a podcast too. I can't always catch it live and hello from finland..
  6:18am
Elwyn:

@Dave:
I really can't think of many BBQ references in the songs I hear or find any in my iTunes except
Guided By Voices: Dayton Ohio, 19-something-5

But for meat references how about:
the line "I had a left over steak for breakfast" from
Yo La Tengo's "Drug Test"
  6:20am
Meghan:

Hello Andrew from Finland! Hmmmm, maybe I should cut it up in snipets for a podcast for the future.....
  6:21am
Dave B:

Speaking of the Shat, working where I work, I got to see the preview of the fall season for 2010.

"$#!% My Father Says" - how did that get made into a show?

@Park Attendees - I've actually got an entire show with Barbeque, BBQ and/or Bar-B-Q in the title. I was up late listening and cutting. I feel you pain (and pleasure) Meghan!
  6:21am
Elwyn:

@Meghan & Andrew:
Is there a way to post a direct link to the MP3? I usually do the geeky thing and download the .pls file then look at it for the URL.

I definitely got a cold when I saw The Pixies.

Wow. I've never bothered to pick up this particular MBV release. I don't even know if I have seen it.
  6:24am
Chuck:

Yippeeee! I'm loving this set, Meg! Keep going!
  6:24am
Meghan:

I can't post the MP3's.... sadly. Station thing. As for the MBV album, it was their first, really dark and gothy..... I totally love it. It's like when Ministry had their first album compared to what they ended up!
  6:25am
Dave B:

Had a late request with that song by Sparks track. Thanks Allen T!

And Hello Andrew!
  6:28am
Meghan:

oh Dave, this is the answer to your question on who did that Dio song- Rainbow in the Dark - Paola . It's off this great album http://www.amazon.com/Who-Will-These-Wonderful-Evils/dp/samples/B00009L1NZ/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1
  6:30am
Chuck:

I still need to get some Tribe for my collection...
  6:32am
Elwyn:

@Dave:
What horrid thing got made into a show?
I'm still in shock that people want to make boardgames, yes boardgames, such as Battleship into movies. Latest rumour: Rollercoaster Tycoon computer game into a film.

@Meghan
What are the legal/copyright issues about what WFMU plays? I guess airplay royalties get paid etc. But what are the issues with podcasting MP3s? I noticed Liz Berg's podcast is on iTunes.
  6:34am
Dave B:

Danke Schon - I only guessed the Cardigans as they've done a few good Sabbath covers.

Still - my favorite Dio story: working at Viacom back in the day, on the elevator we stop at the MTV floor, Dio gets on. When we reached the lobby everyone was being courteous "after you" "no after you". It came down to Dio and my friends and after Dio stepped for the lobby my friend exclaimed"Cause I'm the last in line!"

Dio turned around and shot him the horns...
  6:34am
Meghan:

Yeah, I would have to use the FMA for songs... it couldn't be this exact show, for the copyright/royalties issue.... But it could still be good, with some new music!
  6:35am
Meghan:

That is a GREAT story!
  6:39am
Chuck:

*sigh* End of a great set...
  6:43am
kath:

Mo'nin all!
  6:44am
Chuck:

Ah, morning Kath! I reserved fruitcup for ya...
  6:45am
Meghan:

morning Kath!
  6:46am
Andy in Berlin:

Hi Kath!
  6:47am
Elwyn:

Evenin' Kath!
  6:47am
Elwyn:

Evenin' Andy!
  6:48am
Dave B:

hi hi hi Kath!

What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got, say, pitiful, portable picnic players. Come with uncle and hear all proper! Hear angels' trumpets and devils' trombones. You are invited!
  6:49am
Andy in Berlin:

Hey Elwyn
  6:49am
Chuck:

Stop spitting all over the monitor, Dave....
  6:51am
Dave B:

@Meg - "Wanna Go Home" is by Joe White on that Trojan comp. If it came from me, sorry for the bad tags.

@Chuck - I think Kath'll know the reference... She's an old friend o'mine...
  6:51am
Dave B:

Guten Tag Herr Andy!
  6:52am
Meghan:

ahhh thanks Dave! I think I got it from here, but there was no name for it....
  6:53am
kath:

I hear proper db, I hear proper.

Speaking of such, whilst pumpin gas at the self serve the other day in the pouring rain, an ugly van came roaring through then stopped and asked me if I would like to have one of their 'free' surround sound systems. To witch I mentioned that I already had one of those at home; 9:2, in fact, later bud.
  6:55am
Dave B:

@Kath

\m/

rock on!
  6:55am
kath:

Oh man, If I told ya all how many fruit cups (actual) that I 'cupped' yesterday... wheewww!I am now officially a part time lunchlady servin up fruitcups daily now.
  6:56am
Elwyn:

Aren't we such geeks? :-) We do our best to make sure our ID3 tags are set correctly. I once planned to go through my collection on iTunes and set all the "Composer" fields. Stll haven't gotten round to it.
  6:57am
Andy in Berlin:

Guten Tag to you Dave! But I logged in a half hour ago. I get double fruit cup for that.
  6:57am
kath:

Ya, ID3 tag obsessed.
  6:58am
kath:

@db, Speakin of fuzzy warbles, I was having some major flashbacks to Richie's room this week with the passing of Dio.

...coffee time, brb...
  6:59am
Dave B:

@Andy - Kath will happily accomodate!

"Fuzzy Barbles Vol. 1 - 8" by Andy Partridge - must acquire!

I've been having so so luck using Tune Up for my tagging...
  6:59am
Chuck:

Don't ya hate it when you download something and find who ever ripped the music got ALL the tags wrong? Drives me crazy...
  7:00am
Dave B:

Fuzzy Barbles = Fuzzy Warbles

Kick in coffee... PLEEEEASE!
  7:00am
Elwyn:

Speaking of houses, only a couple of years ago, my childhood home got demolished and they built a three storey home where it was. I even saw when it was just a gaping hole in the plot.
I still wonder what happened to the Buck Rogers toy ship and guitar picksI accidentally dropped down the heating shafts.

The street number doesn't even exist anymore.

I hate people who don't tag things correctly in the GraceNote CD database.
  7:01am
kath:

Such is the drawback of Limewiring.
  7:01am
Dave B:

@Chuck and Kath - we don't download music. That's illegal!

*wink*
  7:04am
kath:

@db, Springtime for Hitler came on the player in the car other day and Corinne loved it. Kept asking me to turn it louder and louder. Little Miss Showtunes.
  7:04am
Chuck:

With nearly 87K songs in my collection it'd take weeks to fix bad tags. Grrrrr.....
  7:08am
Elwyn:

I only have 17K, 53 days according to iTunes
  7:08am
Dave B:

@Kath - HA! That's great!

@Chuck - I got some catching up to do! I've stalled at 70500....
  7:10am
Meghan:

No clue how much I have due to my iTunes issues..... stupid iTunes...
  7:10am
Chuck:

Don't get too excited folks, I've got a lot of dupes in there. Same song on a different comp, etc....
  7:11am
Chuck:

My real count is probably around 85K...
  7:13am
kath:

I have a scant fourty-one hundred songs in iTunes.
  7:13am
Dave B:

@Meghan - I'll see if I can offer some advice next week.
@chuck - yeah, dupes. Still...

I've been using "Smart Playlists" in iTunes to corral tunes that are missing certain criteria. Otherwise its a little overwhelming.
  7:16am
Chuck:

Cheese goes with fruitcup!
  7:16am
Dave B:

Young MC - Bust A Move
  7:19am
kath:

holy glockenspiel!
  7:24am
Chuck:

Ah! Lesley and Petula, two of my favorite cheese flavors!
  7:27am
kath:

aaaaaaahhhhhhh, The Velvet Fog! Ilove my Mel!
  7:27am
Parq:

Well, I see I've arrived in mid-cheese.
  7:28am
kath:

hip-deep!
  7:28am
Chuck:

Ever hear Mel's rendition of Donovan's "Sunshine Superman", Kath? It's terrific!
  7:28am
Dave B:

Rockenspiel's and the Golden Smog - two Flintstones cross references...
  7:30am
kath:

@Chuck, just queued it up for later, thanks!
  7:31am
Dave B:

Hey Meghan - how about a "Rejects" show? All the stuff that gets cut?
  7:31am
kath:

Oh, I used to love those as a kid, Ann Margrock, Rock Hudstone, etc..
  7:33am
kath:

Did you guys check that Mel Torme album name?? "Cocktail Mix 2 - Martini Madness " Ha! Love it!
  7:33am
Meghan:

oh god.... that is why we will revisit themes, due to the fact that a lot get tossed! Just figured I haven't run out of themes as of yet! And you all thought this couldn't last! mwuahahahahaha
  7:34am
kath:

X, is that Exene Cervenka?? I vaguely do recall from the 80's.
  7:34am
Meghan:

and John Doe too!
  7:35am
kath:

I think I need an 'Oh, my aching back" theme.
  7:37am
Dave B:

Carey Granite
Stoney Curtis....

And Meg, perhaps you could find it in your heart to finally play that unmentionable band. There is a song on a 1987 release of their's that would fit in the "move" theme...

I'll shut up now.
  7:38am
Chuck:

You should get hold of the Ultra Lounge series, Kath. I've got 18 volumes of it. Everything from Mel to Martin Denny and beyond! I love it!
  7:39am
Billy Jam:

hey Meghan - this is one of my fave songs by my fave groups...love it!
  7:40am
kath:

@db, heavens to murgatroyd even.....
  7:40am
Meghan:

I think you picked out your next song for the Hoof and Mouth then Billy!
  7:40am
kath:

@db, cloud me bud.
  7:41am
Chuck:

You wouldn't be refering to "Prime Mover" by chance, Dave? hehe...
  7:42am
Dave B:

Lemme see what I can do Kath.
  7:43am
Dave B:

@Chuck - I might be... But I never said it!
  7:43am
kath:

hehe @Chuck
  7:45am
kath:

@db, I can just see you, skinny tie, some pomade and a shining shaker of some tart confection serving up the pubs & chubs, swingin' style!
  7:45am
Chuck:

I played "Time Stand Still" on a WVKR show here a while back.
  7:46am
Parq:

Six minutes to coffee ...
  7:47am
Dave B:

The liquor helps me think - Jim Lahey
  7:52am
rick:

Megan, your ability to come up with themes is quite impressive. This is one of your best. How about Rosemary Clooney's Come-On-A-My House?
  7:52am
kath:

Can we start the Move theme on the UTP FB page?
  7:54am
jeff p:

looks like a great list so far this week!
  7:54am
Meghan:

aww Thanks Rick! Damn! I forgot Rosemary Clooney! I was singing that song too.... damn it! Grrrr... Next Home theme I guess... *grumbles*

@Kath- Go for it!
  7:56am
Dave B:

On the acronym, which is correct?

I always use UWTP even though it might be incorrect

For me UTP = unshielded twisted pair, ethernet cabling...
  7:56am
Chuck:

Nurse Diesel says Jeff P must report to her bedroom closet for discipline because he's so late! Hope you've got your lederhosen handy, Jeff!
  7:57am
jeff p:

dammit....
  7:57am
Meghan:

*giggles*
  8:01am
kath:

oh, ya, right, sorry! Re UTP. I hear that around here with the phones, etc.

Well folks, I gotta run and wake the seeping child and get on with my fruitcups, etc. Nice show; Later... can't wait til next week!
  8:01am
Dave B:

@Kath - watch out for Sloppy Joe!
  8:01am
Elwyn:

@Dave B:
You are such a lovable dork. :-)

I've been really distracted from this board and studying tonight... I'vebeen purging my photos from Facebook.
  8:02am
Chuck:

Ta Kath! It's gonna be a nice day, enjoy it!
  8:04am
kath:

Purge away, but they will forever remain in the FB domain! (@Elwyn)
  8:05am
Parq:

This BFaith so reminds me of my teen years. That's not always a good thing, but this song is too good to have bad associations attached to it.
  8:05am
Elwyn:

I love this song.

