Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

Listener comments!

  3:07am
yair yona:

Hi Julie. I'm with you, 10:07am here so i'm no sleepy listener.
  3:07am
Meghan:

It's marathon time!!! Show your support!!
  3:16am
Elwyn:

Hey Meghan! Hey Julie!

How's the marathon going?
  3:18am
Meghan:

ELWYN!!!! hello!!! and bosco is here too!
  3:20am
Elwyn:

Is Bosco awake? I'm barely awake!

I guess it's those alluring French accents that are keeping me awake!
  3:21am
Julie:

Hi Elwyn! Bosco is my biggest fan. I'm sure he's asleep right now.
  3:24am
Meghan:

yep, he's lying on the floor..... near his toy. it's cute.
  3:27am
Elwyn:

I'm looking forward to pledging later this week. I've just paid off my credit card but am anticipating going into debt this month (paying mouse pledge in full, two car insurance bills, car registration, World Vision payment and starting to buy a biker scout costume).
Speaking of costumes, did you see the link I posted where I'm on TV?
http://www.sbs.com.au/chinese/video/409397/Armageddon-expo (48 seconds)

I need some cute photos of Bosco sleeping!
  3:33am
Marmalade Kitty:

Hello!
  3:34am
Marmalade Kitty:

Bonjour!!
  3:35am
Adam:

The Fall certainly does Manchester proud. Great fun listening to you two during pledge week one!
  3:36am
Meghan:

Ah the Fall! Yes, another great band from the area....... must be in the water there.....
  3:36am
Meghan:

Elwyn, I'll post up some images of bosco sleeping on the UWTP facebook page for you!
  3:38am
Elwyn:

Julie: You've got to watch "24 Hour Party People". It's a great biopic of the Madchester scene (inc Factory Records) staring Steve Coogan. Has a great scene that breaks the 4th wall.

Don't forget New Order.

A decade ago, I wanted to go to Boston for the music history. For bands such as Mary Lou Lord, Gigolo Aunts, Fuzzy... etc

The only succesful musical pilgrimage I've completed was to the Bulldog in Amsterdam because of the Van Halen video for the song "Amsterdam". I even found a photo of the band inside the Bulldog...
  3:38am
Julie:

Good morning MK! Hi Adam!
  3:39am
Julie:

Ah you know Elwyn I HAVE seen that. I think I had a brain lapse here. Steve Coogan was great in that.
  3:39am
Meghan:

Girls at Dawn CD up for a simple $15 pledge! Do it now!
  3:40am
Julie:

Actually, it's an LP! Even better!
  3:41am
Marmalade Kitty:

Come to Manchester and drink the Canal water, certified madchester
  3:42am
In The Morning:

I tune in to hear a girly radio show and the first thing I hear is Tori. lol
  3:44am
Elwyn:

Heh. I bought the Carl Newman setlist from the Terry T show during the 2010 auction.

Do you think the mainstream radio stations avoid live music because most pop musicians can't perform live well or can't sound good without exceptional sheen and gloss?
  3:47am
Marmalade Kitty:

Because the music they constantly play..
On the leeds side-streets you slip down
On the provincial towns that you jog 'round
Feed The Dj, Feed The Dj, Feed The Dj..
Feed The Dj...Feed the Dj... lala la♫
  3:47am
Adam:

Hi, Julie and Meghan! Pledged earlier today at the Mouse of Today level. I will likely call in a bit later, prize account style. WFMU DJ's spin circles around counterparts at KEXP. I learn so much every day by listening to this fine station.
  3:52am
Meghan:

Sing it loud MK!!! and yes Elwyn, i think you might be right about why other stations don't have live music
  3:59am
Marmalade Kitty:

That was the WFMU version of
Panic - by The Smiths..
Julie, Meghan, maybe you could play it, singing the final verse "Feed the Dj.." ♫..:)
  3:59am
KM:

Deerhunter or Dear Hunter?
  4:01am
Meghan:

That is DEERHUNTER! and yes, for $15 it could be yours!
  4:03am
Marmalade Kitty:

SING!
  4:04am
Meghan:

ha! we both are!
  4:08am
Elwyn:

MK: Do you mean today or at the Hoof-and-Mouth finale?

Can canines sing in English?
  4:08am
Adam:

Perfect! Listening to this Mazzy Star track reminds me of sitting outside in the Hollywood Hills and gazing at the lights below in 1992. Great memory.
  4:09am
Elwyn:

Hope Sandoval has such a distinctive and great voice.
  4:13am
Elwyn:

Marathon time is awesome! Call me mercurial but I love the swag especially t-shirts!
  4:16am
Julie:

You're mercurial. Whatever that means. I want that bottle opener!
  4:28am
Marmalade Kitty:

Elwyn, I think they should both perform a karaoke style rendition of Panic..! on air :)
  4:31am
Meghan:

I know you have been waiting for this- Emilie Autumn CD! $15 to get in on that!
  4:31am
Meghan:

Ummm, MK, I am already singing one of the songs Julie played already for the Hoof and Mouth!
  4:31am
pierre:

Underwater its dark, the park is dark, its a soul theme.
BONJOUR JULIE, BONJOUR MEGHAN, the marathon is lucky today (10.pm in Paris)
glad to hear you both.
  4:31am
Elwyn:

I've got to duck off to the gym before I get morbidly obese.

I'll see you on Thursday Meghan and Bosco!
  4:32am
Julie:

Bye Elwyn!
  4:33am
KM:

This sounds awesome. Do want.

Meghan how would I go about making my pledge online in several small parts over the marathon, but still qualify for the swag of the final total without being able to select the option?
  4:33am
Julie:

Bonjouj, Pierre! Bievenue
  4:33am
Marmalade Kitty:

What on earth is Hoof and mouth??
  4:39am
Meghan:

Awww Bye Elwyn and Bonjour Pierre! KM, You can pledge randomly, we keep track in the office. If you want, you can call Joe and set up an account with him if need be. But pledge as normal and you can say part of a mouse pledge or something of that line.
  4:40am
fred:

KM, if the total of your pledges reaches the mouse level ($365), you can create a prize account and then charge your next pledges from that amount.
Otherwise, you'll get a swag selection form in the mail after the marathon, and you can make your selection then, based on the total amount
  4:41am
pierre:

its an emilie special
  4:42am
KM:

Done. Thanks.
  4:44am
KM:

Orange Juice! Edwyn Collins lives near me in Scotland. Would be happy to win either.
