  12:06pm annie:

  12:07pm Randy:

Nice show Doug and Hi Charlie. Its Randy Glenn K's old friend.
  12:07pm Michael:

tap tap - is this thing on?
  12:07pm jan:

I thought I heard some relationship to the notes heard yesterday and today....but today there is melody.
  12:07pm Lunch Lady:

I want to hear this in fifteen-second bursts, repeating over and over.
  12:07pm Charlie:

Yo Randy! Long time no see. Welcome!
  12:07pm annie:

no early bird this time, :(
  12:08pm don:

you two back to back is the best thing that's happened to friday since urkel
  12:09pm Sara:

Charlie! Hooray!!! My ears are happy already and we're only on track two. So great to have you back on these airwaves...
  12:09pm Hugo:

Checking in at Checkpoint Charlie ...
  12:10pm Charlie:

Nice to be back, Sara! And, Don, I love Urkel!
  12:10pm Bernie:

Argh! You've just come on and I've got to go out.. Best wishes Charlie, will listen in full later!
  12:12pm Charlie:

  12:14pm Randy:

I'll be back a little later on as well.
  12:15pm Charlie:

Well, I'll be here for two hours, anyway
  12:15pm Paul Sherratt:

Java time here ...
  12:16pm Charlie:

Pour me a cup, Paul...
  12:18pm Hugo:

Sounds Finnish to me ...
  12:18pm jan:

Charlie: don't forget to play the women singers that were part of the sample loop yesterday. Sounded quite lovely- if just for a few notes.
  12:18pm Charlie:

Yes Hugo! Finnish!
  12:18pm Gary Mitchell:

Pomus and Shuman are lighting one up to this
  12:19pm Charlie:

Jan, I think those few seconds were from Doug's mp3s
  12:20pm Charlie:

Viva Pomus and Shuman
  12:21pm Drummer Some:

'Tis true, Jan. That weird loop was a purgatory moment capturing one MP3 on the stream segueing into another.
  12:22pm monica:

yo, chaz! let you entertain me.
  12:22pm Katya Oddio:

Such fun to hear you back on WFMU! Welcome back, brotha!
  12:24pm Charlie:

Fun to be back, Katya. Yo, Monica!
  12:26pm Katya Oddio:

My head's confused though, because hearing Charlie on FMU means it's Monday morning
  12:27pm dj scott:

First time hearin' ya,Charlie.Nice variety.
Are you in Doug's basement?
  12:27pm Charlie:

Yeah, but at least you don't have the whole work week ahead of you!
  12:28pm Charlie:

Attic, Scott
  12:33pm Hugo:

Assagai! That's a great album!
  12:35pm trs:

Good to hear.

Set to set
  12:35pm Charlie:

Agreed, Hugo, an old fave of mine.
  12:36pm trs:

In singular and context: http://rhizome.org/editorial/3699
  12:36pm Drummer Some:

The Yoruba-language (at least I believe it is Yoruba) version of Hey Jude on the Assagai LP is monstrous!
  12:37pm ndbob:

heya charlie!
  12:39pm Charlie:

Coming up, trs -- Yes, Hey Jude is great -- and Hi Bob in ND!
  12:41pm ndbob:

A lovely 18 degrees with a wind chill factor of 1 now.
  12:42pm marcury:

Stan Freberg!!!
  12:44pm Charlie:

And I thought Vermont was cold, Bob -- and it's only November! Plug in your car!
  12:51pm Hugo:

Art Blakey! Nothing but the hits? Check out Blakey on Jimmy Smith's "Sermon". 20 minutes of da groove! Phew!
  12:52pm bryce:

charlie, are you doing the front-left & rear-left channels
or front-right & rear-right?
  12:53pm Charlie:

I'm in the back of the theater with a boom box, Bryce, while you'r on stage with your orchester.
  12:55pm bryce:

there must be some mistake. can i get some more bubble bath in the monitors?
  12:56pm ndbob:

ah good one here!
  12:57pm Charlie:

more barn!
  12:58pm bryce:

:)
  1:08pm Charlie:

I vividly remember the first time I heard this Sly song when it came out -- full length, on FM freeform commercial radio, NYC late 60s.
  1:13pm Hugo:

What a coincidence! The pic with the stack of radios on the playlist - the installation was done by Maia Urstad whom I know very well.
  1:15pm trs:

Really, Hugo?

I met her in Halifax when it finally arrived (after security hold ups) there in '06? Great installation.
  1:19pm Hugo:

Yes, my neighbour came along to put the installation together and Maia programmed the players from a computer. I saw and heard it when it was premiered here in Bergen.
  1:19pm Laura L:

Thanks for the old Tipsy favorita!
  1:19pm Charlie:

Looks (sounds?) like a great installation. Reminds me a little of those Nels Cline cassette pieces with an army of people walking through the streets playing prerecorded tapes on boomboxes (it is Nels Cline, right?)
  1:20pm Charlie:

You're quite welcome, LL!
  1:20pm Katya Oddio:

Boom-biddy-boom, indeed! Loving this show, man. So WFMU has 6 streams now? The main feed, Jewish stream, Ubuweb, Rock & Soul, Do or DUI, and Give the Drummer Radio? Not enough hours in the day for all that WFMU wants us to hear. Glad for all the options.
  1:22pm Charlie:

You'll have to listen subliminally in your sleep!
  1:22pm ndbob:

Yep - my music backlog is endless.
  1:24pm trs:

I saw it as part of this http://www.artnews.is/artnews_article.php?no=07_02&is=7

Speaking of wintery cold.
  1:24pm Charlie:

Boom-biddy-boom
  1:30pm ndbob:

Looks interesting TRS - never been to Halifax, but i know a few people online from there.
  1:31pm jan:

Charlie - I sent a boom box photo from the 80s to your email.
  1:31pm Hugo:

Jana Winderen is also doing interesting work recording and processing nature sound - inluding underwater sound. And they're both on the Freq Out comps.
  1:36pm Hugo:

Jana at work - searching for those really deep sounds:

http://www.janawinderen.com/images/janawinderen_300dpi_rgb.jpg
  1:37pm jill:

funk yeah.
  1:43pm Charlie:

Funky as you wanna be.
  1:44pm Gary Mitchell:

gentle noise.. purr purr
  1:45pm ndbob:

hello gary!
  1:46pm Charlie:

And now, noisy noise!
  1:47pm Gary Mitchell:

NDB you rock
  1:52pm jan:

The couple with the boom box was photographed om 42nd St, NYC in the 1980s.
  1:54pm Charlie:

Definitely of a time and place, Jan.
  1:57pm Gary Mitchell:

this has hit written all over it!
  1:57pm jan:

when and where were the other boom box holders shown on your playlist photographed?
  1:59pm Charlie:

I found 'em all on the web, Jan, no sources credited.
  2:00pm Gary Mitchell:

good show, i'm definitely awake now
  2:01pm ndbob:

great show charlie! - i'll catch the part i missed on the archive
  2:02pm Katya Oddio:

Another fave boom pic:
http://newartistradio.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Ghetto-Boom-Box.jpg
  2:02pm Charlie:

There's a great book (can't remember name right now) of all pictures of hiphop kids on the streets of NYC, in their velour sweats and matching caps -- lovely book
  2:02pm Katya Oddio:

Fan-freakin-tastic show, Charlie! Thank you! Happy weekend starter!
  2:02pm Charlie:
