Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from May 17, 2011 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Dead Corporate Eyes:

this is about as weird as it gets
  3:05pm
Mike East:

I agree.
  3:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Insurance should be lower, as long as it's the same car you're crashing over and over...
  3:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Did you play that track backwards, Brian? Or is that how the track came? Definitely backwards vocals in there.
  3:14pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good afternoon Brian.
  3:15pm
BT:

Hey gang, thanks for joining us.
  3:16pm
BT:

Nope....fwds
  3:17pm
Ryan M.:

Feeling this Peoples Temple
  3:19pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

indeed, it feels like something I should be feeling live in a dark basement
  3:19pm
bill:

These are the worst drums I've ever heard
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Group Doueh's from Western Sahara? Wow!
Sahrawi music, Sublime Frequencies never fails to amaze me!
  3:29pm
Rufus J Squirrel:

What is the name of the Peoples Temple blogspot again, Brian?
  3:29pm
dom:

  3:33pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

LOUD MUSIC!
  3:34pm
BT:

Hey Matt, check the archives for the show, back in June 2009 I went to Paris and broadcast a full live Group Doueh show from Les Instants Chavires, hot mix, sounded killer.
  3:39pm
J J:

I love Shaved Women! Er, I also don't mind if they aren't.
  3:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Brian!
I will check that out. A good time for Sublime Freqs--I believe that was around the time I first heard of Omar Souleyman on your show.
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bonzo Dog Band!
This is a slower, early rock & roll version compared to the Keynsham album--you can groove to this one better, though!
  3:49pm
efd:

That was Clap, not Claw, right?
  3:50pm
BT:

whoops thx Evan
  3:57pm
bill:

bravo
  4:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, the original, Elizabethan arrangement of "Hot for Teacher", transcribed by Sir Francis Bacon.

I guess Return of the Evil Pappy Twin is full of such lute covers?
  4:05pm
jaycjay:

Very happy to hear The Men here, BT... I've known those guys for a few years (over a couple different bands), and they keep getting better
  4:08pm
muniak:

Wow! Never thought I'd hear Dawn on WFMU... she was a unique character in Baltimore's avant-world. Sadly, she passed away on the dancefloor at an English country dance back in 2004.

  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

@muniak: Wow, sorry to hear that.
So often WFMU brings the spotlight back on forgotten artists, some from long ago. Just when you learn about something great that you think is new and beginning, you find out they've departed years before.
  4:15pm
dom:

sonnaofa COLD duck.!
  4:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Go Randall! Go Brian Turner!
  4:26pm
jeff-m:

ooh, thanks for the Bunnymen track. been too long.
  4:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

I saw Echo too! At the 9:30 in DC!
It was a great show, Ian was "ravaged" over the years but he still sounded like on the original albums. Live they sounded more noise rock (like the Jesus & Mary Chain) rather than alt rock, particularly the Crocodiles portion. Great show, great encores too! ("Nothing Lasts Forever" into "Walk On The Wild Side" medley!)
  4:40pm
Vicki:

Saw Group Doueh play in London on Friday - right old racket they made :)
A good racket I might add!
See you in Rome... that sounds good, doesn't it, ha ha.
  4:41pm
BT:

Hey Vicki - yeh.....Ill send you my digits and we'll see ruins and crap!
  4:43pm
Vicki:

Ruins and Matmos!
  4:43pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

keep at least a few of your digits so you can operate the console properly
  4:54pm
Ryan M.:

Frieder Butzmann has a new record out???? what the eff??
  5:01pm
BT:

Yeh, ask Morgan about watching their soundcheck in europe....
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

I was having fun the last 5 minutes with this lush White Hills track--

I was calling a doctor's office, which was closed. No option for a message, just a repeated loop of "The office is currently closed to reach the doctor on call please press 1". Once I became aware it just repeats forever, I STAYED on the line with the phone in my left ear, and plugged in my right earbud for a nice, layered mash up!
  5:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

All while working with my right hand on the mouse! Thanks Brian and WFMU, for the music we enjoy, as well as the fuel for our own imaginations!
  5:38pm
Ryan M.:

new Spacek sounds killer...total Sickness style!!
  5:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha ha! I was just calling and doing the same thing again, this time to Sissy Spacek up to La Gritona! Yeah, that was intense--they'll need the doctor on call after that!
  5:52pm
jeff-m:

enjoyed it. have a good trip man
  5:58pm
BT:

Thanks Jeff! See yaz in June
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Brian, great show, either straight or with the chaser of automatic phone messages thrown in :)

Have a great time in Barcelona! Stream us some good sets!
  6:42pm
A.T.:

Woah! Sutekh Hexen. I'm waiting for my copy of the 7" to show up in the mail. Glad to see you are supporting them. Really great band, I'm expecting them to blow up anytime.
