A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

This feels like a cross between Todd Rungren and the Cocteau Twins. If you could slide either one, that would be aces. Ciao!

Hello Trouble and hello everyone, I missed a memo. Tuesday is different. A bit bohemian to relax this much so early in the week. I like it.

got plesent music from wfmu
  10:34am
Parq:

@Cecile, re "like a cross between Todd Rungren and the Cocteau Twins" -- I missed the track, but gee, the clothes would really be something.
  10:35am
M.A.D.:

Trouble, thank you for Oumou. You're da bomb.
  10:35am
muvva device:

hey tell me the meaning of wfmu

Parq:

What does WFMU stand for? As a long-time listener, I can answer: just about anything.
  10:47am
Adrian in London:

Right, I've added Beaches of Agnes to my Lovefilm list. You were spot on about Grey gardens; let's see if we can make it two out of two, eh Trouble?!
  10:48am
Cecile:

Compared to when I was growing up? There's been progress.
  10:48am
Parq:

Having said that, I would add that I totally dig Dickdong's interpretation.
  10:48am
Hugh:

How about--FM, Upsala?
  10:49am
Michael from Munich:

Women in Hip Hop music videos are ALWAYS three-dimensional
  10:49am
listener mark:

wfmu -- 'w' for radio stations east of the Rocky Mountains, 'fm' for FM radio, 'U' for Upsalla College, the original holders of the FM radio license. Also WFMU is the place to listen to the best free form radio on the planet.
  10:50am
Cecile:

No they're not. they are two-dimensional. They are projected onto a flat surface.

I don't know why people say "one-dimensional". One dimension is just a point. Even the worst characterization is better than that.
  10:51am
martin from duisburg:

thanks for the boards of canada track. Haven't heard it for so long
  10:51am
Cecile:

Unless, Michael, you are talking about the actual studio. Then, yes, they would be three-dimensional.
  10:51am
trouble:

adrian fancy a wager? make it three for three: watch the gleaners by agnes varda first before you watch the beaches of agnes. have you seen any of her other films: cleo from 5-7, vagabond?
  10:52am
Radio Bear:

Wfmu is the burble of the collective unconscious.
  10:53am
βrian:

Melikes a burble such as this.
  10:54am
aaron in chicago:

one thing grey gardens and the gleaners have in common: both on netflix instant watch
  10:54am
Michael from Munich:

@Cecile Actually I was talking about the depiction of their bodies in Hip Hop videos. Extremely three-dimensional depictions.
  10:57am
Cecile:

Or at least a good approximation of occupying physical space....
  10:58am
M.A.D.:

I was 12 when this Powerman cut was made. Why have I never heard of him? Fantastic.
  11:00am
Adrian in London:

Nope, I don't think I've seen anything by Varda. Shameful, I know. Have you seen a Japanese film called Departures? About a cellist/undertaker. It's lovely.
  11:01am
EpeeduBois:

Powerman sounds like Mark Lane.
  11:04am
M.A.D.:

This Powerman guy sounds like a little Tuxedomoon, early Shriekback, and Peter Murphy's early solo work. Nice.
  11:04am
don:

also like marc garrett in moments. hi everyone and trouble
  11:04am
EpeeduBois:

Ah...its arthur russell
  11:05am
Jennique:

Good morning Trouble! Glad to hear you today, I tuned in late because I FORGOT you were on. Unbelievable. Anyhow I, too, watched the Varda documentary twice. Once to read all the subtitles in french and again for just the sound/sight of french. Great film about her.
  11:08am
Adrian in London:

Films: I also loved I Am Love with Tilda Swinton. Melodramatic but stunning. She's great in it. And I really liked Micmacs, even though I thought it was going to be annoying. It wasn't.
  11:12am
trouble:

oooooh, tilda swinton is one of my fave actors. i am love was a perfect and amazing movie. from the opening scene with the snow on milan rooftops (how unusual) i was hoooked!
  11:16am
M.A.D.:

Que bom! Esta cancao e muito bonito. Viva Tropicalismo.
  11:17am
annie:

i'd love to see that... i may have to get a library card and get it from them
  11:18am
Adrian in London:

If nothing else, I Am Love made me hungry!
  11:20am
D:

Tilda Swinton is a total babe. I will have to check out I Am Love.
  11:21am
dc pat:

thanks for the film talk folks. I needed some ideas.
  11:22am
ffrr:

I Am Love was punctuated with exceptional music by John Adams. On a completely different note, I recommend 'Greenberg' and 'Gentlemen Broncos', the latter is insanely hilarious.
  11:23am
D:

The one who does all of the percussion music or the opera one?
  11:24am
Cecile:

I have that, I haven't seen it yet.
Although I've seen many a clip of Jemaine Clement as Dr. Ronald Chevalier.
  11:25am
ffrr:

John Adams, both opera & percusive composer.
  11:27am
Cecile:

ffrr, Broncos was one of the most polarizing movies I've heard about in a while. The reviews were terrible, but every critic who liked it became a enthusisatic champion for it. I have to respect that, and not just because I'm a FOTC completist.
  11:28am
Parq:

That was a nifty version of "Dreamboat", but not quite as good as Bugs Bunny's in "Gorilla My Dreams".
  11:29am
ffrr:

I was thinking the same thing, Parq.
  11:30am
stu:

used to listen to and pledge to Upsala's FMU way way back when....was way cool in 1969 ! has only gotten better! and a burble of the collective sub con! Trouble has one beautiful surprise after another, every week Cheers Trub
  11:39am
seang:

good morning folks! just got back from festivals acadiens et creoles in lafayette--everything sounds cajun to me now
  11:42am
Adrian in London:

There's a great Tilda film directed by Robert Lepage, called (Googles furiously) Possible Worlds.
  11:45am
M.A.D.:

Trouble, you be doin' a fab yob.

Next week, could you spin some Timi Yuro? Bless.
  11:46am
trouble:

sounds intriguing adrian, i will see if netflix can add that to my queque.
  11:53am

i have to rely upon youtube... but i did find a really great dennis hopper flick "tracks"...
