Matt from Springfield:

Happy Valentine's Day, Julie! I didn't want to miss out on your Valentine's show, that pic says it all! Did you make that?
  4:23am
Julie:

Hi Matt! No I didn't. I had an even grislier picture, but I decided against using it.
  4:24am
Matt from Springfield:

The Danielle Dax "Pop Eyes"? You made it sound as if it was something borderline illegal! I was underwhelmed when I looked it up.
  4:24am
coalhard:

i tried to pipe wfmu music into nasa--hit the wrong satallite--now russia has opened missle silos--did you know they have missle named FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE ?
  4:26am
Julie:

  4:29am
Julie:

Nah it was just gross
  4:30am
?:

the most challenging program on WFMU
  4:31am
Matt from Springfield:

Probably for the best. AND, this one is the red, black and white of your playlist.

Natalie! This was all over the airwaves in '97, this is probably one song of your show we BOTH heard when it first came out!
  4:31am
Julie:

Ha I know that's not a compliment.
  4:32am
Matt from Springfield:

Uh, ?, I could refer you off the top of my head to SEVERAL playlists more challenging to even hardcorde FMUers...
  4:33am
Julie:

I've never been one to shy away from a song I like because it was popular.
  4:37am
?:

more in a broad sense i mean. I am less intolerant now, probably a good thing so it's a compliment.
  4:38am
coalhard:

did anybody watch jeopardy tonite--the computer WATSON competed--(you can watch next two nights around 7:30)--the computer tied a human--FASINATING!!
  4:39am
Julie:

Then thank you, Question Mark!
  4:39am
Julie:

Once the computer tied the human, what did it do with him?
  4:41am
coalhard:

MADE HIM GO THE FUTURE IN THE NUDE SO HE COULD STOP THE PRICE IS RIGHT---kidding
  4:46am
Julie:

Kidding? And I SO believed you!
  4:49am
coalhard:

nasa stopped the pictures from the comet--some say they saw ufo--stopped transmission????--mystery that
  4:51am
Matt from Springfield:

Black Tape for a Blue Girl!
@CH: Try piping WFMU to those UFOs--we could use an extraterrestrial audience!
  4:51am
ausmanx:

i think NASA reads Julie's comments list, so they discovered Coal was watching and blocked the pictures just to piss him off. good evening, Miss Julie, sorry I'm late to school...
  4:52am
Julie:

Not to mention some of that extraterrestrial cash
  4:53am
Julie:

No worries, ausman, you'll have to catch up later
  4:54am
coalhard:

i don't get no respect why just the other day my wife said are you looking at the moon? i said no --so she turned around
  4:58am
Kostas:

  4:59am

Great voice like kostas says
  5:01am
Matt from Springfield:

  5:02am
Julie:

  5:04am
coalhard:

getting late--- my eiffel tower is leaning here on east coast-- us.
  5:05am
Julie:

AHEM TMI
  5:08am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, original old-school Bacharach. I was surprised the 80s version by Naked Eyes wasn't the first.
  5:08am
Julie:

M e too! Love both.
  5:09am
pierre:

aarh i love this song. and this is my first time on dark night of the soul...
i'll definitevely come back, its 11.00 am in Paris
  5:10am
coalhard:

thanks julie--FANTASTIC SHOW--GOOD FRIENDS --LOVED IT!!!
  5:10am
pierre:

café and croissant !
  5:10am
Julie:

Bonjour, Pierre!
  5:11am
ausmanx:

as a proud Australian, may I please request no more Livvie. the best Australian version of this song was by a band called the Reels - very wonderful - if you can track it down some time...
  5:11am
pierre:

Bonjour Julie : )
(aaah… the voice)
  5:13am
Julie:

I haven't played Livvy in months! And I love her. So, sorry!
  5:15am
pierre:

i don't like to request much, so this is not one, but is Robin Macnamara's "Lay A Little Lovin' On Me" a perfect Valentine's song ?
  5:17am
Julie:

Now why did I just hear her name today? I don't really know that song, sorry.
  5:19am
Matt from Springfield:

I noticed I missed my guys, THE CHURCH in the first hour. "When You Were Mine" is a good Valentine's song, though I was thinking of "Someone Special" as the perfect Church song for today's show. Plus it has a good twangy-sitar like pedal effect on its guitar!
  5:21am
Julie:

I am just getting to know The Church, Matt
  5:23am
pierre:

there you can listen to it (carefull - its romantic) and dance like in that video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjeSuQo3FC4
  5:24am
Matt from Springfield:

I remember you saying The Church was a "male vocal" band you were trying to get in to. I just sent you some of them! The WFMU library probably has their main releases (I know they have 2009's "Untitled #23") so I sent you stuff I got at their merch table!
  5:24am
Julie:

Yeah I'm going away from romance here..no happy love please!
  5:25am
Matt from Springfield:

WOW! Bananarama doing the SEX PISTOLS?! Most astonishing track of tonight!
  5:25am
Matt from Springfield:

Several FMU shows would probably love to play that one!
  5:27am
Julie:

Awesome isn't it!
  5:28am
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, the La's. Only one album from 1990, but this Liverpool band was pretty influential (note Sixpence None The Richer's cover of this. "There she blows" is a heroin ref, when asked why the Christian band would cover that, they replied that it's just a great song!)
  5:29am
Julie:

Oh I forgot about that cover! Will have to dig Sixpence out eventually :)
  5:30am
ausmanx:

The La's are the greatest one album band in musical history. And there's STILL talk that there will eventually be a second album... and it will be majestic.
  5:30am
Matt from Springfield:

And now this! This "cha-cha" version wouldn't have fit well into the existing Rubber Soul album, but it's an interesting choice of performance.
  5:32am
Julie:

Matt, we don't seem to HAVE the Rubber Soul album! I was crushed!
  5:34am
Matt from Springfield:

Bummers! I have a pretty good copy of RS on vinyl, but it's an original British pressing (i.e. the GOOD kind with the original tracks) so I can't donate that to you unless I find another!
  5:34am
dale:

sleepless upstate and no milk today is a great way to wake up.
  5:36am
coalhard:

hey guys i learn so much from your info--and hope it never stops --let julie have her fun
  5:39am
Julie:

Fun is nearly over, coal!
  5:41am
Matt from Springfield:

Fun is never over here, it is only hits "pause" for a week! (And with the Archives, even that's not necessary!)

Tragic Kingdom! Another contemporary album of mine.
  5:42am
Matt from Springfield:

And to those of you keeping track of Gwen's transformations, this is "original blonde" Gwen Stefani era!
  5:43am
ausmanx:

ah, there was one other awesome one album band to rival The La's... The Shop Assistants! and I Don't Wanna Be Friends With You would have been great on this show!
  5:44am
Julie:

Gwen is awesome. And she got Gavin.
  5:46am
coalhard:

is skynet here already-i'm goin back under my rock--there is a nice bolder across from me julie
  5:46am
Julie:

Frangry is obsessed with their offspring.
  5:46am
Matt from Springfield:

"Just A Girl" is from Tragic Kingdom--full of Blondie/early New Wave influence, highly rec for the show!
  5:47am
Julie:

There's a lot of great stuff on that album!
  5:49am
Matt from Springfield:

So Frangry's the obsessed one, then!

Bananarama sidetracked me earlier, but I just sent you CD-Rs of merch-table Church items I thought the station wouldn't have. One is a recent cover of "Hounds of Love" (in ref to The Moviegoers last week), and the other is "Isidore", a Steve Kilbey side project I thought "clicks" with the show well, so I thought you might like.
  5:50am
Julie:

Sweet! I've never gotten mail!
  5:52am
Matt from Springfield:

Not even after Clay "solicited" Valentines for you? ;)

If you're not familiar with The Church in general, I would rec "Remote Luxury" 1982, "Heyday" 1985, and "Starfish" 1988 (with "Under the Milky Way"! Used in Donny Darko).
  5:53am
Matt from Springfield:

LOVE STINKS! Everyone now, LOVE STINKS!
  5:53am
Julie:

Nope. I just have to see all of Joe Belock's mail! Boy he gets a lot.
  5:54am
Julie:

I put it off and put it off..and in the end..well...here ya go
  5:54am
Julie:

Thanks so much for tuning in guys! See ya next week!
  5:55am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Julie! Have a good day!
  5:56am
coalhard:

i'm off to bed ----don't you'all take this show for granite
