  4:22am
listener mark:

@ Marmalade Kitty -- " Dig ! "?
  4:22am
Matt from Springfield:

I first learned about this group Sparks from a recent episode of Trent's show--he played most of Tears for Fears "Mad World", then crossfades into Sparks "Beat the Clock". Look up the Archive--brilliant!

They were even more Out There than their synthpop contemporary Devo.
  4:24am
DrTeeth:

Kimono My House! I think I learned of them through WFMU myself. Good stuff!
  4:26am
Clay:

Thanks Dr.

  4:36am

  4:37am
Marmalade Kitty:

Muse! how I hate them..They take a lot from Sparks This Town Ain't Big Enough
  4:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Holy shit....I'd heard of hair band Kix in some VH1 "Top 40 Hair Bands" special, didn't know they actually exist, Clay!
  4:42am
Marmalade Kitty:

they should cease to exist
  4:42am
Clay:

They exist and then some. RIP Jani Lane. Singer of Warrant.
  4:42am
Marmalade Kitty:

sorry clay :)
  4:42am
Clay:

Marm, c'mon. What didn't you like?
  4:44am
listener mark:

The devil may care but mom and dad don't.
  4:45am
Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: That reminds me: Dan Peek, RIP. From America. Julie has actually brought him up on a playlist! Have you played a tribute to him yet? Get out "Lonely People", or "Don't Cross The River"! "All My Friends Live In California" was Dan's I think.
  4:45am
Clay:

The capital of Nebraska is?
  4:46am
Julie:

@Matt No I haven't done anything as far as him
  4:46am
listener mark:

N
  4:46am
Clay:

  4:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Civil Twilight -- great name! Pretty good, like Coldplay's best.

Especially considering it's from 1,002 years ago :)
  4:49am
hamburger:

that is OLD school
  4:50am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Love that one...that was a Dewey song, I was just trying to think of Dan songs for a tribute.

I HAVE this "Election Day" on my Livin In Oblivion CDs, first learned about this as a teen, along with the rest of the 80s new wave on that comp.
  4:52am
Matt from Springfield:

YESSS!!! Clay ramp-up for Jibrille-Silent Mourning!
  4:53am
Matt from Springfield:

Celesta -- I always heard that pronounced as:
"cha-les-ta"

This could just be a synth sound though. It sounds kinda MIDI to me.
  4:54am
Matt from Springfield:

VU's "Sunday Morning" has great celesta. John Cale also played the celesta for Nick Drake's "Northern Sky".
  4:55am
Marmalade Kitty:

Julie would you play an odd track from The Wall
  4:56am
listener mark:

The sound of the celesta is similar to that of the glockenspiel, but with a much softer and more subtle timbre. This quality gave the instrument its name, celeste meaning "heavenly" in French.
  4:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Herman's Hermits is great! But "White Wedding" was Golden Throats material for Peter Noone! I quoted this at the time, but Peter Noone's solo cover of David Bowie's "Oh! You Pretty Things":

"Noone replaced Bowie's line "The Earth is a bitch" with "The Earth is a beast", in a performance that NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray called "one of rock and roll's most outstanding examples of a singer failing to achieve any degree of empathy whatsoever with the mood and content of a lyric." "
  4:59am
T-Zero:

It's pronounced with a soft S sound suh-lest
You can listen to it being pronounced here.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/celeste?r=75&src=ref&ch=dic
  4:59am
Julie:

this one is in honor of Evan's show last week, seriously go listen to it (in an hour)
  4:59am
Matt from Springfield:

Stick to original songs, Pete!
  5:02am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: You had this READY to go! I see you mentioning that on the EFD playlist, so you've been excited about this!
  5:03am
T-Zero:

I forget whose show here where I first heard this. Glad to hear it again.
  5:04am
Julie:

@Matt yup ;)
  5:04am

The Heep comes out again!
  5:05am
Marmalade Kitty:

  5:05am
Matt from Springfield:

  5:06am
Clay:

  5:08am

  5:08am

  5:14am
fred von helsing:

hey cool ! the early queen actually did not suck !
  5:14am
Julie:

@Fred pretty good huh?
  5:15am
fred von helsing:

those early queen albums advertised "no synths!" but man they did do some pretty heavy hacking to their guitar sound
  5:16am
Clay:

Multi-layered, Von.

Marissa will be on next week!

Marmalade Kitty:

was Freddie a wrestler in his youth? I seem to remember seeing him in glam wrestler attire..
  5:20am
fred von helsing:

I think all fans of the early Queen followed their evolution and at some point said: "WTF?!?!". A writer in the Village Voice pegged this soon after that monster concert in Central Park.
  5:20am
Clay:

  5:28am

And LOL to your EFD quote, re: Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing":
"Bee Gees are a bossy bunch aren't they? Don't tell me what I should be doing, you Manx bastards" !!!
  5:34am
Julie:

@Matt it's all a blur! I had disco fever!
  5:35am
Clay:

I am so granddad.
  5:35am
Marmalade Kitty:
