When you play pretty music, what do you expect the comments to be about? Those of us just enjoying the pretty music are...just enjoying the pretty music. It was pretty, and it was music. The Silent Majority likes.
  3:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Or lacking that, something else good goes well very soon after.
  3:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe Bacon: Wow! Hopefully you covered that weiner with tighty whiteys!
  3:28pm

First icy summer smoothie over here. Mango, berries + yesterday's tea and a couple dabs of yogurt n' tofu. Cinnamon some brown sugar for a bit of kick. Blended over the same ice tray bounty that I've been tossing at squirrels digging up planted greens.

Last time I used a blender (an inherited Osterizer) it was to make rocket fuel. Well, propellant, technically. They're called blender rockets. You dissolve KNO3 in boiling water, put it in the blender, add sulfur and briquet charcoal and keep blending until way past smooth, then pour into the engine cases.

Dante and the Lobster is a Beckett allusion.
  5:09pm
Wikipedia:

@Matt, have you forgotten me so soon?
  5:10pm
postmanpaul:

Good evening (here in the merry Olde England)i Irwin and all esteemed above. Got to see Ariel Pink after hearing him for the first time here on a high-brow arts BBC radio show. He was down this way a few weeks later, simply had to go. He was not being unprecocious that night. All ticket reciepts and takings had left the building some considerable time earlier. Shame, but there you go. The venue was a fucking dump, anyway.
  5:12pm
Lizardner Dave:

So to summarize, it was Ariel Pink's hot dogs on Weiner's Twitter feed with Colonel Mustard in the den.
  5:14pm
Ken:

Tonight on Seven Second Delay, I shall guess your meds!
  5:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Irwin!
I'm sorry Wikipedia, I'm amazed by what's on you, but I honestly had no idea "Danielson" would be listed! Can you forgive me?!!
  5:16pm
Fire Marshall:

In the FMU studio building, a fire alarm is just a programming idea.
  5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

There's all kinds of alarms on watches, oven timers, machine timers, or even an old-fashioned school bell (which caused more confusion than evacuation for me when I heard it somewhere). Now if it was like that "Canadian geese" noise you were making, obviously get out. Emergency alarms should be annoying as possible.
  5:18pm
WFMU:

We don't actually have a fire alarm, we just raise the level on channel 14, fire alarm SFX on endless loop.
  5:19pm
glenn:

canada geese are cockroaches.
  5:19pm
Irwin:

That's "Canada Geese," Matt. No needz 2 thx me.
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Fire Marshal: No kiddin! Any loud or annoying or repetitive noise is assumed to be programming there. SM Ken is such a vigilant defender of the station, everyone takes for granted that if there WAS a fire, he would have put it out. Followed by scolding Andy C. for not putting the mikes in mono.
  5:21pm
Canadian Goose:

@Glenn: Guess who just pooped on your car, eh?
  5:21pm
Julie:

If Ken & Andy guess my meds do they pay for the next refill?
  5:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: No need, but a want! Thx.
Funny that I said "Memorial Day's coming, the geese are getting flat" in response to your goose-in-the-street story; on Memorial Day weekend, I did in fact SEE a flattened goose on the side of the road!
  5:22pm
Julie:

@Matt I've actually been in the building and we looked around to see if it was some sort of truck noise or just the radio
  5:24pm
glenn:

i hate them. they shit everywhere, they block traffic, they're unbelievably vicious AND they're a protected species here. grrrrrr.
  5:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Good one! But there would have to be some sort of challenge component; Ken & Andy guess the caller's meds and they have to guess Ken's. At the end the "answers" are announced and the winner with the most points gets what's left in Ken's bottle or something like that.
  5:26pm
Marmalade Kitty:

This, "La Petite Fille de la Mer" is so beautiful sob
  5:26pm
Canadian Geese:

@glenn: And we get great pensions and free vet care. On your dime. Neener neener.
  5:26pm
RSTVMOSHO:

If Ken & Andy guess my meds do they pay for the next refill?
  5:26pm
RSTVMOSHO:

and before that...
  5:27pm
Marmalade Kitty:

you can train the geese!
  5:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Makes me glad wild turkeys didn't become America's national bird! Or the spirit Wild Turkey, wouldn't want THAT to be protected!
  5:27pm
RSTVMOSHO:

Ween
  5:28pm
ben drinken:

I see a lot of canada geese around. I always wondered if they would be delicious. i bet they would be. cooked in their natural juices.
  5:28pm
glenn:

c.g. - you're cooked, bubba. that's the other thing - goose tastes like ass.
  5:28pm
postmanpaul:

Exactly, Matt, there a far too many alarms, and alarms are, well, too alarming don't you think? When that moment comes we don't want to be freaking out to yet another alarm do we? Menacing ice cream van music, for instance, might be more suitable don't you think?!
  5:29pm
Marmalade Kitty:

but you can't make them go away..!
  5:29pm
RSTVMOSHO:

That's what I think, yeah!
  5:30pm
ben drinken:

we should introduce canada geese to north korea. an abundance of food.
  5:30pm
RSTVMOSHO:

Mascis just called.
  5:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie 5:22: Are there speakers throughout the building playing what's being broadcast? That would cause even more confusion!
@postmanpaul: That's good psychology, play something to GET people to run out of the building voluntarily. Ice cream van music, the perfect example of a Pavlovian reaction!
  5:31pm
glenn:

returning the invasive species favour? that would work, if we took all the canada geese here, and just moved them there.
  5:32pm
RSTVMOSHO:

Manzanera just called.
  5:34pm
moose:

i don't think those geese would taste so good
they seem to eat lots of chemically-treated lawns and stuff
  5:35pm
Brooklyn:

Speaking of scary ice cream truck music, starting this summer there are blaring trucks in the Jewish areas with "Little Brown Jug" style music, offering kosher "brachas" frozen treats, turned up even louder than the Little Brown Jug vans we've all known and hated for decades.
  5:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well moose, what's your take on geese in Canada??
  5:36pm
jan:

Irwin, your recent delving into 50s and 60s jazz is an education for me. Like the space age bachelor pad music you introduced to your listeners, this is a whole genre of music many of those coming of age in the 60's did not hear when our ears were filled with AOR and the like. It's great to hear now.
  5:36pm
glenn:

little brown jug vans?
  5:36pm
Mike East:

anybody have a link to a good cold brewed coffee recipe?
  5:37pm
glenn:

it's rutting season. moose is, umm, preoccupied.
  5:37pm
Brooklyn:

In the US, the ice cream vans often blare cheesy old instrumental recordings of Little Brown Jug, Turkey in the Straw, Old McDonald Had a Farm, and other cutesy "kid" music.
  5:38pm
glenn:

preoccupied should have finger quotes.
  5:38pm
Brooklyn:

Didn't Kenny ever do three hours of ice cream van tunes? If not, he's been falling down on the job.
  5:38pm
Boris:

Natasha, you hear dat 'bout Moose?
  5:39pm
glenn:

thanks, brooklyn. p.s. - nice bridge.
  5:39pm
postmanpaul:

Yeah, it could be a kind of 'buy 1 get 3 free special offer' manacing ice cream/fish and chip/kosha van music type of alarm, something to take our minds off filling our pants.
  5:41pm
rst-wiley:

cold coffee is easy --
just add the extras while still hot and mix very thoroughly

Fridge, freezer, ice cubes... Whatever floats your boat.

Ice has that watering effect, so make a stronger cup of coffee or make batch coffee ice cubes for next time.
  5:42pm
rst-wiley:

a batch a batch a batch
  5:42pm
RSTVMOSHO:

I love all you posters. : )
  5:43pm
Pete in LA:

Hey, what did I miss?
  5:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Are there going to be Jewish food vans at the Eupraxis event?! Then I'm so in!

Likewise, R. Stevie! :)
  5:44pm
Lizardner Dave:

Mr. RSTVMOSHO rising.
  5:44pm
RSTVMOSHO:

your time zone is late
  5:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well Pete, we seem to have missed your move to LA. And you dropped the "-ski". Does EVERYONE change their name when they go to LA?!
  5:46pm
jan:

And great to hear fresh Moondog too, which you have played for years.
  5:46pm
moose:

maybe the ones in canada taste better than jersey city geese
  5:48pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Humans are the problem.. Whilst destoying and stealing away animals natural environment, and feeding them shit, murdering. relocating and baiting animals, they complain when they are stung bitten eaten whole etc.. Animal revolution!
  5:48pm
moose and skwuddle:

hokey smoke, you sure look familiar!
  5:48pm
Jersey City Geese:

All that airborne bodyshop rust makes us higher in iron.
  5:51pm
glenn:

i agree with you, marm kit. i still hate those farking geese.
  5:53pm
glenn:

and don't forget - we're animals too.
  5:53pm
glenn:

and don't forget - we're animals too.
  5:53pm
Lizardner Dave:

We are animals and we won the revolution. Gimme that steak.
  5:54pm
glenn:

ooops. sorry.
  5:54pm
Jersey City Goose:

Keep your grubby mitts off my muscles.
  5:54pm
Lizardner Dave:

The barbecue will not be televised.
  5:56pm
glenn:

god, i hope not. have you seen some of those people on the food network's barbecue shows?
  5:58pm
James Brown:

Get on the Good Foot Foot! YOW!
  5:58pm
Joe Bacon:

Now it can be told...It was Frank Sinatra who said The Shaggs were better than The Beatles, not Frank Zappa!
  5:58pm
...:

Thanks, Irwin.
  5:58pm
Aaron in Minneapolis:

Sometime Irwin you should try playing My Pal Foot Foot backwards to see if there is any hidden messages
  5:58pm
Lizardner Dave:

Yeah, the guy who won Best in Smoke looks like the average WFMU lonley hipster listener from Brooklyn.
  5:58pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Canada goose steak has to be better for you than Burger Donalds, (as long as you don't eat the ones that have been grazing on nuclear waste)
  6:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

This show was fun!
Until next time Irwin!
  6:01pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Nice show, Irwin ;)
  6:01pm
RSTVMOSHO:

Best Fucking Show Ever
  6:02pm
Moondog's Goose:
