Listener comments!

  9:22am
Amanda:

Listen on Give The Drummer Radio:

http://wfmu.org/wfmu_drummer.pls
  12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

howdy amanda and all just tuning in on the stream!
  12:02pm
Amanda:

Hi LJFW! Welcome back!
  12:03pm
Anne Ominous:

The girl can dish it out!
  12:04pm
Carmichael:

Hi Amanda. Just in from 3 hours of bamboozling by Ken.
  12:07pm
Amanda:

Heh, Anne -- I wasn't familiar with that comp, but with that title how could I pass it up when I saw it in the library? (PS, it is great.)

Carmichael -- I looked in on his playlist today and immediately stole that "Nothing really mattress" jpg. It had a profound effect.
  12:12pm
Amanda:

Kate Eldridge of Big Eyes has a similar voice to Liz Phair, I think. (from me that is a compliment)
  12:17pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, it's sunny here, inside & out.
  12:18pm
glenn:

hi all. amanda, if i click on the 128k mp3 audio stream link on your page, it plays kurt's show.
  12:19pm
Carmichael:

Glenn, go to the main page and click on the .pls stream.
  12:20pm
glenn:

oh, i'm here now, no problem.
  12:20pm
Amanda:

Hi all! @Brian -- sunny here too! because I opened the blinds!

@glenn, great to see you! The URL to the Give The Drummer Radio stream is at the top of this playlist too.
  12:20pm
listener james from westwood:

Love this Blondie cover.
  12:23pm
Brian in UK:

Me too James, just doesn't have that Clem Burke snap. That's heresy I know 'cause YLT are CTG.
  12:24pm
Drummer Some:

Hooray for Amanda Nazario and fathomable radio!
  12:25pm
Amanda:

Sigh... one day I hope to achieve unfathomability
  12:26pm
Brian in UK:

Is this recorded underwater then, DS/Amanda? Fathom = 6 feet no?
  12:27pm
efd:

Hey Amanda, Doug, et al.! Amanda, if I may offer a suggestion - you may also want to put the stream link in the "HTML to display at top of this playlist" field in the playlist database so that it will be at the top of the page even when the comment with the stream has scrolled out of sight.
  12:27pm
glenn:

creamy, though goopy? cloudless thunder gray? craving the gravy?
  12:29pm
Amanda:

Evan, thank you for that extremely helpful tip! I AM GOING TO DO THAT NOW!

Brian, I promise this show will never be recorded under more than 4 feet of water. Or gravy.
  12:30pm
Brian in UK:

What about blancmange?
  12:30pm
Drummer Some:

Careful with those seven-syllable words, Amanda. You don't want to sprain something.

Thanks EFD. Great idea. Amanda, you could put the link in your show title for now and later add it to your program description so it'll be there every week.
  12:31pm
Amanda:

Brian, blancmange is much too English for this crowd.
  12:32pm
listener james from westwood:

The blancmanges mean to win Wimbledon!
  12:34pm
Brian in UK:

I think The Alarm are about to do a 30 year anniversary tour. Would need confirmation.
  12:36pm
Brian in UK:

Oh do not remind me of that facile game, James. For two weeks every summer people in this country who never have any interest in sport, profess to 'enjoy' watching Wimbledon. Elitist sport. Off the soapbox now.
  12:37pm
glenn:

i'll just come out and ask : what does CTG mean?
  12:38pm
Brian in UK:

Close to Godliness.
  12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

@Brian: Late Aug/early Sept in the NYC area is the same way, with the US Open centered in the borough of Queens. I tune it out, and I have license to bitch, having scored a free ticket in '92 that immunized me vs. tennis for life. Some folks dig it; I. Don't. Get it.
  12:42pm
listener james from westwood:

PS. Tennis (or tennis balls) provide the not-Prince-Hal-anymore a good chance to send a French ambassador packing in "Henry V." So they provided a nice slow-burn moment for Shakespeare.
  12:43pm
Ike:

Aw dang, I missed Thinking Fellers Union.

Maybe there should be a way to remove this confusing & misleading bit from appearing at the top of every playlist, since it doesn't apply to the Give the Drummer shows: "Live Audio Streams: Flash (beta) | 128k MP3 | 32k MP3 | 20k Real | 20k Windows"
  12:44pm
listener james from westwood:

@Amanda: If I read right last week, the playlist art is yours; true? Cool if so!
  12:47pm
glenn:

ahhh. thank you for elucidating me.
  12:47pm
Ranger:

Thanks for making my end-of-semester grading about a hundred times more enjoyable!
  12:49pm
Brian in UK:

Doug, ref Shelby Lynne, no snog but for such a slightly built woman she has got a heck of a voice live. Wonderful. Apologies, Amanda for cross commenting.
  12:49pm
listener james from westwood:

200 more good words in the article I'm writing and I'll be riding the whiskey train! save me a seat in the Manhattan car!
  12:50pm
Drummer Some:

Ike, you are SO RIGHT about it being confusing, We'll figger something out.
  12:51pm
Amanda:

Yes, LJFW! It is mine! I cannot make you a Manhattan but maybe one day I'll draw one for you.

Rangeroooooo!!! Thank YOU for tuning in, my sweet! You guys, Ranger is one of my dear dear writer friends, a PhD student out in Columbia, Missouri. I went to visit her last month.

Brian, I will never forgive you
  12:53pm
listener james from westwood:

I like writer friends! Welcome Ranger and best of luck with any remaining academic hurdles this semester!
  12:54pm
Brian in UK:

Ever, ever, ever, I'm sorry Miz Nazario.
  12:55pm
glenn:

i really like that the butthole surfers named their dog mark farner.
  12:56pm
Amanda:

Hahaha, I did not know that and it delights me.
  12:57pm
Alex Goldstein:

great show so far!
  12:58pm
glenn:

honestly though, he's not a very good guitarist.
  12:58pm
Amanda:

Hi Alex Goldstein of Rutherford, NJ!
  12:59pm
texas scott:

diggin' the sounds,Amanda.

thanks for the new addition to the stream,Doug!!
  1:00pm
Amanda:

It's ok with me, glenn. As you can tell by now, I only like terrible music.

Nice to hear from you, texas scott! Welcome to all this!!!
  1:03pm
glenn:

hey, i never said i hated mark farner, i just appreciate him for things other than his musicianship, like the fact that he wrote bad time, one of my favourite songs ever.
  1:03pm
listener james from westwood:

"I only like terrible music" should be on the next FMU T-shirt!
  1:05pm
Amanda:

Ha James! I'm just joshing with all of yiz, you're all right. I am even thinking about forgiving UK Brian, though it may take years...
  1:06pm
glenn:

amanda just killed radio.
  1:06pm
Amanda:

It won't be the last time
  1:09pm
Drummer Some:

I adore Fred Astaire. A terrifically underrated singer. Happy (recent) birthday Fred!
  1:11pm
Gaylord Fields:

"Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little."
  1:11pm
Brian in UK:

Well, if that ain't Shelby's sister singing harmony.
  1:11pm
glenn:

see, i think frank sinatra is terribly underrated as an actor. if anybody hasn't seen the manchurian candidate, do so now.
  1:12pm
Skirkie:

I missed the singing? F that.
  1:12pm
Gaylord Fields:

Amanda, you should have sung it backwards (and in high heels).
  1:13pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Amanda and all the listeners.
  1:13pm
glenn:

actually, if memory serves, i saw an article somewhere recently making the point that fred astaire is the most important hollywood person ever.
  1:16pm
efd:

The Cretones! Vintage Elektra new wave.
  1:16pm
Amanda:

Gaylord, you KNOW I am no Ginger -- I can't dance, and can't sing. But I gotta be part of that pop music thing.

Hola Richard!

Skirkie!!! Nevermind, you can sing along to everything that is played henceforth.

glenn -- who am I to argue? I love him too. Someone told me a rumor that he was the voice of "Tramp" in Disney's Lady and the Tramp, but I am not sure that's true.
  1:16pm
Jeff_the_bartender:

Woohoo! Ding Dong shoutout! Thanks, Amanda!!
  1:18pm
Amanda:

Jeff B. from the Ding Dong Lounge, checking in! Maybe I will see you tomorrow.
  1:19pm
Drummer Some:

So is the Ding Dong related to the Bada-Bing?
  1:19pm
Jeff_the_bartender:

Actually the other Jeff--come by on Friday afternoon!
  1:22pm
Amanda:

Oh crap! It's Jeff G....?!?!? I haven't seen you in a pig's age. Yes, I would do well to. (and apologies for the gaffe)

Doug -- funny you should mention Bada-Bing because there will be more on that later.

efd, yeah, I thought you might know the Cretones... a picture sleeve on Planet/Elektra I picked up at the ARChive sale
  1:22pm
Gaylord Fields:

Nice callback on Robert Crenshaw.
  1:23pm
Gaylord Fields:

Didn't the Cretones backed Linda Ronstadt on her silly New Wave album "Mad Love"?
  1:25pm
Amanda:

You say that as if I'd be some sort of authority on Linda Ronstadt. (scoffs; coughs; pulls at collar surreptitiously)
  1:25pm
efd:

Gaylord, yes, you are correct! (Not surprisingly.)
  1:26pm
Drummer Some:

"Gaylord, you are correct" is one of the most repeated four-word phrases in the English language. True.
  1:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

Aw, go on! No, no — go on! (With apologies to Terre T.)
  1:29pm
glenn:

didn't everybody make a silly new wave album at some point?
  1:30pm
Brian in UK:

Duran Duran are still making them.
  1:32pm
Amanda:

I can't seem to find out what year this was originally released. CD is not in front of me. can someone help me?
  1:33pm
Brian in UK:

Sundazed-Bobbi Irwin-Sinceros-New Wave.
  1:35pm
Ranger:

Merilee Rush! Yee-haw!
  1:38pm
efd:

I looked, but I can't find any mention on line of "Any Way That I Can" speficically.
  1:39pm
Amanda:

I think it's safe to say it was in the 1960s so I will say "196?" :-)
  1:40pm
Ike:

Oooooo, shoegazery racket.
  1:40pm
Amanda:

Gone Shoegazin'!
  1:43pm
Amanda:

I am not even sure that Merilee Rush first did Angel of the Morning, I may be just lying
  1:46pm
glenn:

she did. well, except for chip's demos.
  1:46pm
efd:

oh, found it - 1969. I was searching for "any way that I can," instead of "anyway i can."
(see http://hive45.blogspot.com/2010/12/choir-anyway-i-can-1969_19.html)
  1:48pm
Brian in UK:

Chip Taylor, now there's a hero.
  1:49pm
Amanda:

Hooray! Thank you!

I saw a couple of YouTubes with "That" in the song title and assumed I had just copied it down incorrectly. I am going to change everything now so there are no mistakes anywhere for the rest of my life.
  1:50pm
Brian in UK:

Can I get off of the naughty chair now.
  1:50pm
Amanda:

Brian -- You are right about that. Have you heard his interviews on Michael Shelley's show? You should!
  1:52pm
Brian in UK:

I have heard them. Saw him over here a few years ago, had a chat. So down to earth. The music just flows from him.
  1:54pm
Amanda:

OK! Now that I know you and Chip Taylor are friends, you can emerge from time-out indefinitely.
  1:55pm
glenn:

any relation to richard and mimi?
  1:56pm
listener james from westwood:

thanks for the fun show, and have a good rest of the week, all!
  1:58pm
Amanda:

Hey. Thank YOU. (All of you.) I'll see you again next week...
