Listener comments!

  12:09pm Nanker de Tucson:

Fillmore East!
  12:10pm trev:

Ah, thank you.
  12:10pm Minnesota Jeff:

Did bands have to sign an agreement that if they were going to play at the Fillmore they needed to do super long drawn out jams?
  12:12pm Arlene:

I hate long meandering jams. UNLESS IT'S THIS!!
  12:12pm Swami:

I had not noticed this was a super long jam until 12 minutes in!
  12:13pm northguineahills:

Sweet!
  12:14pm Cecile:

Crazy Horse is the exception that proves the rule...

Great stuff.
  12:14pm phillthies:

"Roy Halladay - no hits. Joe Belock - all the hits!"
  12:14pm Nanker de Tucson:

I wonder if any group ever got booed off the stage at FE. Supposedly Bad Religion was at the old Fillmore West, but they were ahead of the times.
  12:17pm Lizardner Dave:

This is the long intro to his cover of "Take Off", eh?
  12:17pm Minnesota Jeff:

Was Bad Religion opening for someone who were opposites of them? Or do hippie jammers just go there for whomever.
  12:23pm Nanker de Tucson:

I wasn't there Minn Jeff, but a friend told me about it. It was the original FW building [the one on Geary] which was in pretty bad shape by then. iirc, it was a low fee/donation admission gig and there was just a bad vibe from both BR and folks down front. Pretty sure BR was one of at least 4 groups there for that gig. Not sure about the order or who may have been the alpha.
  12:24pm Potential Employer:

I could just about put his whole resume together from this rap!
  12:25pm MrHokum:

how long does this go on?
  12:27pm Ace:

How long has this been goin' on?
  12:27pm andymorphic:

day grinding to hault
  12:28pm northguineahills:

I am thoroughly enjoying this!
  12:29pm Swami:

Neil is g-damned baked!
  12:29pm andymorphic:

isnt this the antithesis of the 3 chord ethos?
  12:29pm Ace:

Me too, but I'm callin' bathroom break!!!!!!!!!
  12:30pm Minnesota Jeff:

Belock must be making one hell of a sandwich right now.
  12:31pm andymorphic:

he's stuck in traffic
  12:32pm chris:

Totally baked Neil...
  12:33pm PMD:

Just arriving and this 'song' has been going on for the whole time?
  12:34pm Ace:

It could be two tracks from the same live Neil album, but there's been no mike break since noon...
  12:34pm Lizardner Dave:

So Kenny G is guest-hosting Joe's slot this week huh?
  12:35pm mm:

how many times has he said 'anyways'
  12:36pm northguineahills:

Far out!
  12:36pm rubble:

If you're not entertained by this try breathing onto a mirror to make sure you're not dead!
  12:36pm Hubba:

I feel like Neil is leaning on my cubicle wall, resting his shoulder on my picture of Margret Thatcher...coffee in one hand and a pastry in the other... using the pastry as prop in his hand gestures... I'm not mkaing eye contact, trying to v-look-ip a spreadsheet...hoping he goes back to his cubicle, yet I enjoy listening to him carry on.
  12:37pm Cecile:

Groovy.
  12:38pm Bruce Springsteen:

I never could long-form stage rap like Neil. Guy's THA MAN.
  12:38pm Hubba:

"Come on man, remeber last time you jsut started singing in the office?"
  12:39pm Hubba:

bad trip
  12:41pm Neil:

Down by the reefer,
I lost my baby!
  12:42pm Hubba:

Dementia gets the best of us
  12:43pm Neil:

Where was I?
  12:43pm AnAnonymousParty:

Seems like you don't get much music for your dollar at Neil Young show.
  12:43pm Lizardner Dave:

Let this be a lesson to you kids - smoking too much weed makes you a tedious, unfunny jerk.
  12:43pm PMD:

Down by the reefer, I lost my bush baby.
  12:43pm Hubba:

you get stories of nagapies
  12:45pm Neil:

This is my brain. This is my brain on drugs. Any questions?
  12:45pm Parq:

This is starting to sound like that scene in "Nashville" where the country-music princess - was she supposed to be Loretta Lynn? - kept interupting the start of her song to prattle on and on.
  12:46pm AnAnonymousParty:

"You know, at this point I think I'd rather be watching David Crosby eating a McRib sandwich."
  12:47pm brilliant banner:

"Let's Not Do The War!"
  12:47pm Neil:

I could fill till 3. Just sayin.
  12:47pm Bob & Ray:

Why don't you ask us about the Komodo Dragon?
  12:48pm Lizardner Dave:

Please call Stella.
  12:48pm Cecile:

I think there's a reason he stopped talking onstage. LOL!

I still love this. Hilarious.
  12:48pm Minnesota Jeff:

This is multiple song intros right, with the songs cut out? I hear the audio sort of jumping now and again.
  12:48pm Steve Martin:

I can play the banjo.
  12:49pm ?:

The intro strum is always one of the same three chords...coincidence? I think not
  12:49pm G:

I would assume so, MN JF. Very amusing if you just go with it.
  12:50pm G:

Ten minutes till the station ID!
  12:50pm bluebird:

Minnesota Jeff, you must have eaten your wheaties this morning!
  12:51pm rubble:

RIP Johnny Maestro!
  12:52pm Hubba:

Best commencement speech EVER!
  12:52pm Hubba:

I live in a van..
  12:53pm Minnesota Jeff:

bluebird - I was just making sure it wasn't just an ultra grand ramble.
  12:53pm still b/p:

Down by the river, I talked my baby into a coma.
  12:54pm Lester "Roadhog" Moran:

We'll be out back if ya need us, pardner. Alright!
  12:54pm Lester "Roadhog" Moran:

We'll be out back if ya need us, pardner. Alright!
  12:54pm Hubba:

"Words"
  12:55pm Life's Been Good:

I lost my Bentley,
Now I don't drive.
  12:55pm Garrison Keillor:

Hell, I could do this.
  12:56pm Life's Been Good:

You do, Garry, you DO.
  12:58pm Guitar Player:

This is the most E A and D major chords I've heard in an hour in a LONG time.
  12:59pm Pee Wee Herman:

I love that story.
  12:59pm jack:

Mr. DJ this is not nice !!! lol :)
  12:59pm DEA:

Do I detect a theme to all these rambles?
  1:01pm jack:

I want to hear Neil Young not think this is torture no
  1:01pm Gregg Allman:

Lord, you were born a ramblin; man.
  1:02pm jack:

this is not funny anymore Neil Neil lol
  1:02pm northguineahills:

It takes a rambling man, to sing a rambling song.
  1:02pm Beastie Boys:

Licensed to Neil
  1:03pm northguineahills:

I want to break for lunch, but I'm loving this too much!
  1:03pm Ed Zeppole:

Over 400 live Neil shows in my collection and I've never heard ANY of this stuff before! What the fuck is it all?
  1:03pm jack:

first it's a mountain then not then a mountain and then not again and again !
  1:03pm chris:

JoeB came back long enough to ID, then hits it out of the park!
  1:04pm Gary Oldman:

Neil by Mouth
  1:04pm Cecile:

Ed Zeppole, I know a chunk of the dialog is from that recording of his show at the Ark in the late 60s.
  1:05pm jack:

neil is so good lol
  1:05pm Nathan:

I'm kind've digging this Belock show...
  1:07pm ?:

I wanna step away for a minute but I'm unexpectedly riveted...enough with your insidious genius neil and joe! I need drink of water dammit!
  1:07pm Spankyflop:

This is starting to worry me, but I don't see any news of of Neil on the internet. Is there something we should know?
  1:08pm Beastie Boys:

Could it be three hours of Down By the River and Neil raps?

@spanky: I checked for anniversaries and birthdays, can't find anything. Anyone?
  1:08pm Hubba:

BC is not Ontario...
  1:10pm Hubba:

Eulogy for angry Canucks fans? That was first guess, with all the burning vehicles and such
  1:11pm glenn:

and us ontarians are forever grateful for that.
  1:11pm Louisville Dan:

NY just released "Treasure" from his archives. I too am riveted. Way to go Joe!
  1:11pm still b/p:

On this day in 1884, the first roller coaster in America opens at Coney Island.
First woman in space, 1963
Bob Dylan records "Like A Rolling Stone", 1965
  1:14pm Carmichael:

Hey Joe and typists. I'm a veteran of the Fillmore (West), having seen oodles of bands there. It's still a great place.
  1:14pm Ed Zeppole:

Cecile, Thanks for the info on the dialog. I did not recognize most of it and I'm not familiar with that particular show. You can never hear all the Neil that is out there, that's for sure.
  1:14pm Hubba:

Is it the flooding? Like, now my house is down by the river... wasn't yesterday, but it is today.
  1:14pm PMD:

@Carmichael, I still have to get there!
  1:16pm Nathan:

River's Edge? (Film) Talk of speed, a bit of Lane-esque rambling... ?
  1:16pm Skedula:

Neil's site shows him doing dates in California the first week of June, but nothing this week, and nothing in our NYC area, so I checked that possible angle w/o any clues turning up...
  1:16pm Carmichael:

As a government employee, I'm close to living in a van down by the river.
  1:16pm Cecile:

You should pick it up. Great music, and hilarious interludes.

Sugar Mountain-Live At Canterbury House 1968 (CD/DVD-A) by Neil Young (Audio CD - 2008)

mixed it up with the Ark, but Neil might have played there, too.
  1:16pm AnAnonymousParty:

What happened to the Neil Young monologues?
  1:17pm Minnesota Jeff:

Rivers Edge features the best Cripin Glover performance ever.
  1:19pm glenn:

and by the way, that's an e minor 7 chord, not e major.
  1:19pm Skedula:

@AnAnon: Neil got laryngitis and decided to play some long long solos instead.
  1:19pm Carmichael:

The soundtrack to Dead Man was stark and brilliant, IMHO.
  1:19pm Ed Zeppole:

Okay cool. I'm familiar with Live At Canterbury House but I do not have it. I'll have to pick that one up. That new live disc from '84 is supposed to be released today I think.
  1:20pm Carmichael:

I was about to mention that, Glenn. Em7 to A7.
  1:20pm Hubba:

What about "The River"... with Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek... farms vs. the River
  1:21pm glenn:

we rock, carmichael!!
  1:21pm don:

this jam with booker t is spectacular and really suits my mood right now. but what is the occasion???? just need to hear some neil?
  1:21pm Skedula:

@glenn and Carm: Yep, guy really knows how to mix it up on the chord progressions. He missed his calling in jazz.
  1:23pm Hubba:

This song is epic... like a river... like... Missouri is epic
  1:24pm PMD:

someone earlier may have guessed? Neil Young was/is Canadian...
  1:26pm Minnesota Jeff:

I dragging along in hopes of some interesting Belock back annoucing, but this is putting me into the red in terms of Neil Young jams. This just, ughhhhhhhhh, too much. Prefered the talking.
  1:27pm SmokinJ:

Wow.. must have nodded off smokin' this fat j.. Did I miss anything?
  1:28pm Joe D.:

I'm going to have to disagree with you there, Jeff.
  1:28pm Carmichael:

I think Joe had a dentist appointment.
  1:28pm Mike East:

I'm loving this.
  1:28pm Cheri Pi:

I'm not sure how I feel about this either.
  1:28pm Minnesota Jeff:

If this is some ode to Youngs candian roots, he's from Winnipeg and they have their own team again and the Canucks were begging for the rest of Cananda to root along with Vancouver.
  1:28pm Skedula:

@MN JF: Ya gotta get into the spirit of the thing. A few red pills or a a couple of bong hits, and the solos are really intense.
  1:28pm Hubba:

Neil young: club edit
  1:29pm northguineahills:

Alright, time for lunch!
  1:29pm SmokinJ:

Come on children... NEIL FUCKIN' ROCKS!
  1:30pm glenn:

no no no. neil young was born in toronto. they moved to winnipeg when he was 7 or 8 or so.
  1:30pm Cecile:

I remember in '72, every boy in my 5th grade class spent hours mastering the drawing of the Bruins logo.
  1:31pm Skedula:

Rocker Ramblingly Raps Redux
  1:31pm Cecile:

glenn, I was thinking about you. Shannon Tweed left Gene SImmons - you said she wouldn't put up with his crap a while back...
  1:33pm Hubba:

Is it a song about diabetes?
  1:33pm glenn:

hmmmmm. perhaps she's looking for something on the rebound. i hope she smacked him a good one on his way out the door.
  1:33pm Rob:

For the first 20 minutes, I thought this was a stand-up comedian, pre Steven Wright
  1:34pm glenn:

then again, i hear ahnold's available.
  1:34pm Minnesota Jeff:

glenn - Yeah but he had all his formative years in Winnipeg and his parents are from Winnipeg. He was in the Squires in Winnipeg, met Jonnie Mitchell in Winnipeg, etc.
  1:35pm jack:

Joe Beeotch !!! why are u doing this ? You mad at the world today ?
  1:35pm Cecile:

They filmed a series of Family Jewels and they keep walking off the set with each other during talk show interviews. The ones that they finish, you wish they would have walked off - they're so tense.
  1:35pm Stage Talk Clinic:

He should add to his monologues something novel like maybe smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer
  1:36pm Hubba:

okay, okay... he put his hand right inside you... a la Temple of Doom
  1:36pm Cecile:

I want to do a dance record that samples "he put his hand inside me"
  1:37pm dc pat:

this is great. Neil is a national hero...ah crap, forgot...well he's a national hero for some of you's...
  1:37pm KP:

Which is how met my brother.
  1:37pm jack:

this ain't funny it's stupid
  1:38pm Gregor:

A lot of talk of "dope songs" today
  1:38pm jack:

you should give us a break, this is mean
  1:39pm Greg from Detroit:

superb Bloomsday tribute to Kenny G.
  1:39pm glenn:

well, i know very little about neil, all things considered.
  1:39pm Hubba:

For some... this is the best part of a live show...
  1:39pm Cecile:

to quote someone from a long ago Stereo Review piece: "Neil Young is a bozo. But he's such a great bozo."
  1:40pm Hubba:

Bozo was creepy
  1:40pm jack:

this don't sound superb this sucks
  1:40pm MD:

Neil makes me happy at the world...and i'm
a 49 year old punk rocker...The Ramones are my Beatles
...but Neil still makes me "happy at the world!!!"
  1:40pm Bryan:

Shit. I just dropped in to make a Kenny G joke but Lizardner Dave beat me to it by about an hour.

I am loving this show.
  1:41pm j:

jack you are just egging him on
  1:41pm KP:

This is going to cause a riot in Vancouver.
  1:41pm jack:

I want to hear him sing not talk bullshit from "66
  1:41pm Hubba:

and it took you three hours to play...
  1:41pm glenn:

the scene in year of the horse where they set the hotel table on fire while the maid looks on in horror / desperation / fascination is stellar.
  1:41pm KP:

LOve Love love this
  1:42pm jack:

well he's being mean at this point so I don't care call homeland security
  1:42pm KP:

  1:44pm Hubba:

  1:44pm KP:

As Ace (not Rob's hardware store) sings, how long has this been going on.
  1:44pm Booker T.:

Just wake me up when you need me to play something...
  1:45pm Hubba:

Not long enough...
  1:45pm Guitar Player:

102 minutes and counting, I meant
  1:45pm jack:

well you stopped the clocks lol
  1:45pm Nate in Detroit:

Hahaha this is THE BEST!
  1:45pm Minnesota Jeff:

GET THE KIDS OUT OF HERE! ROCK MUSIC REPORT IS ON! FOR ADULTS ONLY!!!
  1:45pm glenn:

i'd rather listen to neil do practically anything than listen to amanda. or madonna.
  1:46pm Bryan:

Don't tell me you're caving!
  1:46pm jack:

ok your forgiven lol
  1:46pm rubble:

hey Jack, what's stupid is listening to something you don't care for on the radio and then complaining about it repeatedly...is your dial broken? Or just your sense of humor? :)
  1:47pm Guitar Player:

Parents, please take the red pills yourselves first before deciding whether to give them to your children.
  1:47pm KP:

I see the real ace beat me to thhe how long joke. Well done, ace!
  1:47pm Cecile:

I loved that whole Neil thing. He was such a kid back then. Very different from the elder statesmen he is now.
  1:47pm Lance Johnson:

Cap'n Willard!! They're gonna play MUSIC!!
  1:47pm Cheri Pi:

It's over. Thank gawd.
  1:47pm Hubba:

I'm disappointed now... I was in it for the long haul...
  1:47pm SmokinJ:

Kiddies babblin' on the computer.. Too funny..
  1:48pm Joe:

Did I miss something?
  1:48pm SmokinJ:

Gen XYZ attention deficit disorder..
  1:49pm Cecile:

me, too. Hubba. Me too.
  1:49pm dc pat:

Yeah, I dug it too. You hear so much boring stage talk, it's nice to hear some one good at it. He's up there with Jon Langford.
  1:49pm Hubba:

Hey leave Holland out fo this... this is about the battle between Canada and the U.S.
  1:49pm Joe B:

Anyone who thinks anyone complaining had anything to do with anything is sorely mistaken
  1:49pm glenn:

i thought america was about capitalism and religion.
  1:49pm KP:

More Neil Rap, More Neil Rap!
  1:50pm MD:

WE COULD NOT HAVE THIS WITHOUT NEIL!!!...AND HE KNOW'S IT!!!!!
  1:50pm Cecile:

You're always at the helm, Cap'n Joe! :D
  1:52pm MD:

HELL...WE KNOW IT!!!!!!!!
  1:52pm glenn:

i'm seen 'em both, a number of times. i think jon's got the edge. sally timm's stage rap is better than jon's though. she's got some potty mouth.
  1:53pm glenn:

snap!
  1:53pm cynthia:

Joe speaks the truth, I asked him when it was safe to step away cause I didn't want to miss any neil at 1:35 and he said 6 more minutes! I have the time stamped text for proof! Is the wife allowed to testify if this goes to trial??
  1:54pm Guitar Player:

I'm betting is it's congenital. Is it so tough for people to just take something for what it is and go with it?
  1:54pm Joe:

Joe thank you for Dale Watson tickets. Amazing show.
  1:54pm The Real Joe B:

cool it or comments going down jack and whoever else
  1:55pm SmokinJ:

Joe's acid test to determine infantile demographic...
  1:56pm dc pat:

Langford has better stories. A good story teller somehow understands the crowd's sense of humor...or maybe not maybe we understand the story teller's...

Sally is great for heckling (good-heartedly). No matter what you come up with, she always has a response.
  1:58pm jack:

weiner is going into treatment Hillary and his wife are takining off his wiener
  1:59pm Minnesota Jeff:

I just want to make sure everyone has heard the news that Metallica and Lou Reed have recorded a 10 song album. No release date as of yet.
  1:59pm Carmichael:

I sense an IP ban.
  2:00pm Guitar Player:

someone needs castration, that's for sure. :-)
  2:00pm glenn:

metallica. lou reed. metallica machine music?
  2:00pm Cecile:

Yeah, Chris Jericho broke the news on Twitter. Your joke here.
  2:01pm jack:

  2:01pm glenn:

i'm betting that shrink was on call 24 hours a day.
  2:02pm Minnesota Jeff:

Here is the rolling stone article where two are totally gaga about each other and whatever the hell they recorded: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/alternate-take/exclusive-metallica-and-lou-reed-join-forces-on-new-album-20110615
  2:02pm jack:

  2:03pm KevinWho:

  2:03pm jack:

we got your ip what ip ?
  2:03pm Guitar Player:

That's also about how long it takes to delete a non-constructive comment, Joe, and BTW does your last name start with A and end with ss?
  2:03pm glenn:

most of us don't care, jack. so be off with you.
  2:03pm Cecile:

there are lots of parallels between their dilettantism and wackadoo-ness. I'm not going to diagram them, though.

That might not be a bad record.
  2:04pm jack:

jeez what did I do ?
  2:04pm jack:

jeez what did I do ?
  2:04pm dc pat:

  2:10pm Minnesota Jeff:

Oh. Wow. A don henley deeeeep cut. This is like looking into the on coming nuclear blast wave ready to shred my skin off.
  2:10pm Minnesota Jeff:

Did Don find some Billy Joel tracks in the trash or something?
  2:11pm Minnesota Jeff:

*lyrics
  2:11pm Joe:

But but I like this it can't be Don Henley. My whole world has been shaken.
  2:11pm Cecile:

No fun aloud.
  2:11pm jack:

  2:12pm Cecile:

First we were robots. Now we're pagans. Make up your mind.
  2:12pm still b/p:

Henley once jumped onstage to join Mojo Nixon doing "Don Henley Must Die."
  2:13pm jack:

lol you don't even know what you are
  2:15pm still b/p:

The Ragin' Reagan Pagan Hobo Robots rule!
  2:15pm Comment Reader:

  2:15pm Hubba:

Bay Area represent!
  2:15pm Cecile:

If you're going to insult us all, I request that you use a line of reasoning more sophisticated than that of a 3rd grade kid.
  2:15pm Cecile:

Nay, verily, good sir, I demand it.
  2:17pm Marmalade Kitty:

Jack and the Aholes, It's BIG to hide behind a screen to talk shit?
  2:17pm northguineahills:

If Joe B had kept on playing Neil's banter for the whole show, I wouldn't have eaten lunch until 3.
  2:18pm Mike East:

I haven't loved everything I've heard by Personal & The Pizzas, but that track is undeniably great.
  2:18pm Nathan:

Hey guys... don't feed the trolls. Only encourages them.
  2:19pm Hubba:

Anything by The Outsiders?
  2:19pm Cecile:

What is the point of dried bananas? They taste like ammonia and are disgusting. Oh, well, Neil gave me a soundtrack to pick them all out of my trail mix.

Mike East, Brian Turner was playing them a lot last year. Check the archives.
  2:19pm dc pat:

Mike East: I'm with you, can't beat that one.
  2:19pm Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Joe ;)
  2:20pm Cecile:

with 100% less banana chips!
  2:21pm dc pat:

  2:21pm Cecile:

it's been like that here too, dcp. It was actually cold on Sunday.
  2:21pm Hubba:

Wow! Bay Area in full effect. I miss Matt Roberts, but he lives in on in the records I can't afford.
  2:23pm Cecile:

Oh, sorry Mike East. I thought you said you hadn't heard them. I'm with you on that. Cool track.
  2:24pm Hubba:

He turned me onto Bird Nest Roys
  2:24pm Das:

Dumb question, what is that great band Joe plays on Norton - King ____ and the ___tones?
  2:25pm Carmichael:

We should be at 100 degrees by Father's Day. Beer, BBQ, pool, total worship.

Should be a good day ...
  2:25pm Hubba:

I turned him onto The Pop Art Toasters
  2:25pm Mike East:

No apology necessary. A recommendation to check archives is always welcome. I think I heard that song on the efd show as well
  2:27pm Cecile:

Got any Duane Eddy, Joe?
  2:29pm Lizardner Dave:

Long live the robot pagans!
  2:29pm Cecile:

Wow, he has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift...surf!
  2:30pm Joe:

KING USZNIEWICZ & THE USZNIEWICZ-TONES ?
  2:30pm dc pat:

Das it's King Uszniewicz & his Uszniewicztones
  2:30pm Das:

That's the one, awesome. Thanks! These guys kill.
  2:30pm Joe:

Never mind guess he is playing your answer :)
  2:35pm Das:

I looked like a real dunce asking for that in the record store.
  2:36pm Joe:

Then you went to the wrong record store. :)
  2:37pm Hubba:

Is that comp related to the "Where the Girls Are" comps?
  2:37pm Cecile:

What was in the water in Texas in the 60s? Incredible bands.
  2:37pm Das:

haha
  2:38pm Joe B:

@ Hubba, same company
  2:40pm Hubba:

Okay... Ace... The Brain Wilson production comp is same Co. as well... Gary Usher "sacramento!"... what about the Goodees comp?
  2:40pm Joe B:

Yup, they did the Goodees also
  2:41pm Hubba:

Is Neil on the horizon?
  2:43pm Nanker de Tucson:

Yea, Pueblo Colorado.
  2:45pm Cecile:

why am I getting Texas, then? Maybe because of Buddy Holly.
  2:48pm chobro:

Buddy was born in Lubbock . .
  2:50pm Cecile:

Yep. That's what it was.
  2:55pm Hubba:

Great set! Thank you!
  2:56pm Mike East:

Great show today. Good comments, too.
  2:56pm Joe:

Been a blast
  2:56pm Joe B:

@chobro, yes, the fact that Norman Petty was Holly's producer makes people think Texas
  2:58pm Joe B:

@ Mike East - thanks, and just to be clear to everybody I don't really give a shit about negative comments but things start to get out of hand (and fake Joe b posts included) is when i have to draw the line. I know people think of the net as a free for all, but please try to think of the comments board as an extension of the particular DJ's show. thanks for listening/commenting
