Listener comments!

  9:07pm
stevel:

Happy Wednesday! Working at home sucks much less with efd!
  9:16pm
efd:

thanks Steve, I appreciate that!
  9:18pm
Kat:

Working at work sucks quite a bit less with EFD as well :)
  9:18pm
Sybil:

What Steve said!

So... any Poly Styrene tonight? :(
  9:18pm
mildred:

The dbs! awesome!
  9:19pm
Sybil:

Is everybody here working while listening? No wonder we're so... productive!
  9:23pm
Alex in Astoria:

Chicken Pot Pie ! I really needed that, thanks Evan!
  9:26pm
efd:

Sybil, I pulled the new Poly Styrene CD from the new bin but haven't heard it... i may get to a track later.
  9:28pm
miles high piles:

You're totally brightening my spirits here & making me almost enjoy folding this laundry. Thanks Evan!
  9:30pm
AZ:

At the risk of relinquishing what remains of my street cred, I will say that I have always liked those twiddly-sounding synthesizers on "Find Your Way Back.".
  9:30pm
stevel:

efd is part of an evil corporate plan to lull lackeys into productive activity
  9:31pm
AZ:

And I thank you for cutting Casey off before we had to hear that cruddy Gary 'US' Bonds comeback single.
  9:32pm
Amanda:

Phew! I just got in, and thought for a moment that Casey Kasem had usurped you.
  9:34pm
cheri:

hiya evan--i'm sorry i can't stay but i'm in the mood for a bit more 70s tunes could you make it happen efd??. great show tonight as always!!
  9:34pm
Kat:

I stare at Excel spreadsheets all day too. Got a couple open right now. Ugh.
  9:41pm
john:

To close the loop, the self-same Michael Bolton (then known as Michael Bolotin) played at my high school in something like 1979. Even then, I had sense enough not to go.
  9:47pm
efd:

Good thinking, john!
Hi everyone, thanks for tuning in and commenting! More fried than usual tonight, but I'll try to keep up.

AZ, your musical interests and knowledge are much broader and deeper than mine, but when we overlap we overlap HARD!
  9:49pm
Amanda:

"Fancy space person" would be good for Halloween.

"Zolar X" too, actually -- could be like a his/hers.
  9:50pm
stevel:

Zolar X rules the universe!! (Ask them.)
  9:54pm
Swami:

Ya killin' it EFD!
  10:03pm
AZ:

Best thing about Zolar-X: they were so into the space-creature persona they created for themselves that when in costume, they spoke only in "alien" gibberish!
  10:05pm
Amanda:

Sort of like the Hamburglars in that regard. Except totally different also.
  10:05pm
Kat:

Not every day you hear a songwriter attempt to rhyme "Albini" and "Buscemi"
  10:06pm
Danne D:

Hi Evan, Hi Funk Fans :)
Hi Amanda :)

cheri says hi, btw, she said she couldn't make it tonight and told me to say hi to you while on another show's comments board
  10:07pm
Danne D:

Friggin' Infante goes 3-3 after I get rid of him *sigh*
  10:10pm
Danne D:

This would be a great Hoof N Mouth song (not for EFD though)
  10:10pm
Danne D:

(can't wait until Amanda makes her Hoof N Mouth debut whenever that is gonna be) :) - the streams need to be representin' (just sayin')
  10:12pm
Joe D.:

she already did, but it was a private show. When they finally do a Criterion release of the Hoof and Mouth highlights, it'll be a DVD extra
  10:13pm
efd:

I just had to shut the studio door because SOMEBODY is blasting Paul Simon in the library.
  10:14pm
Danne D:

(retaliation for Jefferson Starship?)

Um, there's no such thing as a private Hoof N Mouth show - it's gotta be on the airwaves to count :D
  10:14pm
Amanda:

Oh man, if he busts that out on Coffee Break I am going to die...
  10:15pm
Danne D:

So Evan, did you ever tell us (or have Casey tell us) who went all those years in-between singles charting? The answer surely wasn't Jefferson Starship.
  10:16pm
Danne D:

Btw, happy Cuattro De Funko Everyone!
  10:16pm
Sybil:

Lovely, that.
  10:16pm
stevel:

Nice Pol Styrene song. Bittersweet to hear, but a good note to go out on.
  10:16pm
Amanda:

*Was* it actually Gary US Bonds, as AZ suggested?
  10:20pm
Danne D:

Btw, we missed you at the Baseball Project show on Saturday night Evan. WFMU was well represented, however, as Dennis Diken was there.
  10:21pm
Danne D:

Dang I have to catch that $mall Change archive!
  10:24pm
wiki:

Gary U.S. Bonds
"Copy Cat" #92 1962
"This Little Girl" #11 1981
  10:24pm
Kath:

R.I.P. Poly Styrene. I heard Robert Christgau's review of her new album on NPR - of all places - the other day and had no idea she had passed. What a loss :(
Thanks for playing her new stuff, Evan.
  10:25pm
Joe D.:

.... sorry.

