  7:37pm
CB1:

I don't know what's #1 but I bought an electric toothbrush today at K-Mart and it had this huge thing strapped to the package that had to be removed by a kid who it took ten minutes to find. It was the only thing I saw in the store that had this contraption. So I am guessing electric toothbrush----??
  7:37pm
sugarwolf:

most shoplifted item: makeup?
  7:37pm
Rob:

I'd say by-the-pound food at supermarkets such as grapes or hot food bar items.
  7:37pm
Tir Chonaill Abu:

ScottC that's a very good guess, though it should be Family Guy DVDs Nat the Parker or should that be Nat the shoplifter??
  7:37pm
dale:

'steal this book?'
  7:37pm
G:

they always lock up razor blades, meds, cosmetics, maybe those...
  7:37pm
ScottC:

lipstick...
  7:38pm
CB1:

Dale - Oh, that's good!
  7:38pm
Nat the Parker:

Actually, in "the Biz" they call it "shrink" not "shrinkage." And an LP isn't a magical piece of vinyl, its Loss Protection. The More You Know!
  7:38pm
EG:

panties
  7:39pm
G:

in some areas, carrying meat out in your clothes is considered a competitive sport
  7:39pm
jbm:

Condoms, because people are shy about buying them?
  7:39pm
frenchee:

I'm with sugarwolf and others who say makeup
  7:39pm
jbm:

"Who threw that ham at me?"
  7:39pm

  7:43pm
listener gary:

Nail polish. Back in 64- 65 when i had just moved down to the west village and the flower children were oozing in from SF I was in whelans one day and saw a tall thin blond hippie boy lifting a package of Brecht Forever Blond. Made me think that you can take the boy out of bourgeois but you can't take the bourgeois out of the boy. Image is everything! Best...
  7:45pm
Don (minister of props):

A bit of Sherman folklore - The folks at BBQ productions who did the '65 Worlds Fair documentary had to get the OK not only from the Sherman Bros. (who OKd immediately) for 'It's a great big beautiful tomorrow' (Pepsi Pavilion) but from the Disney lawyers - who dragged their feet. They were finally able to release the DVD two years after the premiere. Yup, the Tigger songs and all else Winnie the Pooh was Sherman.
  7:46pm
CB1:

40 years ago I lifted a leather jacket from Barney's. I wore it to loft party that night and got so drunk on Gin that i threw up in my lap. When I went for my jacket to leave someone had stolen it. Never did that again.
  7:47pm
seang:

funk it up -yeah
  7:49pm
Tir Chonaill Abu:

@CB1 yeah but i bet you still drank gin? You should have gone straight back and lifted another from Barneys
  7:49pm
monica:

Great story, Listener Gary... Thanks, hellbilly13. He's so great...Hi, Kevin...And G...Nat the Parker (thanks for the lingo check)...EG, you're getting closer...Hola, SeanG... oh CB1!! Bad boy.
  7:49pm
susan:

  7:50pm
CB1:

Tir - Oh, no - never could stand gin or shoplifting again. Pity.
  7:50pm
jbm:

If EG's getting closer... Special lady-time products?
  7:50pm
seang:

Civilizations can die, but we still got this song
  7:51pm
ScottC:

thong
  7:52pm
EG:

really - I knows lots of womens and it makes sense ... it would be so easy breazy
  7:52pm
CB1:

BRAS!!?
  7:52pm
ScottC:

it has to be something considered indispensable - yep - thong
  7:52pm
dale:

i never shoplifted without buying something. makes you less suspicious. it was also college survivalism at it's worst. if meat is close we'd have to gguess packaged - bolonga is sort of like meat. i still like beer though. seen a lot of dashing from the cooler in my day.
  7:53pm
Don (minister of props):

Hosiery or blank cassettes.
  7:54pm
trsh:

Going with the obviously addictive product.. smokes?
  7:55pm
CB1:

Trsh - can't be smokes, they are always behind the counter.
  7:56pm
ScottC:

@CB1 that's easy to solve - just have your comrade in crime flash her thong and do a snatch and go...
  7:56pm
EG:

bras is good ... but hosiery sounds way good .. muy facil chiquita
  7:56pm
trsh:

Oh yeah.
  7:57pm
trsh:

I guess gum, then.
  7:57pm
CB1:

I'm still going with bras
  7:57pm
Tir Chonaill Abu:

Monica I have to go I will catch up on the listen again but I stand by my first guess girdles and failing that my second guess ....emm rulers as you can always slide them away in hidden places. Catch you on the listen again train. Everybody else enjoy the music and good luck with guessing the answer
  7:58pm
EG:

  8:11pm
Davice:

Justin Beeber
  8:11pm
Razor Theft:

Justy say yes.
  8:11pm
texas scott:

who shoplifts the most?
drag queens on dope
  8:12pm
Don (minister of props):

LiLo.. I thought the only EJ Korvettes were in Douglaston and Herald Sq.
  8:12pm
CB1:

movie stars? Just kidding. The middle class?
  8:12pm
Davice:

Does Justin Beeber shave?
  8:12pm
John Waters:

  8:12pm
EG:

  8:13pm
trsh:

Czech!
  8:15pm
CB1:

Mo, did I tell you me and cb2 LOVE Lykke Li? Thanks for introducing us.
  8:15pm
dale:

winona ryder got nuthin' on me! well, ladies use razors, too, soo maybe it's young women. milady needs a nice presentation in her new chanel bikini on jones beach.
  8:16pm
Parq:

Don, there was a Korvettes in Paramus NJ -- I got some of my first rock LPs there. Neil Young's "Harvest" leaps to mind. I regret to say that, being a nerd, I bought them.
  8:16pm
monica:

oh right, david... CB1, scary, huh?...parq, she did? sounds more like a betty ford misdemeanor...
  8:17pm
EG:

CEO's who're constantly shaving then later perfoming @ Lips

  8:18pm
seang:

fur and silk panties
  8:18pm
drugs:

ahhh the Good Docktor......slowed down like honey is twice as nice too of course
  8:20pm
jbm:

Razors are crazy-expensive because they keep throwing more marketable "technology" at it - five-bladed mega-razors, really? - and once you buy into that notion, you're locked into their proprietary cartridges, which is where they make the money.

There are some brands (Merkur, Feather) still making good ol' double-edged blades which, by the way, actually seem to have far better edges than what's in the mainstream cartridges. Actually, Feather may, if anything, be *too* sharp.

But here, this is the first reference to such products I could find; I'm sure there are better lists or reviews out there if one looks more carefully.

  8:20pm
Don (minister of props):

@Park - unfortunately got indoctrinated early that NYC was the center and nothing else existed. Loved Korvette cutout bins for Motown 45s.
  8:21pm
texas scott:

monica, you need to hit us upside the head with an all disco/dance show.
maybe halloween?
  8:22pm
monica:

Hi Texas Scott! Sorry, trying to catch up here...
  8:23pm
texas scott:

the tunes are crazygood
  8:24pm
CB1:

jbm - I though my beard was getting tougher. I bet it's the cheesy multi-blade dullness at work.
  8:27pm
EG:

what's that horn ... my ride or my radeeo
  8:28pm
CB2:

I love the Gal Behind The Music,

Cooking and groovin'.
  8:28pm
jbm:

Yeah, if you feel a pulling on the hairs... the blade's too dull.

If you really want to avoid that, try Feather blades if you dare. Crazy-sharp Japanese things. Just don't blame me if you bleed a little getting used to them. The Merkur blades seem Goldilocks-just-right for me.
  8:28pm
CB1:

You know this also explains why razor blades come in those crazy enormous hard plastic packages you can't open.
  8:29pm
Don (minister of props):

Cool SDeluxe skratch - Kid Cudi is a fine newcomer to the art. He reminds me of the self-exiled guy from the Nathan's hot dog eatoff whose metabolism keeps him skinny.
  8:30pm
Razor Blade Manufacturers:

It's a very ordinary business plan. Offer the basic tool cheap or free upfront, and then get years of constant income from ongoing locked-in purchases of a necessary and highly-priced part of the process that gets used up constantly.

Compare printers (cheap) and ink (expensive), or wireless phones (free or subsidized) and monthly usage contracts.

Some people say computers will soon come free, with a contracted monthly fee for internet access/usage as the real profit-maker.
  8:32pm
CB1:

Razor blade man. - sad but true
  8:32pm
Don (minister of props):

@Razor Blade - computers are a commodity. It's here folks.
  8:32pm
Sidonia:

Boys, why not enjoy a hot wax strip?
  8:34pm
jbm:

We're not strong enough to endure what women endure. No way, nohow.
  8:34pm
Boys:

OUCH!
  8:34pm
seang:

ain't nothing wrong with that
  8:34pm
Razor Blade Manufacturers:

Car companies have been pushing for people to lease for years, for the exact same motive. When you lease, you never get out from under the monthly car payment.
  8:38pm
Employees:

The Man's got it comin's all I'm sayin'.
  8:38pm
cb1:

I said middle class - I win! Gimme money.
  8:39pm
seang:

I shoplifted sardines
  8:40pm
Davice:

you'll need to steal the money!
  8:40pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I imagine shops would be quite awkward to lift. How would you conceal a shop?
  8:40pm
Nat the Parker:

people making less than 20K a year can't afford expensive lawyers to argue themselves through a shoplifting conviction.
  8:41pm
Fiona:

And as the HOLY HOST said today sans radio: Step out of the way of God's Wrath!
  8:41pm
cb1:

I gave that up
  8:41pm
Employees:

@cb1: When Monica takes a bathroom break, rifle her purse.
  8:42pm

Marmalade Kitty:

  8:44pm
CB2:

CB1, you can't shake your past. That is why I never confess - unless caught.
  8:45pm
cb1:

A wise man once said, "Better to ask forgiveness than permission"
  8:46pm
Gin:

C'mon CB1, it'll be FUNNNN. The good old days!!!!!
  8:46pm
monica:

hi there, marmalade kitty! meow.... i HEARD THAT, Employees!
  8:46pm
texas scott:

that wise man's now deader than a mother fucker, ain't he?
  8:47pm
cb1:

"I'm clean. I'm clean. Ain't never going back to those dirty old ways again."
  8:48pm
CB2:

TS,
wise words.
  8:48pm
Gin:

@cb1: Famous last words.
  8:48pm
AliciaRenee:

that 357-thru-the Right Track really put me on the good foot for gttin out the door the evenin...Merci merci!
...Also big ups to that Sherman Bros doc!
...& also re: petty thievery --curious write-up (sorry no linky.mobile fon) re: loss of merch & profit @ All Volunteer Run (I think for a pres library?) gift shop --indeed, twas primarily the comfortable (if not affluent) volunteers who did the 'lifting
  8:49pm
Upscale Volunteers:

The way we see it is: We work for free, we got it coming.
  8:50pm
Parq:

Your usual fine show Mo. On to Margaret. I'm on KP.
  8:50pm
cb1:

Scott - not dead - but not that wise either.
  8:52pm
texas scott:

cb1,that was a richard pryor ref.

who knew?
  8:53pm
cb1:

CB@ - The Mid-C Modern waltz! sounds like SOTW material!!
  8:53pm
CB2:

WOW! a waltz!
  8:54pm
trsh:

Makes me think of a give-the-drummer-some show..
Happy Sundays everyone.
  8:55pm
jbm:

One source says it was the wonderful Admiral Grace Hopper:

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper

...or were we talking about something else now?
  8:56pm
cb1:

Mo, great show. You make Sunday something else.
  8:56pm
Sidonia:

Fade out: beautiful summer sunset.
  8:56pm
monica:

  8:59pm
CB2:

  8:59pm
monica:
