Scott WIlliams - congrats on your wonderful job of orchestrating the Hoof N Mouth Sinfonia every year for the Marathon Finale - an amazingly talented band who can do no wrong and who cover every genre effortlessly. *****

  3:11pm
tomB:

Scott, thanks for performing the Dusty song last night, and playing the original today. @Billy: your MUNI song was a breath of fresh air last night.
  3:14pm
Parq:

Scott, never did find out -- who was the young lady in the pink cardigan on keys for much of the latter half of the show?
  3:14pm
Ken:

Amazing job last night Scott! The band never sounded better.
  3:14pm
BSI:

I only had time to catch fleeting moments on the vid stream, but it looked like a lethally awesome time. Congrats on the almost-there marathon results as well...
  3:15pm
Mary Wing:

Parq, that was DJ Keili on keyboards!
  3:17pm
Bas, NL:

Fantastic Hoof 'n Mouth Scott!! Could someone tell me who was the great voice and ukulele performing a duet with Irwin?
  3:19pm
Mary Wing:

Bas, that was Beth Sorrentino. (I'm a wealth of info today, aren't i?)
  3:19pm
Bas, NL:

Thanks Mary; and you are!
  3:19pm
Looms:

I was watching the performance alone after a while because it started at 12.00am here, but Rob Weisberg (with the grrrreat Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia) made a huge impression.
  3:20pm
Looms:

Not only to me, i mean.
  3:20pm
Parq:

"Tonight You Belong to Me" has to be the most innocent cheatin' song ever.
  3:24pm
julia!:

scott:

Super swell job last night and through-out the entire Marathon, Mr. Williams. I am very impressed. Loving the show thus far as well (as always).
  3:31pm
Looms:

@Jeff M: what are you doing up? ;)
  3:34pm
Jeff M:

Just so'z there's no confusion: I'm not that DJ Jeff M, who has to my annoyance swiped my monicker.
  3:35pm
Looms:

  3:36pm
Looms:

Stanley:

I just want to say congratulatiions to all at WFMU and to all the fantastic listeners. I'm so proud to be connected to all you guys. WFMU is truly a rare and amazing thing. Long live WFMU and all who sail with her
  3:51pm
Jeff M:

Don't fret, Scott - less than 50 weeks 'til the next one!
  3:54pm
Cecile:

I caught the Clay Pigeon performance. What charisma!
  3:56pm
Chris:

Scott. Color me impressed. I had no idea that you had such mad skills on the guitar. And the band was tight! too. kudos to one and all.
  3:58pm
BSI:

The Great Valley, eh? Vocals eerily close to Mike Moorcock's (deep fix) for a minute there. Weirdly awesome.
  3:58pm
dc pat:

Yeah, Clay is a nut.--a true FMU treasure. And Scott's guitar work was superb...if Amishy.
  3:58pm
marcus:

The Great Valley is fucking great!
  3:58pm
Skirkie:

I loved the the slide guitar. That's what that was, right?
  3:58pm
Jeff M:

Apparently he plays anything with strings on it. He had that funky plastic slide guitar, and I swear I saw a banjo come out!
  3:59pm
Parq:

Scott, as long as we're lavishing praise on you (and deservedly so), let me just mention that I was not previously familiar with your skills on the lap-steel and the sax. I missed Chris Stubbs this year, but it was neat seeing something like a real horn section up there.
  3:59pm
Looms:

:(
I was too tired to catch Clay's perormance. Made it to Andy's. Is the finale video available somewhere as an archive?
  3:59pm
ZZ Top:

Williams, Scott - Thanks for ordering our Fan Club Only Beard Care Kit.

  4:04pm
Looms:

Already got my answer but thanks anyway, Skirkie! Marathon hangover, for sure.
  4:05pm
Looms:

And here comes a great track against hangover!
  4:07pm
Danne D:

Skirkie, if they are the ones I tweeted I tested them first :)

Scott, once again I was blown away by your performance of the "Days of Wine and Roses". Outstanding as always.

I have to say that I missed Chris Stubbs too this year - clearly a Hoof N Mouth legend though of course Scott was great on Sax as well :)
  4:07pm
doublebummer:

Enough self loathing ass kissing
  4:08pm
Marmalade Kitty:

What an awesome show last night!
That was the first time I saw the Hoof and Mouth, don't know how i could have mised it over the past couple of years?? But i'm glad I caughtit. Wish I could have been there :)!!
Well done everybody in the WFMUniverse!!!!
  4:08pm
Skirkie:

Yup, straight up copy and paste, Danne D.
  4:08pm
Frank Beard:

Ironically, i don't have a beard.
  4:08pm
Looms:

Bonjour Chaton!
  4:08pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Scott! Your show is aiding and abetting my marathon hang-over, and all I drank last night was seltzer. Staying up too late last night sure was worth it. Three(thousand) cheers to you, Scott, for wrangling such an incredible band!
  4:10pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Bonjour! :)
  4:11pm
dc pat:

doublebummer: your pessimism and knack for rocking the boat are amazing and very impressive and down right ok.
  4:12pm
Jeff M:

The band was tight, energetic and adaptable - a fact not completely unrelated to their dedication rehearsing beforehand, so the singers could swan in and have their star turns. I love the energy they have in this little rehearsal moment:

http://photos.bazbarfoo.com/WFMU/2011-Marathon/Misc-video/16155984_3qELb#1213283361_p4czL

(Wait 'til after Scott's show is over to watch and listen - no need to get distracted from what Scott's creating for us now.)
  4:14pm
spaceman:

beautiful man
  4:14pm
Looms:

Somehow seconding Jeff M's comment: how many rehearsals did you manage to have before the show, Scott?
  4:17pm
scott:

gosh, thanks everyone! We rehearsed 6 times, which is not to suggest that we rehearsed every song 6 times. Some songs we rehearsed zero times, and some of those were the best! and let's give some love to our unheralded saxophone ringer Dylan Going!
  4:17pm
Looms:

Just curious...
  4:18pm
Looms:

6 rehearsals for the whole show only? Well, great job, man! I mean it!
  4:22pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hooray for the horns! A horn section is a wonderful thing.
  4:23pm
Looms (fallling into despair):

What horn section are you speaking of, Wendy?
  4:23pm
BSI:

hooray for this damned mix!
  4:24pm
doublebummer:

Let us all receive OSCARS?GRAMMIES! Where the sun wished it could shine.
  4:25pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Looms, Dylan on the sax, Scott on the sax, Bryce on trombone. Irwin on a toy trumpet that I think was really a kazoo in disguise :-D
  4:26pm
Looms:

Boohoo! I'll check out the archive...
  4:28pm
Looms:

btw, i'm seconding BSI's comment. Great show.
  4:28pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Looms, don't cry! There will be plenty of videos/audio clips posted in the near future, I am sure. I recommend Clay Pigeon's cover of Chicago's "Beginnings" for some great horn section action, and for Clay's stage presence, which is always a delight.
  4:29pm
Looms:

:)
  4:29pm
dale:

ah, aguirre. i just gave my heart of glass vinyl a spin last week. love the stuff popul did for herzog.
  4:34pm
Mike East:

I agree, great show last night (what I heard of it) - as was all two weeks of marathon programming. FMU is unique that way (among others) in that their pledge drive programming is actually worth listening to.
  4:36pm
Head East:

Flat As A _______.
  4:41pm
Jeff M:

Here y'go, for them as wants it: Irwin, sporting his stylishly battered fedora, on kazoo-umpet.

  4:44pm
northguineahills:

I love this Michael Chapman...

I used to always try to work in that Popol Vuh "Aguirre I" into every dj set, no matter what genre....
  4:47pm
dc pat:

Nick Cave's version of this is one of my all time faves.
  4:48pm
yair yona (tel aviv):

there's a great Fred Neil version to Long Black Veil, really beautiful version.
  4:48pm
Carmichael:

I like any version of this song (and there are lots). And I like anyone named Lefty.
  4:49pm
Jeff M:

This is a cool rendition as well, first time I've heard it.
  4:50pm
dc pat:

agree. How do you get a nickname like that, dammit!
  4:51pm
Jeff M:

You never run across anyone called Righty.
  4:51pm
Aharon:

In Australia you do.
  4:53pm
Darby O'Gill:

I'd like to thank all the little people.
  4:53pm
Carmichael:

Q: What do you call a first-time offender in Tehran?
A: Lefty.
  4:54pm
JCJ:

There's actually a guy in my neighborhood nicknamed Lefty -- as a result of losing a hand to firecracker.
  5:01pm
pierre:

Bonjour/Bonsoir everyone !
Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia become one of my top ten band ever heard live on radio, i mean, you don't get to hear Bands like this anywhere. You don't get to listen things like wfmu anywhere anyway. It fill my heart with joy and peace to know that WFMU will keep on going for a year
  5:02pm
Looms:

Je suis d'accord avec Pierre.
  5:06pm
Happy Listener:

While I'm pleased that WFMU will be able to broadcast for another year, I can't help but feel a little frustrated by the fact that we didn't succeed in helping you reach your goal. I'm really hoping that the corporate matching of employee donations will take you the rest of the way.
  5:12pm
Looms:

@HL: we all have to deal with extra expenses but i'm sure we can make it together this year. We just have to spare, what? 15$ every month, and the station's budget will be ok in october. Maybe sooner.
  5:16pm
Happy Listener:

I also hope that my company will give you US currency the first time, this time.

Wow, the Fraction! I really like "Come Out of Her". Very Morissounding.
  5:20pm
RobotBoy:

Relatively new WFMU listener here. This show is an example of why WFMU is worth it. Of the artists listed on the playlist so far, I recognize only four, and I'm someone who doesn't listen to too much mainstream music these days. I'm over here in Randolph (home to the prestigious County College of Morris), which isn't that far from Dirty Jerz City, and WFMU doesn't come in that well, guess it's the price of being close to NYC and living in the most densely populated state in the country (lots of competing radio on the dial). Last comment: this chat function is cool, good for the WFMU community.
  5:25pm
blacktooth:

@Scott Williams, don't know what kind of hangover you're in after last night, but the set's been flawless so far! Continue to defy the law's of nature!
  5:25pm
pierre:

i love Kebekelektrik on wich you are speaking on right now.

i agree with Robotboy, for example i plan to meet fmu french (and european) listeners
  5:26pm

  5:39pm

@Bas: Boohoo, there's no way for job reasons (too long to explain). But you know, with all the nice gigs happening in Ultrecht, i might be chiming in a near future.

I already know that, Bas. I was born in Paris but Britanny has become my homeland. No way back!
  5:50pm

  5:54pm
pierre:

if you put a chameleon on a mirror, does it makes it disappear ?
  5:56pm
fred:

@pierre: I think both evenings are worth attending. But don't plan anything for Sunday: the beer is very good in there. I'll try to think of wearing a WFMU T-shirt
  5:56pm
Bas, NL:

@Looms... Ohw man.. How many Crepes Bretonnes i have devoured.. mmm!!! Maybe there always should be something to crave for...
  5:57pm
pierre:

i think i'll try friday then, because on saturday there is a conference at the musée d'Orsay about Hammer Films, should be interesting with aspirin ; )
  5:58pm
Looms:

Bas, do you remember where you've been in Britanny (apart from Brest for all i know)?

  6:02pm
Cecile:

Seriously. What happened with the skull?
  6:07pm
Looms:

@Bas: to be continued...