I'm new.

obviously.
  10:27pm
efd:

Wiki is correct!

Danne, I'm sure it was a great show - cool that Dennis was there since he's actually mentioned in one of there songs!
  10:28pm
Danne D:

:) No worries Joe D - I mean it's not like Amanda's lovely singing voice hasn't grace the WFMU airwaves (it has) - it just will be so much better on the Maxwell's Stage :D

Btw, wiki, "Copy Cat" wasn't the song Casey mentioned in the air check - probably b/c his show focuses on top 40 not top 100.
  10:28pm
Amanda:

Joe, I command you to play Paul Simon despite what everyone says.
  10:29pm
Danne D:

Yeah, it was kinda funny - I've seen TBP twice now and Dennis was there both times :) - he actually was outside with a beer and we were pointing to him through the window :o) gotta love a Ringwood show.

Starship, Paul Simon - all the top acts are played here on WFMU :)
  10:31pm
Kath:

I realize this is totally non sequitur, but Evan, if you are following: any chance you could play Talk in Toytown in memory of Poly S?
  10:32pm
Danne D:

Jefferson Starship (that specific incarnation) - 13 times on the accuplaylist. Someone who will remain nameless "accidentally" has played "Find You Way Back" before - but as a kid of the 80s I don't mind this :)

24 Paul Simon plays - 20 different songs!
  10:34pm
Danne D:

Fun to try and play stump the accuplaylist archive :)
Dream Theater might be the best selling act to have 0 mentions in the last 22 years. (There's a reference to an unnamed song being played on Diane's show back in 1988).
  10:34pm
Joe D.:

good thing that studio door is closed because nobody wants to hear me scream singing in German no sir
  10:35pm
Danne D:

LOL :) I'm all about the German songs.
  10:37pm
Tanel Külaots:

i was just cutting this song (brausepöter) to be my new ringtone couldn't believe my ears :)
  10:38pm
Sybil:

efd is all about the synchronicity!
  10:41pm
Danne D:

Now we're getting Funky!
  10:42pm
Sybil:

What a great concept for an album.
  10:44pm
efd:

Kath, I was looking for "Talk In Toytown" last week and couldn't find it here. I think I have it at home, but of course that doesn't do any of us any good right now.

Tanel, that must have been very confusing!
  10:44pm
efd:

Sybil, I know, it's very specific!
  10:46pm
Danne D:

Wow - Tim Hudson with a career start - 1 hit and 1 walk complete game shutout :)
  10:46pm
Catywampus:

What's it take to get some Renegades around here?
  10:49pm
Cinco de Mayo:

¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Trece de mujeres!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:49pm
Danne D:

Red Sox still in their like 2 hour long rain delay, btw, Evan
  10:50pm
Danne D:

¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡y solo un hombre aqui !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:52pm
Kath:

Thanks, efd. I figured you'd have it! Just found it on youtube, believe it or not (just a still set to the audio): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnZTEHJTihw
  10:56pm
stevel:

Hey Cattywampus and Danne D: You'll never guess what tune I've been humming all afternoon.
  10:57pm
Danne D:

The Evan Funk Davies Show Theme Song? :)
  10:57pm
Danne D:

Does the song contain a number and a gender stevel?
  10:58pm
Holly in NC:

Ola Evan & all!
  10:59pm
Baker's Dozen of XX Chromosomes:

We are needy and luvvv attention.
  10:59pm
Danne D:

Como Estas Senorita Bonita Holly?
  11:00pm
stevel:

Sometimes i think that song carries bad luck.
  11:00pm
Danne D:

WOOOHOOOOOOO :D
  11:01pm
Holly in NC:

If you're asking if I'm well, I am, Senor Danne - gracias!
..... YESSSSSS!!!!!!
  11:01pm
Carolyn:

Yay!
  11:01pm
stevel:

The song in question raises serious questions regarding a possible nuclear conflagration.
  11:02pm
stevel:

Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!
  11:02pm
Baker's Dozen of XX Chromosomes:

[batting eyelashes comehitheringly]
  11:02pm
Joe D.:

a nuclear holocaust... with SEXY results.
  11:03pm
randy in NC:

Pretty soon, you'll have to leave off the New asterisk....
  11:04pm
Danne D:

naah, randy, that song never gets old! :)
  11:05pm
stevel:

Yeah! yeah, yeah, yeah, yeaaaaaah!
  11:06pm
Holly in NC:

Evan, you do know I am currently the adoptive parent of the wfmu 7" collection - thank you for so loving one of my babies!
  11:08pm
Calgon Bath Beads:

GIVE THOSE TICKETS AWAY, SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11:08pm
Danne D:

whoa, Bad Manners!
  11:08pm
Joe D.:

Hub City Stompers are from NEW BRUNSWICK!!!!

(New Jersey)
  11:08pm
Danne D:

8( there's really no way I could make it though as I wouldn't be able to get there before 10-10:15 at the very earliest :(
  11:10pm
Danne D:

New Brunswick is the Hub City of New Jersey :) That's all that really matters.
  11:11pm
Joe D.:

New Brunswick is also known as the "Hub City". It is my understanding that Boston is known more simply as "The Hub"

of what, I can't imagine.
  11:12pm
Joe D.:

on either account, really
  11:13pm
Sybil:

of the universe, Joe.
  11:15pm
Danne D:

Red Sox finally underway again Evan. Still 0-0 - top 5. Beckett's been taken out b/c of the long rain delay so the middling effort is all I get - no win for me :(
  11:16pm
N.B.:

New Brunswick sits at a transportation crossroads in NJ. It's on the Northeast corridor railroad line and is near several major highways including the Turnpike, Route 1, Route 18, Route 287.
  11:17pm
Sybil:

That reminds me, I don't know why, of my subway trip home tonight. The conductor kept announcing that we were being held in the station ("momentarily" natch) because of a train behind us.

I still don't get it.
  11:17pm
Danne D:

you can also get a good 'boli there.
  11:18pm
Albert E. of N.J.:

Space-time is more complex than we know, Sybil
  11:19pm
Danne D:

Maybe it was a transfer thing Sybil?
  11:20pm
Sybil:

Ah, Albert. I knew you were probably listening. I asked Heisenberg, nut you know how *he* is.
  11:20pm
efd:

I guess my fabled Bostoncentricity got the better of me. Thanks for the correction!

Danne, thanks for the Sox update.
  11:21pm
Albert E. of N.J.:

Yes, personality issues, don't I know it.
  11:21pm
efd:

All the smarty-pantses listen to my show, obvs.
  11:21pm
Sybil:

No, Danne, it was a train behind us on the same track. One with enormous gravitational influence, I'm guessing.
  11:22pm
Albert E. of N.J.:

Who you callin' shmartypantses.
  11:25pm
osvi:

Gonna go see Mantles and Crystal Stilts in S.F. this weekend...
  11:27pm
efd:

excellent Osvi, that should be a great show!
  11:27pm
Danne D:

Maybe it's a switching issue Sybil?

Maybe there was a crash scheduled for that moment but the other train was late?
  11:28pm
efd:

Danne, you're trying to apply logic to an illogical situation.
  11:28pm
Sybil:

You may be onto something, Danne. Dang, I just hate to miss a scheduled crash.
  11:29pm
Spock:

Highly illogical.
  11:30pm
Danne D:

my other guess might be if it has to do with the electricity flow in the system or something like that - and there needing to have the cars positioned in a certain way that's more efficient in terms of energy?
  11:32pm
Danne D:

Maybe you were just doing it wrong, Sybil:
http://www.wikihow.com/Ride-the-New-York-City-Subway
  11:32pm
Joe D.:

I'm pretty sure the NYC subway system is a giant negative energy antenna, like in Ghostbusters. The regular laws of physics just don't apply.
  11:32pm
Carmichael:

Hi Mr. Funk and other citizens.
  11:34pm
The Sounds of Today:

Quite a newbin show since the first set!
  11:34pm
Holly in NC:

Some awesome new music, Evan- thanks for sharing! (whole last set, plus adore the touch me nots, too)
  11:35pm
Danne D:

I like that new Renegades song, Evan :)
  11:37pm
Sybil:

The song by Les Breastfeeders is suppposedly available for download at their website

http://www.lesbreastfeeders.ca/
  11:37pm
Danne D:

Good luck with Lackey Evan - let me know if you want to start accumulating Red Sox pitchers ;)
  11:38pm
The Sounds of Today:

Evan is no Lackey! lol
  11:39pm
efd:

that just goes to show you how desperate I am, me picking up Lackey! I can't stand that guy.

Hey Carmichael, nice to see you here. Yeah, so much new stuff - I've got about 5x more music than I can get to, as per usual.
  11:39pm
Carmichael:

Well gaddamit, glad you played the renegades, pissed that I missed.
  11:40pm
13 Women:

There was only one man around, and Carmichael wasn't it.
  11:40pm
Carmichael:

Hey efd, I'm hanging out late night, nothing to do. So I'm absorbing the music ...
  11:41pm
Sybil:

(BTW I believe "400 milles" traslates to "400 miles" - the singer seemed to be saying he had run 400 miles to be in someone's arms. But I can barely follow Quebecois, so who knows.)
  11:42pm
Carmichael:

Story of my life, 13 ...
  11:42pm
Danne D:

Maybe this will help Sybil? :)
http://science.howstuffworks.com/engineering/civil/subway3.htm
  11:43pm
efd:

ah, Sybil, that makes more sense. I was influenced by "Milles Bornes," the popular French card game.

Popular 30 or 40 years ago, at least.
  11:45pm
Holly in NC:

Oh this is a great lp! Had no idea it'd been reissued. Good call by Mexican Summer!
  11:46pm
Carmichael:

Wow. Never heard this before. This is why I listen.
  11:47pm
efd:

This was new to me as well- I actually have a different version of "Life Child" on a comp, but didn't realize it was a cover.
  11:49pm
Danne D:

I played Milles Bornes in college EFD :)
  11:50pm
The 70s:

Ramases did a couple of albums then disappeared. It was later found he'd killed himself a very few years after dropping out of music. Check wikipedia etc.
  11:51pm
Danne D:

close the book on Cahill - now to the scary Oakland bull-pen. Really should get 2 wins tonight when I have 4 Starting Pitchers going :(
  11:52pm
Holly in NC:

Trivia - Godley & Creme produced & played on Ramases' lp. And Ramases is not to be confused with Rameses, the dang Tarheel mascot ;-)
  11:53pm
efd:

yeah, and Graham Gouldman is on there too!
  11:54pm
Danne D:

You get any of those crazy tornadoes by you Holly?
  11:54pm
Danne D:

BoSox got a man to 3rd base but could score. 0-0 after 6.
  11:56pm
Carmichael:

No Kidding, Holly? I guess I have to step up my 10cc fandom! Godley & Creme did pretty friggin OK on their own.
  11:56pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - Luckily, none here in Durham - thanks for asking! Some areas of Raleigh were hit hard - in fact Shaw University had to end their year early.
  11:56pm
Danne D:

and let's not forget "Cry" Carmichael :)

well they are closing the coffee shop so I gotta go - thanks for yet another great show Evan :)
  11:57pm
Sybil:

Bye Danne! Good midnight everyone and thanks to efd for all the new music! ;)
  11:58pm
Danne D:

Yeah I have family in Raleigh - my brother's neighbor's house was wrecked and there was lots of other ones all around where they live (my sis, my bro, and their families and my mom live down there) - scary.

Glad you fared okay :)

Now I really gotta go!! G'night all :)
  11:59pm
Carmichael:

Well, here's the credit for Space Hymns:

Eric Stewart - Lead guitar and moog synthesizer
Lol Creme - Lead guitar and moog synthesizer
Kevin Godley - Drums & flutes
Graham Gouldman - Guitar & bass guitar
Martin Raphael - Sitar
Ramases and his wife Sel sing all songs.
  12:07am
miketp:

  12:07am
osvi:

Ah...always wondered about that beat.
  2:32am
Aharon:

After after after the fact...very glad you played Tyler Jon Tyler last week. Loved the song and went to their show in a Chinatown karaoke bar; it was great.
  12:53am
Wrong Words:

Happy to be played in awesome company such as Dwight Twilley!
  11:32am
calzone!:

EFD. Just reviewing your show via the archive...another gem! I had not heard/thought of that Classic Ruins tune since I last played it on my College Radio show in the 80's. 'Claws' got a quite a bit of airplay on WBNY in Buffalo. I recall meeting Chuck Warner at either CMJ or the New Music Seminar many years ago and remember his unbridled enthusiasm! Thanks for digging up 'Geraldine...' and rekindling this magic memory!
