Listener comments!

  9:03pm
Joe:

vvvvvvelcome back to the sub-arctic
  9:04pm
Mike McGuire:

Is there a more powerful "power pop" song out there? I think not! Rock on!
  9:05pm
Big Plastic Head:

Popping in to say welcome back
  9:06pm
efd:

thanks BPH, MM and Joe! I appreciate the early comments!
  9:07pm
cheri:

evan--great to have you back,,how was your vacay?? btw i'm really sorry for pestering you 2 weeks ago,,no hard feelings??
  9:08pm
Mike McGuire:

First time listener here ... enjoying...thank you! And wow...I'm honing up on my MATH skills as well!
  9:09pm
Joe:

hey, now I know a good Elton John song, besides the ones everybody knows. Looks like Im gonna read that article.
  9:10pm
efd:

Hi Cheri, vacation was great, thanks.

Mike, welcome to the show - thanks for checking it out!
  9:12pm
Mike McGuire:

Chloe on the Fox album has always been an EJ favorite of mine
  9:12pm
Sybil:

Good evening EFD and Funketeers!
I may not be able to tear myself away from my work to post again, but I must say hello.
Oh, who am I kidding. I probably won't be able to tear myself back to my work.
Cold enough for ya, Joe?
  9:12pm
SF Spike:

Ha! I love it when oddball Elton pops up on my MP3 player. Today's surprise track was "Sweet Painted Lady" on my walk to work. He's always ripe for rediscovery, and I'd forgotten about this Empty Sky stuff.
  9:13pm
Sybil:

I actually like quite a number of Elton John songs that were never hits.

Not that I can think of any right now.
  9:14pm
Sybil:

What is this, the "inspired by" show?
  9:15pm
Mike McGuire:

Excuse me....where can I bcome a friend of yours on FB the Evan?
  9:15pm
john:

Hey Evan--welcome back!

That was an awfully interesting thread on Sir Elton going there for a while.
  9:16pm
Mike McGuire:

Doesn't like that "work" is gonna get done tonight Sybil...ove when that happens!
  9:16pm
efd:

Sybil, the "inspired bys" are coming to a screeching halt after this song. Thanks for checking in, nice to hear from you.

SF Spike, thanks for the geographic identifier, lest we think you were a different Spike! Empty Sky is great, I'd forgotten how much I liked that album.
  9:17pm
Mike McGuire:

opps..that should have read "look" instead of "like"...my bad
  9:17pm
Richard from Venezuela:

glad you are back evan. Greetings.
  9:18pm
efd:

Mike, just search for Evan Davies and you'll find me.

Hi John! thanks for the welcome back (and thanks to you too, Richard!)
  9:19pm
SF Spike:

Yes, please don't associate me with THAT Spike. I've been having a weird hankering to hear Captain Fantastic again, sold the vinyl of that one years ago. Dumb move.
  9:26pm
Big Plastic Head:

I thought the band name said STEAK for a second. Is there a band named Steak? If not I CALL DIBS!!
  9:29pm
Big Plastic Head:

Dammit. Taken.
  9:29pm
Mike McGuire:

Is it time for FUNK?
  9:40pm
Mike McGuire:

Do you take requests? If so...love to hear "Stone Cold Sober" by Crawler...tia
  9:42pm
Sybil:

That new theme (new to me anyway) is pretty fantastic.

And yes, I am working. Dang these evening classes anyway. That's why it took me so long to get around to this comment.
  9:42pm
efd:

@Mike you know, I actually have that single! At home.
I will take/consider requests, but in the interest of managing expectations I don't often get to them.
  9:43pm
efd:

@Sybil Yes, that theme song rules! Props to Adam WarRock!
  9:48pm
Jessica:

Aw, Evan Funk Davies, the gracious radiophonic anti-Let Me Google That For You. Glad to hear you [and to be] back.
  9:51pm
efd:

Hi Jessica, it's been a while! Nice to see you here!
  9:52pm
Holly in NC:

Yay Los Reactors! Listening to you,Evan, for solace and anxiety management while alternately listening to my Blue Devils have a HORRID, HORRID start against the evil Tar Heels. Thanks for being here for me ;-)
  10:07pm
efd:

HI Holly, glad I can help out in some small way. One of my brothers went to Duke and his wife went to UNC, so that's a rivalry I tend to stay out of! :) (Although in truth neither of them are big college sports fans anyway.)
  10:08pm
Big Plastic Head:

That Liminanas track sounded a bit like Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle
  10:11pm
autodidactic:

Is that a mellotron?!?
  10:13pm
efd:

auto-d, the cd credits just say "keyboards," so I'm not sure if it's the real deal or synthesized.
  10:15pm
Mellodramatic:

Ha! And I was sitting here thinking I'm the only one left who's a sucker for Mellotron.
  10:19pm
BK Mickey:

Fergus and Geronimo are impressive live. They were great opening for Tyvek a couple weeks ago @ Mercury.
  10:20pm
Holly in NC:

Very much enjoying the new Steve Wynn. Evan, feel free to take sides - I live in a house divided. In fact, I live in a Yankees - Red Sox household ... and I'm not on your preferred side.

But I have many other pleasing qualities. And that Beach Fossils song was great!
  10:25pm
Joe:

Fergus and Geronimo are playing a basement I frequent and I'm conflicted about attending.
  10:27pm
Sybil:

fear of basements?
  10:28pm
Joe:

itsa spooky down there!

no actually I'm just not sure I like them. That song was good though.
  10:28pm
Jessica:

You mean Gere"Jerry" Fenelly, right? Most awesomest roommate of my still-extant circa-80s memory? Late of 88 Majick, Anvil Chorus, and Specimen? It's gotta be. No one rocks like Gere.
  10:30pm
efd:

I dunno, Jessica, the blurb said "Jaime" - I just double-checked. Maybe a relative?
  10:32pm
timophonic:

Isla Mueres - wonderful island - great sunsets
  10:35pm
efd:

tim, and how!! I actually got some (good-natured) abuse for posting so many sunset pics after I got back.
  10:36pm
heath:

Sorry but Tortured tougues = tortured ears
  10:37pm
Holly in NC:

On the other hand, I just dl'd tortured tongues.
  10:38pm
efd:

And that's WFMU in a nutshell right there!
  10:47pm
heath:

@holly in nc wasting bandwidth and time by supprting duke
  10:49pm
Holly in NC:

62-60 - Evan, if ever a request were to be filled, the Skulls 'Nervous Breakdown' from live @ the masque w/b lovely,

@Heath - ppff! ;-)
  10:50pm
osvi:

Man, EFD, getting me through the week! Nice beats. Hey, who needs to know what played!
  10:51pm
calzone!:

Welcome back EFD! Questions: have you ever counted the 45's in your collection, and how many rooms do they take up?
  10:52pm
Sybil:

Now, play nice, kids. Don't make me have to stop this car!
  10:54pm
Holly in NC:

?? ppff is my shorthand for a good-natured sticking out of the tongue. juvenile, yet friendly. a razz.
  10:56pm
Sybil:

The was an imaginary ;) at the end of my last comment, Holly.
  10:57pm
autodidactic:

Evan, I have to say, just in case you were wondering, that I'm liking most of the songs withOUT mellotrons as well.
  10:57pm
guppy:

oye!
  11:00pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans :)
Hi Evan :) Glad that you got favorable news with your mom. Hope that only more good news follows!
  11:00pm
calzone!:

FYI...your accuplaylist is looking weird right now Evan. User error, or gremlins?
  11:00pm
Sybil:

I think Myelin Sheaths is my new favorite band name.

Another late comment, courtesy of my insane schedule.
  11:01pm
efd:

what up guppy!
  11:01pm
efd:

calzone, looks OK to me. what are you seeing?
I don't think i'll have time to answer your question til after the ticket giveaway
  11:02pm
cheri:

  11:07pm
Danne D:

Grrr...starbucks internet has lesser signal than the ap on my palm pre. switching back. (On my laptop today though so yes I can read the replies ;o)
  11:09pm
Mike McGuire:

It has been an almost religious event listening to your show tonight...this will be a regular event in my life from now on...ty Evan
  11:09pm
Danne D:

Holland does have a lot of dikes.
  11:10pm
Danne D:

  11:15pm

  11:17pm
Holly in NC:

Peace, love, & 79-73! Thank y'all for getting me through the game, inadvertently or not. Evan, superb show.

@ mike mcguire - yes! such a fave. see also the sid presley experience
  11:18pm
Danne D:

Can't wait to hear you play for real at the Hoof and Mouth Finale Evan :)

Mike - have you listened to the station before? Unlike fundraising marathons that suck, the FMU one is something special and fun - it starts the 28th and goes for 2 weeks. It ends with a 40-or-so song spectacular feature scores of FMU personalities playing and singing yesterday and today hits and misses.
  11:19pm
Mike McGuire:

wfmu virgin here danne...
  11:21pm
Mike McGuire:

had been on the wfmu internet site before but never listened "live" till tonight on my new droid phone...hooked up to my stereo...sounding awesome BTW :)
  11:22pm
cheri:

  11:25pm
Mike McGuire:

wicked guitar work on this one
  11:26pm
Danne D:

could never steal you from Evan cheri :)
Besides you got like a million valentines I bet.
Good night :)

@Mike - dig on in - there's about 10 years of archives of pretty much all the shows on FMU. Listen at different times and you'll hear any type of music imaginable. Don't like what you hear? Check back in a couple hours. Too many departure points to mention but Terre T's show is awesome 3-6 pm eastern time on Saturday, Bill Kelly's teenage wasteland is excellent 3-5pm on Sunday and of course the FMU prodigy Keili who's Beastin' the Airwaves show is on at 6-9am on Sunday :) But seriously that's but a sample - throw a dart and you'll hit a different brand of goodness on FMU.
  11:27pm
heath:

@mike maguire agree on the wfmu app

@holly in nc next time....(slopes off in the darkness)
  11:27pm
Danne D:

Wanna here edison cylinders - FMU has a show with them on Tuesdays 8-9pm. :)

http://www.wfmu.org/recentarchives.php
  11:28pm
Mike McGuire:

thanks danne...you better quit now or i'll be asking you to be my valentine too...lol
  11:29pm
Danne D:

and the topper is that the station is 100% listener supported. No NPR money, No Goverment money. No foundations etc.

lol Mike :)
  11:29pm
Sybil:

What doesn't FMU have?!

