  10:19am
Brian n UK:

Can anyone out there ululate?
  10:21am
schizflow:

this is one of the best shows i've heard on wfmu
  10:21am
Brian n UK:

@ Cheri Pi The one with the Ethiopian nun who lives in Damascus (I think) and plays piano, she is in her eighties.
  10:23am
Brian n UK:

@ Cheri Pi Which volume? Numbers add up to nothing (Neil Jung)
  10:23am
hamburger / london:

why is it some WFMU DJs don't have comment boards during their sets?
  10:23am
Mark from Pompton Plains:

I know one girl who can but you have to tickle her.
  10:24am
pierreall (formely un-known as pierre):

yeah Amede Ardoin !

is a Zydeco revival happening? Is it an option?
  10:24am
Mark from Pompton Plains:

Hamburger, I know in one or two cases the DJ simply doesn't know how to set it up. Another DJ that I'm aware of also just doesn't like comments; a form of shyness.
  10:25am
Mark from Pompton Plains:

Never mind who
  10:26am
Cecile:

Brian Turner didn't have one for a long time, and now it's one of the best ones out there.
  10:26am
Cheri Pi:

@BnUKI'll try it-that's Ethiopiques, Vol. 21: Ethiopia Song
  10:27am
sven:

Anyone tell me what that "Nothing Else Matters" covers was?
  10:27am
sven:

the cover was about 2.5 hours ago on WFMU.
  10:28am
Cheri Pi:

Cecile-don't you own a comment board? Do you have any advice for those of us aspiring to it one day?
  10:28am
still b/p:

Keep forgetting to note which volumes include some of the great individual tracks that we get here, so I can choose a few myself -- currently have NONE..NONE! All I want for Christmas or Easter or birthday or tax day is Ethiopiques!
  10:29am
Brian n UK:

Love it Jason more SPEECH.
@ CP Some of her sounds are like ripples on water, if that doesn't sound too poncy.
  10:29am
coelacanth:

I dont care about the comment board. i never use it anyway.
  10:30am
Mark from Pompton Plains:

Sven, If I were you, and I ain't, but if I werz, I'd just listen to the archive and try to pick it up from the horse's (aka the DJ's) mouth.
  10:30am
Cecile:

Yes, I own this comment board. It's called "Free Speech."
  10:31am
Brian n UK:

The Horse's Mouth that was a great book by Joyce Cary. Funny name for a man.
  10:32am
Cheri Pi:

Oooo that is a great name- I love Free Speech!!
  10:32am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I know a guy named Karen.
  10:32am
Cecile:

The Horse's Mouth is also a great movie with Alec Guiness.
  10:33am
still b/p:

Freeze Peach!
  10:33am
Cheri Pi:

Karen Yeah Yeah Karen?
  10:33am
Brian n UK:

Heroes name was Gully Jimson. Lord Buckley did a rap on it too.
  10:35am
Cecile:

I remember that great scene at the end when the barge is just floating along...
  10:35am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

no, I believe that Karen is female
  10:37am
Brian n UK:

One of those films that are made for black & white.
  10:38am
pierreall (formely un-known as pierre):

ok this is heavy
  10:38am
Cecile:

Really? I thought it just pulsed with color. The paintings were amazing.
  10:39am
still b/p:

Whoa-ho -- Gettin' literal in this vid! Skip to about 35 sec. and g'wan in!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrjyUVVX3PY
  10:41am
Brian n UK:

I think it was mid fifties and everything over here was in black and white. That's what I was trying to say.
  10:42am
hamburger / london:

nice track
  10:42am
2 cents:

Guiness made several essential comedies for Ealing Studios - Horse's Mouth was one. Kind Hearts and Coronets is the one you want to watch. Black comedy that ranks in my top ten or twenty. Guiness shows his range by playing eight different roles.
  10:43am
Brian n UK:

@ pierreall I thought it was the year of Twang. Back to Rock 'n Roll.
  10:44am
Cecile:

2 Cents, ealing comedies are awesome. SOme of my favorite movies.
  10:45am
Cecile:

From Wikipedia:
The Horse's Mouth is a 1958 film directed by Ronald Neame and filmed in Technicolor.
  10:45am
Brian n UK:

I think the site has been turned into flats now. Sad to say.
  10:46am
Cecile:

wow, didn't know Guiness wrote the Screenplay and got an Oscar nom!
  10:47am
Cecile:

that does suck. Brian.
  10:47am
βrian:

That guy has quite a cold.
  10:48am
Cecile:

Brian, are you a fan of Bill Forsyth films?
  10:49am
Cecile:

I mean Brian UK. Although other Brian is welcome to respond.
  10:49am
Brian n UK:

What Local Hero et al?
  10:50am
Cecile:

Yes.
  10:50am
Carmichael:

Good day Jason and anyone else named or not named Jason.
  10:51am
still b/p:

A Run for Your Money is an Ealing/Guinness entry that doesn't show up much, but moments are pretty funny,
such as when a Welshman can't get into a London pub because of midday closure and he decries "your Saxon laws."
  10:52am
Brian n UK:

Yes, but he seems to have disappeared off the scene. What has he done in the last decade or so?
  10:53am
Brian n UK:

@ still b/p That's rich from a welshman. They only opened their pubs in the north on Sundays two decades ago.
  10:55am
maja:

@ Iliane. Wow 30 years! what did you study?
  10:55am
Chris from DC:

Still bummed I couldn't make it to Whitehorse the other night.
  10:56am
Brian n UK:

Sorry Cecile just realised that I gave a politicians answer by not answering your question. Liked his early things Gregory's Gril (the well known typing error) Local Hero thought he lost some momentum.
  10:57am
Cecile:

I liked Breaking In, Brian, and it holds up well. I think he got bitter toward the end. He hasn't made a movie in nearly 20 years. He's very disgruntled.
  10:58am
Brian n UK:

Is it that long.
  10:58am
Cecile:

I really miss the guy. I wish HBO or someone would give him a few mil to make a modest film.

If I win the $100 million lottery, that's what I plan to do, at least.
  10:59am
Carmichael:

I'd give all my money to Reverend Larry.
  10:59am
Brian n UK:

I really like Andrea Arnold, also from Scotland. Try Red Road for size. A talent.
  11:00am
Cecile:

Yeah, I think Being Human was 93 or so. That's what broke him. The directors version of it is supposed to be great, but it got butchered and named one of the worst movies of the year.
  11:00am
still b/p:

Brian -- Who among us, at an eagerly thirsty time, meets obstructors with fair argument?
  11:01am
Cecile:

I will, Brian! I was looking at the Brit film institute's top british films and was surprised at how many I'd seen. Probably more than AFI's top 100. *embarrassed.*
  11:02am
Brian n UK:

b/p So true. We have the First World War to thank for our arcane licencing laws.
  11:04am
Brian n UK:

Cecile that's just having a wide view.
  11:05am
Iliana:

@maja Anthropology! However- that amount of time is just for a BA! Damn the private academy.
  11:06am
still b/p:

We have vestigial Puritanism, among other things, to thank for some of ours.
  11:06am
Brian n UK:

This is the great thing about FMU dare I say that folks who listen are aware that there is life outside their own borders.
  11:08am
Cecile:

sbp, and Minneapolis, the powerful liquor distribution industry. We can't buy booze on Sunday ,but we can drink it in bars!
  11:08am
Emily:

wireless broadcast = awesome!
  11:08am
Cecile:

this is true, Emily!
  11:10am
Brian n UK:

Sun shining here, better walk the pup. Great show Jason. More SPEECH.
  11:10am
Carmichael:

I'm a late bloomer to the world of wireless everything in my home. I must say, it's pretty cool.
  11:11am
Cecile:

good talking to you, Brian! happy walking
  11:13am
coelacanth:

Are you knockin shit over in there?
  11:13am
Parq:

Whew! Heard the Husker and thought "Damn, Joe B's on, it's noon already??"
  11:14am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

haven't heard this for over 10 years!
  11:17am
Nate in Detroit:

Best censoring ever on that Husker Du track. If it's gotta happen, it might as well be fun :)
  11:19am
Mike East:

Loving the show this morning, Jason! Good morning, all.
  11:20am
coelacanth:

The control whores never woulda caught it anyway, but it was a beautiful device.
  11:21am
Carmichael:

Day full of meetings. Goodbye, cool radio.
  11:22am
cool radio:

Bye, Carm. We'll save some fun for you.
  11:27am

  11:28am
cool radio:

Great stuff.
  11:30am
glenn:

lee's palace. i'll be there.
  11:31am
Cecile:

Holy crap. This sounds like Echo and the Bunnymen if they were into the Chocolate Watchband instead of the Doors.
  11:32am
saturn:

the show's rulin'!
  11:32am
Parq:

What a set! It really was like having Joe's show start early.
  11:32am

Cecile:
