  3:46am
Julie:

actually a friend kept telling me about that band and I hadn't had a chance to listen, so I was motivated.

Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Hi Julie! I'm on vacation in Thailand so I can listen to you LIVE at 4:47 pm here in the jungle outside of Lampang! Loving your past shows and THIS one! I can't believe I just missed "The Man For All Seasons" and "Persephone"!

I love the Kinks as well--gotta say I love Ray for his sophisticated soul and rock star attitude. Dave deserves praise for working hard at becoming their lead guitarist when he didn't play at all when the band first formed.
  4:52am
Julie:

Hello Matt in Thailand! Hope you're having a great time! I'm wicked envious.
  4:56am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Joe McG was also envious! The food will make me disappointed in any Thai food I get back in the States!

Saint Etienne "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" 1991? Ever hear the Mint Juleps' version from 1986? 80s Brit pop soul.
  5:01am
Julie:

Ike, who is often on the board, went to Thailand too and posted many pictures of the food. I hear the beaches are great too.
  5:01am
Julie:

No, I don't think I know that one. Will have to seek it out!
  5:04am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

I'm not in the beaches area, but I have so many great pics I'll need to start a Panoramio account so people can just look at them on the 'webs (and Google Earth too!) I'm glad you finally got a WFMU email, but do you know how to enable these playlists so we can comment after the show ends?
  5:06am
Julie:

I can leave comments open. Didn't figure anyone would comment after the fact.
  5:09am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Oh yeah, us "Archivists" do all the time! Esp for night shows like Surface Noise and even popular daytime shows--you don't have to leave them on forever, but at least a few days so new commenters can leave a message.
  5:10am
Julie:

Okay will do!
  5:13am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Many thanks! :)

Thanks also for all these bands I've learned from you! Black Tape, Saint Etienne, and that perennial favorite Aphrodite's Child! (Though I might have first heard them from Brian T..)
  5:14am
Julie:

my pleasure!
  5:22am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Wow, interesting first take on "Heart of Glass"! Though the title "Once I Had A Love" and slower beat gives a whole different perception to the song, and since this was their first hit (I think) this could have affected Blondie's subsequent releases.
  5:23am
Julie:

Yeah the one on Parallel Lines was always described as "the disco version," made me wonder where the non-disco one was.
  5:29am
Gary:

Morning Jules! I'm Awake but I have to get ready to catch the train. Can't wait to listen to the archive later today. PS - Digging the picture of Frank and his bride!
  5:30am
Julie:

Hi Gary!! oldies bringin back memories? I took that pic btw ;)
  5:31am
Gary:

Lookinf forward to listening to the original version of "Heart of Glass."
  5:33am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Hi Gary! I think it's actually more typical Blondie than the disco-tinged "Heart of Glass"
  5:39am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

YES! Nena's English-language pre-Nena band!
  5:41am
Julie:

I'm a bit of a Nena nut
  5:43am
Julie:

Well if THIS doesn't wake you up
  5:45am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Ahhhhhhh...got a nice hour of Julie in! There's a great sunset coming up I want to take a pic of, but I will get caught up with this show and last week's! After all, isn't that what work is for :)
  5:46am
Julie:

Enjoy, Matt!
  5:48am
Matt from Springfield in Thailand:

Thanks! Look forward to your shows Julie!

(psst---Nena suggestion: "Nur Getraumt")
  7:37pm