@Kath:
Arg! Really? I don't have any incriminating pictures. I'm just uncomfortable with my private info up.
  8:07am
Dave B:

@Elwyn - I've been told the etymology of my name = "beloved"

As for privacy of stuff on the 'book, just lock things down. I think I have some posts on how to limit who can see what...
  8:10am
Elwyn:

Did I recommend this Neil song?

I <3 "Ragged Glory"... but not so much that I'd talk really loudly at a Neil concert during "Like a Hurricane" - something a drunk jerk did when I was recording the show last year. I wanted to punch that guy out.

David = name of the first great king in the Old Testament of the Bible. I can't remember anything else off the top of my head.
Definitely checkout the Pixies song "Dead" which is about David lusting after Bathesheba and arranging the death of her husband to cover up his affair with her.
  8:11am
Meghan:

No you didn't Elwyn! Amazing huh?! it was a request from Jeff.... not Jeff P.
  8:12am
Dave B:

GFRR coming up?

pleeease?
  8:14am
Elwyn:

Tonight has been a pretty awesome show. I really wish I could drop in from the start more often.
  8:14am
Michael:

Hi Meghan! Today is the last day of Shavuot (a two-day holiday that commemorates the receipt by the Jews of the Torah).
  8:15am
chicky:

shavoo-ot hoiday

chicky, israel
  8:15am
Parq:

Shavuot
  8:15am
Elwyn:

Dang it! Christians should be forced to observe all the Jewish holidays.
  8:16am
Dave B:

Every time I ask a colleague of mine at work, he points me over here:

http://www.jewfaq.org

BTW - he's out the past two days
  8:17am
Chuck:

Jesus was Jewish, right?
  8:17am
Parq:

Elwyn, if it means more days off, I'm all about it.
  8:18am
Meghan:

Yay, thanks everyone! That explains why he was not here for the past 2 days!
  8:19am
chicky, tel aviv:

it's the holiday of the cheese-cake. and kids throwing water when we were kids.
  8:20am
Dave B:

I dunno, my colleague has to use up personal vacation days to remain observant. And not all the holidays are happy ones.

Where's Jessica the cantankerous Jew? I'd like to hear her opinion!
  8:20am
Meghan:

Now that sounds like a fun holiday!
  8:22am
Chuck:

There are soooo many versions of this song, Meghan. Why this one?
  8:22am
Meghan:

She wouldn't even know that today was a holiday. Nor would my Jeff. Bad Jews.... I feel like all my jewish friends are never in the know of the holidays, besides the major ones since they have to call home and what not...
  8:23am
Meghan:

I have always love Eric Burdon's voice... so that is why that one! I think that version has such a wonderful soulful sound
  8:24am
Elwyn:

I always love listening to the Trogg's tape. :-)

Has everyone else heard it?
  8:25am
Dave B:

"Grandpa, Jimmy shaid I waz prejudisch"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBJXtTIbDTo

This always makes me snicker...
  8:25am
Chuck:

I agree! And it fits in a garage rock set perfectly...
  8:33am
messica (bad jew):

i have no clue about those holidays, but i will be cranky about xmas out of principal
  8:33am
Dave B:

hehe!

Morning Sunshine!
  8:34am
Meghan:

hahaha
  8:35am
PMD:

Sigh, I come in to a song that I hear way too many times on the radio... But, I'm sure that will change. Thanks Meghan for future music! :-)
  8:36am
robert (in China):

Sorry I'm late. Looks like I missed a great set.

Could have had the Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest : "It's not a house, it's a home!"
  8:36am
Chuck:

Wow! Did I dance my face off to this song back in the day! I saw TH at Forest Hills stadium on this tour. They were awesome!!!
  8:36am
Meghan:

Well, if you go to the beginning, there is the other Heads song that you don't hear enough.... I always think of Revenge of the Nerds when i hear this song....
  8:37am
jeff p:

NERRRRRRRRRDS!!!!!!!!!
