  1:09am
T-Zero:

Oye! Dave Alvin's voice gets me every time.
  1:11am
Switch 'Em Up:

I'm pretty sure that's actually "Black Lung", by Hazel Dickens :)
  1:21am
fleep:

Yup, gonna go to Californy, I hear they got fields fulla Kardashians what need pickin'
  1:30am
Therese:

Fleep, I believe that several of the Kardashians have moved to New York.
  1:30am
T-Zero:

This Johann Johannsson is wonderful. I wish I could see it live with the archive film footage.
  1:31am
San Joaquin Valley Farmer:

Them Kardashians is way past ripe, anyhow.
  1:33am
fleep:

Therese, be careful, without a natural enemy in your environment, they could breed like crazy.
  1:36am
T-Zero:

Therese, what years is the Simone "Work Song" from?
  1:39am
T-Zero:

  1:41am
jelrod:

that Johannsson track is fucking mind blowing
  1:42am
david:

Harlan County USA is excellent.
  1:43am
Wikipedia:

"Work Song" is on this 1960 Colpix album:

  1:45am
Therese:

WIkipedia, I am in your debt.

David & Jelrod, I completely agree.
  1:46am
david:

Speaking of documentaries, "Still Bill" is a great one of Withers.
  1:47am
T-Zero:

Ah. ok. 1963. The reason I asked, is because I'm so used to hearing her later recordings, I almost didn't recognize her voice and wondered how long ago that had been recorded.
  1:49am
Therese:

David- absolutely. We screened that at our record fair a year or so ago.
  1:50am
Wikipedia:

"Work Song" appeared on one of Simone's Colpix albums in 1960, then on other Simone albums from 1963-67. Not sure which version is on the Colpix anthology that Therese played the song from.
  1:57am
Therese:

It's the version which appeared on Forbidden Fruit, according to the Anthology's liner notes.
  1:59am
T-Zero:

That would be 1960 then, according to Wiki. I thought perhaps it might have been even earlier.
  2:13am
Wikipedia:

Simone's first album and first success were in 1958, when she was 25.
  2:14am
Wikipedia:

So 1960 is pretty early in her recording career.
  2:14am
Skirkie:

What'd I miss? Music? Damn.
  2:56am
jaycjay:

Part of WFMU at its best: my new roommate came out of her room as the King Dude track was on and said, "that's my friend!" Because she has already learned what I'm usually listening to, she followed that with "is that WFMU again?"
  2:57am
Skirkie:

Can't say how many records I listen to a good amount of before I realize, "Oh wait, it's a 45."
  11:33pm
Emily:
