  12:40am
cheri:

  12:40am
Joe McG:

@Adam: Yeah, I love that 'Brand New Wayo" comp. A gem. Have I not played that track? What's wrong with me?
  12:41am
Adam in Portland:

:-(
  12:41am
Confused:

No mistaking Bill W.
  12:41am
Holly in NC:

Hey all! One can dl Rev William's sermon from Amazon for a mere 89 cents! Best money I've spent all week.
  12:43am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe: I just bought the comp today and am deeply hooked on that track. You probably have played it. I just dig it deep.
  12:43am
Joe McG:

@Adam: Maybe I'll dig it out 'fore the end of the show! @Holly: Excellent!
  12:44am
Julie:

  12:49am
Adam in Portland:

Solange Knowles seems like she'd be an enthusiastic WFMU enthusiast. Solange, gurl, help out at next year's pledge period.
  12:50am
Joe McG:

Yes, Solange, call up your sister! I'm playing her record! Tell her I like the marching band touch.
  12:50am
Adam in Portland:

Liz Berg, I challenge you to get Solange in for a station visit. I know you can do it! ;-)
  12:51am
Joe McG:

Liz can do anything!
  12:53am
Holly in NC:

EXCELLENT deep Stax cut.
  12:54am
Adam in Portland:

Waaves, you call up Liz, and Solange, and Joe, and Trent, and meet Scharpling at Panera to arrange a station visit and love-making. Dooooooo it!
  12:54am
Holly in NC:

Can you imagine if Beyonce grew up in Como & worked with Othar Turner?
  12:55am
Julie:

I think I am too sober for you guys tonight
  12:56am
Joe McG:

Adam and Holly, I like the way you think.
  12:56am
Holly in NC:

I'm dead sober.
  12:56am
cheri:

good night julie,,, see you soon!!
  12:57am
Adam in Portland:

@Holly: ohhhhh, nice one! :-) Beyonce needs to employ more fife.
  12:58am
Julie:

"dead sober" is redundant :D
  12:58am
Adam in Portland:

Thanks, Joe!
  12:58am
Confused:

i'm live sober O:-)
  1:00am
Holly in NC:

Isn't *anyone* have a wee dram on this fine Saturday evening?
  1:01am
cheri:

before i go joe & julie i'll be happy to fix you two a mudslide,,,
  1:02am
Adam in Portland:

Can you just imagine the late Othar Turner flying in a harness across the span of MSG playing "Singles Ladies" on his fife. I can. Fife, Dawg!
  1:02am
Julie:

@Cheri give them to Joe and I will pick up mine on Monday
  1:02am
Confused:

after someone else arrives. the night is young!

hey, the board is repeating old comments!
  1:05am
Julie:

How do you feel about Bill Withers in ridiculously high platform shoes?
  1:07am
Joe McG:

Bill stands tall without any platform shoes!
  1:07am
Bratty snot you're babysitting:

After someone else arrives. The night is young! Hey, the board is repeating old comments!
  1:09am
Confused:

Very meta!
  1:09am
Holly in NC:

Oh, you mentioned Fleetwood Mac!

I took my vodka, I took it down
Added some sweet liquors & I turned around
And I saw my reflection in an ice-covered blender
Till the mudslide brought me down
  1:10am
Matt from Berwyn PA:

The Cyrkle this song ahhh rad
  1:10am
Holly in NC:

@Adam - best image ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1:11am
Julie:

@holly NICE
  1:12am
Matt from Springfield:

Evening Joe!

A FOREIGN "Flowers Never Bend With The Rainfall"!!!! Plus plus plus plus plus!!!
  1:12am
Adam in Portland:

Kiss have never used a marching band in a song have they? Please, God, tell me no. If they have, did Gene pay union scale? Trick question: of course not! Za-zing!
  1:13am
Adam in Portland:

Awww, shucks Holly! Thank you.
  1:14am
Joe McG:

@Adam: If you have a tape of them in Detroit with the marching band playing Kiss songs, send it to me!
  1:14am
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Julie!
After playing the InkSuc set on your show, you should play Clay singing along to them from the DJ Battle, for a laugh!
  1:15am
Julie:

@Matt I've already got that clipped out, but I'm going to wait until the goths aren't listening
  1:16am
Matt from Springfield:

S&G different interpretation set!
@Julie: Ha ha, right as dawn comes up, then? :)
  1:16am
Holly in NC:

@Julie - thank you ;-)

Joe! Coolies! Wow!
  1:17am
Goths:

After all, we can only take but so much.
  1:17am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe: ooooof, if only that were true. If it ever happened I imagine it taking place mid-90's or later, during their Carnival of Crap album touring cycle. I mean while IN their mid-90's. ;-)
  1:18am
Julie:

didn't all marching bands play Kiss?
  1:20am
Adam in Portland:

Hey, Matt! I suspect Julie will be too busy on Tuesday morning overseeing the engineering behind lowering Fabio into the studio upside down. ;-)
  1:20am
Holly in NC:

Actually, ours played Rush. YYZ.
  1:21am
Adam in Portland:

I just wonder if Kiss employed a marching band for a video/tour/etc at some point. And I do mean EMPLOYED.
  1:21am
Julie:

All I can hear in my head is marching bands playing Louie Louie...badly
  1:22am
Julie:

@Adam all in Kiss makeup?
  1:22am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Adam!
Is it really only 10:21 in Portland? So early, so full of promise for a night owl like myself! :)
  1:23am
Julie:

This is part Johnny Cash part simon & Garfunkel..freaky
  1:24am
other david:

Goodnight folks, 6:22, despite caffeine overdose the need for sleep is catching up with me. Will catch the rest of the show on the archive.

Later :)
  1:24am
Holly in NC:

Yes, this is freaking me out!
  1:24am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Why marching bands playing Louie Louie?

My Dad said how all the high school bands in his day wanted to play the pop instrumental "The Horse"--and on this week in 1968, 3 instrumentals--"The Horse", "Classical Gas" and "Grazin' In The Grass" were in the Top 10.
  1:24am
Fact:

In the mid 70s the Ann Arbor U of Mich band played "Roundabout" by Yes. Probably while Ken was in AA.
  1:25am
Julie:

@Matt Because I think all of them did.

Ann Arbor is A2. AA is for something else!
  1:25am
Adam in Portland:

Indeed it is! I'm figuratively licking my wounds because I didn't have the money to go out a live set by Biosphere tonight in Seattle (where I am this weekend.). Daniel and Joe have each done a great job of helping me look past that in favor of their BRAND of fun. :-)
  1:25am
Joe D.:

July's not a woman it's a month

you crazy man, you crazy
  1:25am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: That is weird, but true. I kinda agree on Johnny Cash meets S&G.
@Fact: Sounds like a cool band!
Good night, other david!
  1:27am
Joe McG:

@Adam: You just gave me the title for this show, thanks!
  1:27am
Holly in NC:

I *own* that John Stewart song. Yikes. Begs the question - what other oddities in my music library am I completely unaware of?
  1:27am
Adam in Portland:

Good night OD. All bands should be forced, forced, forced to play the Midnight Cowboy theme. Hahaha. 99.9% of the world's Spikes agree.
  1:28am
Fact:

I was born in AA, and they used both AA and "A squared". Yes, AA people were not infrequently also in the other AA too, and their garbage rattled when they took it to the street.
  1:29am
Holly in NC:

Rattling Garbage w/b a most excellent band name
  1:30am
Matt from Springfield:

@Adam: "You're Breakin' My Heart" is another Nilsson song that would work well for a marching band. They could have the high school chorus sing the lyrics at halftime! :D

Space Funeral Home! Gene Roddenberry was buried in space, so to speak!
  1:30am
Marmalade Kitty:

Joe, anything by the band July,,?
  1:32am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe: hahaha, why, thank you, Sir! @Julie: I only know of Gene insisting, demanding?, that woman around him at media events wear kiss makeup. Really the best part of Kiss, the makeup. Nordic black metal owes everything facial to Alice and the Kissin' Gene :-) I think I just did something there I only 1/2 wanted to do.
  1:35am
Joe D.:

use the aluminum baseball bat!
  1:35am
Adam in Portland:

@Matt: this is why you'd make an adjunct prof to my spitball slangin' back-row baddie. :-)
  1:35am
Matt from Springfield:

@Daniel: LOL at "Gosh Nammit!"
  1:38am
Matt from Springfield:

@Adam: Ha ha, yes! You make me want to hang out under the bleachers with you :)
  1:39am
Matt from Springfield:

Buckingham Nicks! I'm surprised I don't hear them on SN more often Joe!
  1:40am
Joe McG:

Yes, SN has been BN-deficient!
  1:41am
Adam in Portland:

@Matt: I know how to kill time like the Nuge, minus all the pesky murderin' and Grover Nyquist massagin'. Nyquil over Nyquist for 2011, and beyond. That's my brand! ;-)
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

Thank you Lord! Mary Anne with the sh-aa-a-a-a-k-y hands!!!
  1:46am
Adam in Portland:

I just wanna drive a Maserati with a woman named Molly, Mason, or even Mary-Anne, while wearing grease paint and shooting flaming arrows.
  1:46am
Matt from Springfield:

@Adam I dig Nyquil myself--use the big guns to clear up your condition faster. Just make sure you bring some Nyquil gelcaps when you travel internationally--I was disappointed they don't have that brand in Thailand! I found a generic, but I really would have prefered good ol' American Nyquil!
  1:47am
Joe McG:

@Adam: If she has a shaky hand, you'd better watch the road.
  1:47am
Holly in NC:

Must crash, will catch up via archives. Thanks for a great show, Joe!
  1:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Whoa, non-Canned Heat version!
@Holly: Good night, sleep well!
  1:48am
Adam in Portland:

Night, Miss Holly!
  1:48am
Joe McG:

@Holly: Thanks! Sweet dreams!
  1:51am
Matt from Springfield:

TWO non-Canned Heat versions! DOUBLE points for Joe McG! Triple for using only 45 records in doing so!
  1:51am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe: ;-)
  1:52am
Joe McG:

You guys guessed the non-random selections pretty quick!
  1:53am
Adam in Portland:

You will both make fantastic travel partners. Hahaha.
  1:53am
Joe D.:

If you haven't heard this song used in the training montage from D2: The Mighty Ducks then... I dunno, you haven't, then, have you.
  1:54am
Joe McG:

@Duffy: I haven't, Joe, but now I must. Damn you! :)
  1:55am
Adam in Portland:

Over the Edge is my favorite hockey, errrrrr, foosball film of allllllllll tiiiiiiiiiiiiime!
  1:57am
Matt from Springfield:

@Duffy: Gawd, it's been a decade and a half since I saw that...I remember some version of "Accentuate The Positive", Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll", and of course Queen "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions". Not remembering the rest of the soundtrack..
  1:57am
Adam in Portland:

Why have I never heard this song in a horror or Tarentino film yet? Sheesh! Q, get it together. Amazing!!!!!!!
  1:59am
Joe D.:

Don't forget "Whoop! There it is" over the scenes where the Ducks learn how to play tough ghetto hockey from the inner city kids.
  2:00am
Adam in Portland:

D3: Who let the Ducks out?
  2:00am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, Tag Team's "Whoomp! There It Is"!! Wouldn't be a 90s kids movie without it! And that's right--they were actually learning REAL street hockey-- from kids in South Central! :)

Also don't forget The Troggs "Wild Thing", some covers of "Mr. Big Stuff" and "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet".
  2:01am
Adam in Portland:

Jim Brown was a monster Lacrosse player.
  2:01am
Matt from Springfield:

Only 15% score from Rotten Tomatoes??! Maybe they should have more reviewers with the mental and physical age of 10! That might improve the score a bit!
  2:04am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Next time don't put the related songs back-to-back, makes it a bit too easy! :)
  2:04am
Joe D.:

My dad played under the same Lacrosse coach as Jim Brown in high school and was lucky enough to meet him a few times... Manhasset Indians...
  2:05am
Adam in Portland:

@Matt: Rotten Tomatoes only gave Problem Child 7% approval. What do they know? ;-) hahaha.
  2:07am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe D: love the anecdote. Thank you! I think my ma crossed paths with him a time or two as well as a young lady growing up in Cleveland. I'll have to ask her.
  2:08am
Joe D.:

I think it's extremely worth nothing that the name of the 10pm burlesque show scheduled on the night of the WFMU meet-up is titled "AssFreaks"
  2:10am
Adam in Portland:

Didn't Assfreaks take over the original Night People time slit?
  2:10am
Matt from Springfield:

GOOOOO PSAs!
And a very timely one! Don't leave your kids, dogs (or chocolates!) in your car in the summer!
  2:12am
Matt from Springfield:

@Adam: Yeah, what do they know! I once got hooked on the Spanish-dubbed version of Problem Child 1 while channel-surfing. The part where the kid's dressing as a devil for a costume party, I wanted to shout out "El DIAB-LO!" Good Times!
  2:13am
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of dubs, just tonight I saw a NEW Godzilla movie from 2001! It was dubbed and everything! With models/CGI, I couldn't even tell which :) And Mothra, a triceritops monster and 3-headed dragons! Wonderful experience!
  2:14am
Adam in Portland:

@Matt: what treatment facility is THAT child actor in now? Hahaha.

Adam in Portland:

One of my fondest childhood summer break memories is of being herded into a windowless cafeteria room, along with dozens of other primary school children in Juneau, Alaska to watch Godzilla double features.
  2:19am
Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like a cool summer! My parents told me that Godzilla used to be a staple of Saturday morning/afternoon TV, along with dubbed Hercules movies and Bing & Bob adventure movies!

Adam in Portland:

What if you made a super vocalist of parts Nico, Marianne Faithfull, Ari Up, and Timothy "Speed" Levitch?

Adam in Portland:

  2:27am
Joe McG:

Can you add some Roger Wootton in there?
  2:27am
Adam in Portland:

I think we heard it in the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. :-)
  2:29am
Adam in Portland:

@Joe McG: the beast is beyond our control. Only the beast can decide. :-)
  2:30am
Joe McG:

I think the Beast and our Comus will be good friends.
  2:31am
Adam in Portland:

I agree. ;-)
  2:37am
Adam in Portland:

Thank you, Joe!!! I'm going to have to pick up this compilation to go with Brand New Wayo.
  2:37am
Matt from Springfield:

That's a pretty broad order, anyone from the Ottoman Empire in America? So many ethnicities.

And conspiracy theory: I think "Amor de Dias" and "Love of Days" (as in Street of the Love of Days)--mean the SAME THING!
  2:38am
Joe McG:

@Adam: Yet another amazing 3-disc set from Tompkins Square. Compiled by Ian Nagoski. Just terrific.
  2:41am
Adam in Portland:

This BaBa ZuLa is killin' as well. I feel like right now, somewhere, Sir Richard Bishop's eyes are rolling back in his head.
