Listener comments!

  9:06pm
ADM:

For a second there I was very confused. There are two GODZ.
  9:07pm
efd:

yes, these are the Ohio Godz (as you no doubt figured out by now)
  9:09pm
ADM:

Allmusic says "not to be confused"
  9:13pm
efd:

and yet you were! :)
  9:16pm
ADM:

I never forget to look for Haackula.
  9:19pm
Frisco Squid:

I was first familiar with the 79 Godz - still remember seeing an ad for the album on the back of Circus magazine. Discovery of the ESP-Disk Godz initially confused the hell outta me too.
  9:19pm
efd:

f. squid, that was the path I took as well!
  9:25pm
john:

Makes three of us! But as I am in pretty much eternal awe of ESP-Disk, I got past it.
  9:47pm
Joe B:

hope Curt Gowdy is registered at Sound Exchange!
  9:48pm
efd:

Ha!
  9:51pm
Louis:

Curt Gowdy, what a hack. I mail-ordered that LP after the '73 season, they sent me what I thought was a demo cassette, instead. After all these years I see this is how they actually released the album!
  9:52pm
john:

There's STILL nothing that brings me back to that happy place like a Cleon Jones highlight reel...
  9:53pm
andy s:

wow. i grew up in cincinnati in the seventies, so this is really nostalgic. do you remember this stuff firsthand?
  9:54pm
Joe B:

firsthand? yes! I still can hear the Rose Blows chants at Shea Stadium!
  9:56pm
efd:

I actually remember elements of the '69 series more than '73, strangely -- *really* strangely since I grew up outside Boston.
  9:57pm
efd:

Also, Louis, I'll have to respectfully disagree with your characterization of Curt Gowdy, at least when it comes to broadcasting.
  9:57pm
steve:

Heh...my private space was being invaded by my landlord and his wife. As it happened, Buckner's Bolero was playing just loud enough to really piss the landlord off (he is a die-hard Red Sox fan). Still, what really got his goat was his wife asking why he was so mad. Of course, I had to explain it all in minute detail. Guess I won't see that guy until the rend is due. Also, good thing I"m moving in April
  9:58pm
Kat:

Hoodoo Gurus!
  9:59pm
efd:

See, as a Red Sox fan, "Buckner's Bolero" doesn't make me mad at all - I feel like he's putting the whole thing in context and minimizing that one play as the sole reason the Sox didn't win that year.
  10:01pm
Joe B:

yeah, why would that make him mad? I guess if you are looking for a scapegoat, you don't wanna hear it wasn't just one guy's fault.
  10:02pm
gloopin:

yes
  10:03pm
efd:

what up gloopin!
  10:07pm
andy s:

never really liked the guy, but i had a poster of pete rose in my room when i was a kid. it showed rose trotting around the bases after a a home run after he went after buddy harrelson. (god, how come i remember this shit and not what my girl said last night?) pete rose: very typical dumb german west side cincinnati guy. joe morgan was my man.
  10:07pm
JMD:

Get Metsmerized! Ugh!

  10:09pm
Danne D:

Hey Evan :)
Glad you are playing Baseball Project stuff.

I heard there is a C-list celebrity in the phone room both weeks and an "A"-list celebrity in the phone room week 2 :)
  10:09pm
Danne D:

Sorry I meant "D"-list not "C"-list

Amanda of course begins with an "A" :D
  10:11pm
Danne D:

http://www.filofax.com/

Btw, ladies (and gentlemen) Evan is totally adoptable!
Just sayin'
  10:11pm
Danne D:

you can who the "D" list celebrity is ;o)
  10:16pm
efd:

My sources tell me there is going to be a second "D" list celebrity during week 2 as well!
  10:19pm
ADM:

can you give out again the email to write for volunteering? I might have some free time coming. Also, it's happening from what, Sunday to Sunday? I'm a bad listener.
  10:20pm
Joe B:

to volunteer:

scott (at) wfmu (dot) org
  10:24pm
efd:

thanks Joe.
ADM, the marathon runs for two weeks, starting this Monday morning and ending Sunday night March 13. If you're able to volunteer that would be awesome!
  10:26pm
Danne D:

hmm, I'm stumped Even. I mean Aharon begins with "A" and cheri begins with "C" - ahhhhh but "Disco Diva Cheri" begins with "D" - am i right? :o)
  10:28pm
Danne D:

you take the "wa" out of this song and it sends a very different message...

very cool song though :)
  10:32pm
Danne D:

There's also this kick-ass drummer named Davies that plays with the Hoof N Mouth as well.
  10:34pm
Danne D:

Rantoul is just outside of where I went to college in Illinois :)
  10:36pm
ADM:

email sent. who knew you were a community organizer?
  10:44pm
JMD:

Rocky Burnette! Thank you, EFD. Haven't heard this since it was a hit the first time around. Neat!
  10:44pm
efd:

great, thanks!

Danne, you'll have to wait till week 2 for the surprise reveal of the other "D" list phone volunteer.
  10:44pm
efd:

cool, glad you enjoyed it! The LP version sounded a lot different to me, but maybe it's selective memory.
  10:45pm
john:

Evan, you didn't get Donnie Iris to volunteer, did you?
  10:45pm
Frisco Squid:

Rocky Burnette! Another blast from my past. Thanks!
  10:46pm
efd:

John, ha! I wish!
  10:46pm
brendan:

You're killin' it tonite Evan.
  10:49pm
JMD:

Did you play the LP version? It sounded a little less rockin' as I recall. Likewise, selective memory most likely.
  10:50pm
john:

I seem to recall the single version being very different too.
  10:52pm
Carolyn:

Great show Evan. I'm turning it up!
  10:52pm
Danne D:

I'm very excited Evan :) Though I still might throw out the random guess here or there anyway as far as the other "D" list celebrity. Wait - you don't have Kathy Griffin in your phone room do you?!? :D
  10:55pm
Danne D:

What if the person changes their name to IBM, Evan?

efd:

Don't get cute, Danne!

(and thanks for posting the links.)
  11:02pm
Parq:

Wow, I'd completely forgotten this terrific Elton number.
  11:02pm
Danne D:

Totally rocking my massive NASCAR headphones while I listen here in the Starbucks (little headphones hurt too much).

Grey Seal :) Cool :)

No problem Evan :) Can people use their board name though - could it be the "Coalhard Ticket Oasis" or the "Disco Diva Cheri Ticket Oasis" for example?
  11:02pm
efd:

Hey Carolyn, thanks! And thanks Brendan as well.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that "Tired Of Toein' The Line" sounded different.
  11:03pm
Danne D:

Hi Parq :) good to see you here :)

So Evan I assume the Happy How Do You Do To You Fantasy Baseball League will get started sometime after the marathon?
  11:06pm
Snortley:

You're kidding, right? I got all the EJ CDs at the record fair for, like, 2 bucks apiece.
  11:07pm
Joe B:

Donnie Iris and the Cruisers
Announcing June 18, 2011 Show

Post Game Concert: Donnie Iris & The Cruisers / Michael Stanley & The Resonators
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cleveland Indians
Progressive Field
  11:10pm
Danne D:

what was the number again?
  11:12pm
Danne D:

ugh the one night i wanna call and it's the other number
  11:14pm
Frisco Squid:

The new Joke album is a nice return to form. And they were stellar when I saw 'em in December.
  11:14pm
Danne D:

536 it's 536 right?
  11:14pm
Parq:

Hey, Danne. Worked late, so trying to cram a whole evening into two hours. Kinda like that show in the 60s about the guy with the terminal illness. "Run For Your Life", I think it was called.
  11:15pm
Parq:

Evan, working really hard on resisting the urge to pogo to this KJoke number.
  11:16pm
Danne D:

"work is like a terminal illness" - sounds like a good punk song
  11:24pm
efd:

Hey Danne, the off-air number is the same; it's the on-air number that's different.

Parq, why resist?!

Joe, funny, Cleveland was the team PIT was playing when I was there and Donnie Iris played.

Snortley, I was struck by a sudden urge to get those Elton John CDs a few weeks ago; I couldn't wait for the record fair. Even so they're only like $7 new.
  11:24pm
Steve L:

This set is going to make me late for work tomorrow.

Thanks!
  11:26pm
Danne D:

LOL - well I assume the tix are gone by now?

Was too busy processing whether I could go on the given date (and its relation to the marathon) that I totally missed the number. Just didn't want to guess and call some poor person at 11pm with a wrong number.
  11:29pm
Danne D:

Maybe I'll head out to one of the shows anyway :)
  11:29pm
Holly in NC:

Hi all! Evan, great show. Well duh ;-) Luddite that I am, I prefer New Math to JBB,but nonetheless lovely to hear any version of Invocation.

Will it irk anyone tonight if I note Duke's bkball win? ;-)
  11:30pm
Irked:

Wanna Duke it out?
  11:32pm
Holly in NC:

Ha! A swift jab to your Temple, & we're done ;-)
  11:32pm
Kat:

Personally, I adore that Dirtbombs record.
  11:33pm
Danne D:

LOL - If I can sit next to Scharpling I can handle Todd-o-Phonic Todd
  11:34pm
osvi:

Its the most wonderful time of the year!
  11:36pm
Danne D:

OMG was about to say gbye but not when Harry's on!
  11:37pm
In Sound Junkie:

Harry Harrison!!!! Listen and learn....
  11:39pm
Danne D:

It's like 4 degrees in this Starbucks but I'm gonna stick it out through this air check :)

Have a great night everyone! See you soon Evan :)
  11:40pm
efd:

Danne, I'll send out info about the fantasy baseball league after the marathon.
  11:42pm
Danne D:

Great Evan :) The rest of the show will be from my warm car :) Gbye again all
  11:50pm
Holly in NC:

This is by FAR the best version of 13 (wo)men ever! Love it. Since I learned of this version from 'Hang It Out to Dry' I now expect to hear Richard & the Young Lions...
  11:52pm
efd:

Haha Holly, I was thinking that too! Especially with Harry Harrison lingering in the air.
  11:52pm
Parq:

Evan, you are totally rocking the reminiscence tonight. I've had a dozen "omigod, I remember this song" moments easy.
  11:55pm
12539:

I was afraid of jinxing things if I said anything earlier, but this show has been even more awesome than usual, Evan.
  11:56pm
Joe B:

thanks for turning me onto Tropical Sleep!
  11:57pm
efd:

thanks everyone, see you for the marathon next week!
  1:25am
Holly in NC:

Where, pray tell, would one obtain that Lame Drivers?