All that life requires is here.
  11:30pm
Sybil:

Well, barring food, shelter, and that stuff.
  11:31pm
autodidactic:

I always thought the topper was that all these great djs are volunteers.
  11:31pm
Holly in NC:

OK, I am now TOTALLY dancing all around my room, just like back in 80-urp ..
  11:31pm
Mike McGuire:

i'll be listening from now on for sure...thanks to all and Evan...keep on rocking in the free world....birth, school, work....death!
  11:32pm
Mike McGuire:

outta here
  11:33pm
Danne D:

Anyhow, I'll save more of exhorting and extolling for during the marathon in about 3 weeks :)

The history of the station is amazing in and of itself though and is worth a read.

And the people really are amazing around the station. Brilliant folks, many who are tops in their field in their "day job", yet it's very open and respectful of even a shlub like me who has no such pedigree.

:)
  11:33pm
Danne D:

(Mike is an FMU natural as he got 1/2 of Nardwuar's signature ending even without even realizing it :)

Gave a good night Mike!
  11:33pm
Mike McGuire:

i don't care for barring food anyways sybil...
  11:35pm
Sybil:

Sorry, Mike, Britishism for "except for food, shelter,..."

Clearly I'm working too hard.
  11:36pm
Sybil:

And the best thing about the FMU Marathon? It nearly always coincides with my birthday!
  11:36pm
Mike McGuire:

just messing with ya...i knew what ya meant...lame joke. on my part..lol
  11:37pm
Thomas Jefferson's Ghost:

Belated, but welcome back efd!
  11:38pm
Danne D:

Happy impending Birthday Sybil :) When's the big day?
  11:39pm
Sybil:

No worries, Mike! And welcome to FMUdom!
  11:39pm
Danne D:

Hooray for the mail slaves!
  11:39pm
Sybil:

I dunno Danne... When is the Marathon? :)
  11:39pm
Joe:

that horn makes the papercuts totally worth it
  11:39pm
Danne D:

Hopefully I will be phone-slaving for EFD for the marathon :)
  11:40pm
Danne D:

2/28 - 3/13
  11:40pm
Brendan:

Word. Got a shout out from efd. My hours spent stickering marathon forms today is now worth it that much more. I don't know if that previous sentence made any sense grammatically.
  11:40pm
Sybil:

What could be finer?
  11:41pm
Sybil:

Uh-oh, I'm going to have to move my birthday this year.
  11:44pm
Danne D:

8( consider it a 2-week pre-celebration then, Sybil
  11:44pm
Sybil:

True story: I just tried to figure out how old I'm going to be... and I COULDN't DO IT.

Guess what I do professionally. I'm going to go hang my head in shame. And then call my mother up and ask her how old I am.
  11:48pm
Voter:

Is Sybil a government accountant?
  11:48pm
Danne D:

Are you a professional astrologer Sybil? That would require you knowing your birthdate ;)
  11:50pm
Sybil:

I do appear to be very qualified for that job, don't I, dear Voter?

I find the "math" problems we have to do cruel and unusual punishment. It is a tribute to EFD that I struggle through them to post comments.

But no, alas, I'm a mathematician. I do know my birthdate though. I think.

(I actually always forget my son's birthdate, to his great amusement.)
  11:54pm
efd:

Sybil, your efforts are appreciated!

thanks everyone for your comments and your welcomes back! See you next week!
  11:56pm
autodidactic:

O no, it's already midnight?!?
  11:56pm
Sybil:

Arrivederci!
  11:57pm
Danne D:

Have a good night everyone :)
Thanks for another great show Evan :)
  11:59pm
Starting with the 70's:

How can '81 be the EFD sweet-spot if every show starts with the 70's, and many strive to meet CC laws?
  12:00am
Euler:

Good ;luck, Sybil!
  12:00am
Holly in NC:

Query for any professional astrologers - how do you cope with wildly premature/induced births? Always been curious.
And now I've been told that if I were born in a different latitude, I'd be born under an unpronounceable & hard to spell sign with hitherto uncodifed traits ... perhaps SUPERPOWERS???!!
I could only hope :-)
  12:01am
Sybil:

Hi Euler! I'm a big fan!
  12:02am
Aharon:

Bah! Relegated to the archive!
