Listener comments!

  9:02pm
Julie:

kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikiiiiiiiiii
  9:03pm
john:

Title says it all!
  9:03pm
Julie:

kiki dee is one of the most fun names ever
  9:09pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

Your Dean Carter song is oddly correct with the welding torch guy on this website home page.
  9:11pm
john:

Wow, all up-to-date and stuff. Did she rollerblade in the streets in the '80s? Segway in the Streets in the 00s?
  9:13pm
efd:

Ha ha, John, I'd love to hear a "Segway In The Streets" remix.

Hi Julie, and hi everyone else! dPcd, you make an excellent point.
  9:16pm
Kat:

speaking of segways, that was a pretty good one between Martha Reeves and LCD Soundsystem ;-)
  9:18pm
efd:

ha, thanks Kat!
  9:25pm
john:

Is he going to give us the motionmix they used for the Anthony Weiner story?
  9:25pm
Adam in Portland:

Tangerine Dream for MOTION MIX!!!
  9:26pm
WF:

was that a sexy sax?
  9:26pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Evan and all the listeners.
  9:26pm
Adam in Portland:

....and what is saxy sex?
  9:26pm
jmd:

Motion Mix my decals off, baby!
  9:27pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

So this evening, I have been given a tip that is a $50 I Tunes card. Probably due to the previous DIY show, sorry.
But I think it only a tribute to you all there. People are surprised and enjoy your music as much as I sometimes in the cab. Thank you!
Irwin and Ken did well also today... inspiration for the weary.
  9:28pm
Adam in Portland:

Heyyy Richard, EFD, and all other little lords and ladies.
  9:29pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Adam.
  9:35pm
Adam in Portland:

Most punk rawk thing ever: skeleton with a mohawk?
  9:36pm
12539:

dPcd: Years ago, a friend got a ride in a cab that was playing Mr Fine Wine, and told my friend wfmu was the best station. I wonder if that was you.
  9:44pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

@12539
Not years ago for me, but I am not the first to be inspired. You might imagine the many times I am asked to turn it off as well. Not everyone is open to new things, but why else did I come here after all?
  9:46pm
john:

Really enjoying this Soft Tags track, but have they always sung in an English accent (known to the medical literature as Pollard's Disease™?)
  9:48pm
glenn:

really? robert pollard?(ha ha) because i've often wondered why accents seem to disappear when someone is singing.
  9:50pm
glenn:

p.s. i really like this yellowbirds. so i must recommend the deep dark woods. the best band in canada at the moment.
  9:51pm
efd:

doh!
  9:52pm
efd:

glenn, I don't know that band but I'll see what I can check out of theirs.

John, I didn't really notice the Soft Tags vocals sounding different from the way they sounded before so I can't really say...
  9:54pm
john:

Either way, it's a really good record. As was the Yellowbirds. Plus, I just like saying Pollard's Disease.
  9:54pm
glenn:

they're from saskatchewan. a little gloomy. the songs are great and the lead guitarist is fantastic.
  9:57pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

glenn- so many great things in Canada. I agree. Not once have I been spat upon there.
Are you including Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans in your list of their finest?
  10:01pm
fdre3wsd:

I know this was answered before but whats that instrumental he talks over? Bar Fight or something
  10:01pm
miketp:

hello efd great show glad to join in the funk
  10:02pm
glenn:

hair in my eyes like a highland steer, all i want to do is play cards, always keep an edge on your knife. damn skippy. corb is great.
  10:03pm
john:

Does anyone know what the connection between Yellowbirds and Ladybug Transistor is? While the record was playing, I might have mentioned that they sounded like the world's best Ladybug Transistor tribute band. Which was a compliment, I hasten to add!
  10:04pm
glenn:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9InpkS8cuI&NR=1&feature=fvwp
  10:04pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans.
Greetings from the Starbucks where I am trying to drown out the idiots next to me.

Hi EFD. I always love when you enter the SuperSox-type territory so I thought the WINS demonstration stuff was fantastic.
Have a lot of work to do so won't be very present on here tonight.
  10:10pm
efd:

you know what, it's no t a Ladybug Transistor connection at all - there's a member of Apollo Sunshine in Yellowbirds. Don't ask me how I got those two bands confused.

Hi Danne, miketp and all! fdre3wsd I'll answer your question about the talkover music shortly, but anyone else should feel free to jump in!
  10:14pm
Danne D:

I always like when Evan tells the story about the Lordz of Brooklyn bed music :)

Btw, it's been a fun year in the fantasy league, EFD. Seems like owners are a lot more active this year!
  10:16pm
john:

Funny you should say that, Danne--I can't seem to trade for a closer or two to save my life!
  10:17pm
glenn:

there aren't many great closers in real life baseball, except for maybe rivera, the ageless wonder.
  10:19pm
Danne D:

trades can be hard to achieve, John. Alas my team is rather closer poor so I can't help ya :)
  10:19pm
glenn:

and the beardy guy on the giants, whose name i can't remember.
  10:21pm
john:

Hey Danne, it's the thought that counts! And I think there are actually rather a lot of decent closers, but I'm with Billy Beane on this one--if you've got a good one, get someone else to overpay for him and give the ball to some kid with a live arm and hey presto! instant closer.
  10:23pm
osvi:

Hp1 rules.
  10:23pm
glenn:

us long time (suffering) blue jays fans haven't had a good closer since tom henke, who was lights out almost everytime.
  10:24pm
Mo Tuffy:

I'm drivin over here!!!! (sent from the Quick Chek parking lot on my blackberry)
  10:31pm
Julie:

Oh man..I had this record
  10:32pm
Julie:

Now I feel like digging out Shaun's version of Rebel Rebel
  10:33pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Evan & all!
Julie, I'm of the David generation myself :-)
  10:33pm
12539:

"had?" Did Clay Pigeon steal it from you?
  10:34pm
Julie:

It's in storage with most of my records, I live in Manhattan I don't have room for everything!
  10:34pm
Julie:

@Holly I always thought David was better looking, better singer
  10:35pm
Julie:

and of course the Partridges had great songs..I have one of those records somewhere too
  10:36pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

Okay, glenn, Randy Bachman is an authority of guitar, has his own show on CBC, is NOT fat as depicted on the Simpsons, and last year did a fine BTO reunion tour.
I in fact saw him perform. At such an advanced age and not having binged on substances that would make it harder to work like that, he is indeed an icon. A Canadian great.
Sorry, the fares are slow tonight. His guitar is in the DJ background thing, no?
  10:44pm
Holly in NC:

Oh, this Cynics/Kid Congo vibe is perfect!

@Julie - I foolishly got rid of my Partridge family lps in the bloom of angsty adolescence, along with a ton of K-Tel albums, bummer.
  10:44pm
jmd:

@Julie&@Holly. I think you mean Parker Stevenson, right?
  10:45pm
Julie:

@Holly I never got rid of ANY records until recently..and it was hard to do that.
  10:45pm
Julie:

@Jmd nope..Although I did like Parker better than Shaun.
  10:46pm
Julie:

I remember the ROIR cassette days
  10:47pm
john:

Go Buccos! And ex-Cynics!
  10:50pm
Holly in NC:

@jmd - totally mean David, Parker was totally off my radar...probably had moved on to Paul McCartney by then...or maybe Eric Heiden? I also had a huge Thurman Munson poster....
@Julie - I *do* have my Bad Brains on ROIR!
  10:53pm
efd:

dPcd, you're correct re Randy Bachman. The music bed (just to make it official!) is a loop of "Saturday Night" by The Lordz Of Brooklyn, which came out in the early/mid-'90s. And that song Samples the opening guitar solo of "American Woman" by The Guess Who, featuring Mr. Bachman.
  10:53pm
Dave B:

W00T!
  10:54pm
dave:

here's a fun game you and your friends can play: play a hillary blaze track and then a pharaoh overlord track for people who haven't heard either of 'em, and challenge them to identify which one's older.
  10:54pm
Julie:

someone has to show Clay Pigeon this album
  10:57pm
Danne D:

(btw hiya Julie)
  10:58pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

Mr EFD:
Many thanks. Your show is very good indeed.
  10:58pm
efd:

dave, that is hilarious!

Hi Dave B and Holly!

Julie, I'll try to remember to leave the Hillary Blaze CD in front of one of the rows of CDs in the new bin. You can show it to Clay yourself tomorrow!
  10:58pm
Dave B:

@EFD

Every time I hear the song or even THINK of "American Woman" all I hear in my head is:

"A Merkin Woman"

There, now you will too!
  10:59pm
Holly in NC:

I can't believe efd didn't take my Thurman bait. Dangle, dangle...

@Dave - old Pharoah sounds newer, new Pharoah would be VERY difficult!
  11:01pm
efd:

oh, I saw it! But even I am not going to start knocking a dead guy.

What happened in the Yankee game tonight, anyway? I know the Red Sox won.
  11:03pm
john:

Tribe won, 5-3. Woot.
  11:03pm
Danne D:

That Jeter guy got a hit Evan.
  11:04pm
Danne D:

:( Thurman

Hard to believe that was 32 years ago in August.
  11:07pm
Holly in NC:

Yankees lost, but Jeter only has 3 to go!

Re Thurman & meaness - my (ex) husband used to make crashing helicopter noises with his lips while gesticulating wildly & lisping Thurman's name whenever he wanted to get my goat. Yes he is a Red Sox fan (& rather nicer than that story suggests!)
  11:07pm
efd:

honestly, the sooner Jeter gets his 3000th hit the better as far as I'm concerned. The buildup makes me crazier than the actual achievement. And as a Sox fan, I'm very happy to see him back atop the Yankee lineup.

Thanks for the score, John. Good news!
  11:08pm
Julie:

I love White Mystery, Dan Bodah turned me onto them
  11:10pm
Julie:

too hot for a bubble bath
  11:10pm
emmagineering:

OMG EFD! Enjoying the set!
  11:14pm
Danne D:

Btw, this has been a great show EFD. I mean, you know that of course, but it's good to remind you once in a while I figure.
  11:15pm
john:

My pleasure, and couldn't agree more about Jeter. Also nice to see him back imitating his future place in Monument Park in the middle of the infield.
  11:16pm
Holly in NC:

@Julie - browse me...
  11:18pm
john:

Historical linguistics note: the "wh" words were all "hw" in Old English. About a thousand years ago, so your grade school teachers actually WERE as ancient as you presumably thought at the time.
  11:19pm
Julie:

The Asian film festival is always wonderful I need to check it out again
  11:20pm
Holly in NC:

Black devil disco club!!
  11:26pm
Richard from Venezuela:

The men track is great. Love this kind of noise.
  11:27pm
efd:

hi Richard, sorry I bailed out of it - I was getting concerned about some of the language I thought I was hearing, but maybe it was just my imagination.
  11:29pm
Richard from Venezuela:

No problem. FCC is a pain in the ass.
  11:30pm
efd:

John, thanks for the hwat-for!

emmagineering, glad you're listening and even more glad you're enjoying the show!
  11:30pm
Holly in NC:

OK, best lyric I've heard in ages.
I don't want an omelet....
  11:36pm
Holly in NC:

And Laura's voice is such a balm to the soul.
  11:37pm
Julie:

There's no mistaking that voice
  11:38pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Agreed. Perfect for this night time.
  11:38pm
Julie:

Seriously...I wasn't that in to the country music she played on her show, I just listened for HER
  11:38pm
efd:

not such a great segue there, in hindsight.

Totally agree re Laura's voice, it is melt-inducing.
  11:41pm
Julie:

I've met her very briefly a couple times but never really had a chance to talk to her
  11:41pm
Julie:

wait, that was a guy?
  11:42pm
Danne D:

I thought that was Ms. Cantrell
  11:43pm
dave:

please don't give kenny g any ideas.
  11:44pm
Danne D:

Ever seen a show at Cake Shop, Julie? It's a great venue :)
  11:45pm
Danne D:

I think I saw Care Bears on Fire there.
  11:45pm
efd:

Julie, that was a woman singing. I don't think there's anyone in the band actually named Tyler (or Jon, for that matter).
  11:45pm
Julie:

I haven't Danne.. Ah they were playing somewhere I nearly went to see them
  11:46pm
Julie:

I've gotten to where I shudder when I see the word cake, so perhaps not
  11:46pm
Julie:

the math is getting harder
  11:49pm
Julie:

now I want cake
  11:50pm
Danne D:

Something seems missing from the comments board tonight. Probably figure it out later.

lol :) I had cake for my birthday last week :)
  11:50pm
Julie:

Damn EFD you sure put on a show perfect for a summer night
  11:51pm
Julie:

@Danne it's kind of refreshing, but I have a new stalker now
  11:51pm
12539:

Yes, great show tonight, Mr Funk.
  11:52pm
Julie:

I was totally not going to stay in the living room until midnight..hmmmph
  11:52pm
efd:

Thanks Julie & 12539 (and Danne earlier), very much appreciated!

(Julie - sorry about that!)
  11:54pm
Julie:

12539, it's one of those phone numbers from an old movie
  11:56pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good night evan and all the listeners.
  11:56pm
12539:

No, it's only my listener number.
  11:57pm
efd:

goodnight Richard, thanks for listening!
  11:57pm
john:

I'll add my vote in there too--great show!
  11:57pm
Danne D:

Julie you are quite the stalker magnet. Anyhow, I have to go as the coffee shop is closing up. Thanks for a great show Evan :)

Good night everyone!!
  11:57pm
Julie:

ah..clever,.. i never remember mine except Joe always tells me it's a low number..one of my fave kraftwerk songs
  11:58pm
Julie:

night Danne
  11:58pm
efd:

  11:59pm

  12:00am
Julie:
