  3:11pm
Brass Knuckles:

  3:14pm
G:

Hammer that dulcimer!
  3:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Irwin, hi everyone!

When I miss the beginning, I play an Archive so I can start Irwin's show with Lee Morgan--does anyone else do that?
  3:16pm
Anne Elk:

Um....no?
  3:16pm
Laura L:

Ah! the photograph of Bina48 by the one and only Max Aguilera-Hellweg... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11lluRAknvw&feature=youtu.be
  3:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

I want to go to India with weather like this rain.
Magical dulcimer piece!
  3:17pm
Chris:

@Anne: Oh bloody hell, not you again!
  3:17pm
postmanpaul:

Cant imagine starting without it M from S.... like a painting without a frame.
  3:18pm
Wild Neil:

Irwin, you ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

Glad you understand, postmanpaul!

Even though the "Pink Elephants" song from Looney Tunes was Irwin's theme for years, Lee Morgan is such a perfect intro to Irwin's world, the best theme yet! (like a sitcom theme song, someone pointed out).
  3:20pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I can't hear a word he's saying
  3:20pm
Lionels:

But we aren't trained.
  3:21pm
Audience:

@DCE: No one's paying attention, anyway.
  3:22pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

s'long as I'm not missing any directives.
  3:23pm
Jenniqua:

Irwin! Have you read this article in McSweeney's called I'm Comic Sans Asshole? Funny stuff. http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/im-comic-sans-asshole
  3:23pm
Das:

Signs his name in comic sans, great line!
  3:24pm
Irwin:

Thanks to Laura L for the Max A-H alert, which is linked at the photo.
  3:27pm
G:

Is that Art Brut a chanson à clef? If so, wondering who the B.C. is...
  3:27pm
Laura L:

You're welcome--your link goes to the Nat Geo article; the youtube link is little film by Max of Bina having an existential crisis. Worth watching.
  3:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Mary Mae! I just heard this when I got NJX@NY$ from the Warehouse this Marathon!

It IS in stereo, so if you have headphones, listen to both!
  3:31pm
postmanpaul:

...like a weeding cake without the marzipan....like, like, sex without a little petting first...
  3:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

I can't believe record stores used to give "credit" for turning in used cassettes--you said R. Stevie found this tape that way. I can't believe they don't do that anymore, practically does R. Stevie's job for him...
  3:32pm
Audiophile:

Stereo, receiver, 8 track, AND cassette??? Man, she is totally top-shelf.
  3:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Now I'm jonesing for Clay Pigeon to sing along to this!
  3:33pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

now why wouldn't she sing the riff part too??
  3:33pm
Steve Walsh:

meh
  3:34pm
Das:

If Mary threw some air guitar moves into her performance it would really put this over the top.
  3:34pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I usually sing the guitar solo too
  3:38pm
Jazzy Stark:

skittly doo bop bop bop, yeah yeah yeah...
  3:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Das: There are of course limits to the audiocassette medium; however, Chris "Wizz-O" Palestis takes full advantage of the lack of visual info by playing his own acoustic "solo" on top of the pre-recorded track. A genius who left this world far too soon.
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: I wonder if singing the riff is a guy thing (I always did that, and I occasionally sing rhythm/bass/keyboards or drums as well, if there's a great part in the song.
  3:44pm
fred von helsing:

jez sittin' in a pub, earphone in, diggin' this
  3:50pm
PMD:

Doch!
  3:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

YES! I RULE this week!
  3:51pm
Board Sponsor:

You go, boy!
  3:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Though Frangry reads comments off the board in every episode. And Chris T. And...
  3:51pm
caver_mike:

I want to hear some Amanda!
  3:52pm
Board Sponsor:

pushy, pushy
  3:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

What Irwin means, I think, is that this show is the ONLY show where you can do this:

"WAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!"
  3:53pm
PMD:

The sounds like the guy from James.
  3:54pm
Brass Knuckles:

Totally.
  3:55pm
postmanpaul:

I'm orf, prematurely, sadly, again.

"WAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!"
  3:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

@paul: A happy "WAHAAAA..." to you, sir.

Love this "Holiday", but with this weather and the winter overtones here, it feels like summer is truly gone now.
  4:04pm
Jenniqua:

Hush your mouth Matt. Summer's not over yet. My frizzed out hair will attest to that.
  4:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Is it cold and rainy where you are, Jenniqua?
Or still just too humid for straight hair?
  4:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Indian Summers are fairly common, even if it gets cool now, that will probably change in and out until October.
  4:12pm
Conrad:

Matt, it's a bazillion degrees out here in L.A. Feels like summer's just starting. Bring on the brush fires!
  4:13pm
mickthedog:

Here I liked that Draculas Chauffeur number....
  4:14pm
Carmichael:

It's 100 here all week, with about 40% humidity. And it won't change until October.
  4:15pm
Jenniqua:

I'm in NYC, so it is humid and rainy. Bad for my piano wire hair.
  4:15pm
Couch Pomme Frites:

Keep yer President out of my Thursday Night NFL.
  4:15pm
mickthedog:

And here in Scotland it's dark and cold- man where did that summer go!
  4:16pm
Uli:

its only the second week of school and everybody is studying REALLY HARD
  4:16pm
popo:

please rupert stop it
someone pull the plug
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

@mick: Isn't that always the case in Scotland? What's the "good" time of year there?
  4:16pm
Wild Neil:

The president should just get the hell out of my way.
  4:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

WORSHIP ME! The incantation of Mimi that started it all! CRANK IT, CHILD!!!
  4:17pm
Carmichael:

Now you're talkin', Irwin.
  4:17pm
Jenniqua:

AMANDA FOR PRESIDENT!
  4:18pm
andymorphic:

great show till amanda....always just wrecks the vibe
  4:18pm
caver_mike:

Thank you Irwin!
  4:18pm
Khourash:

BRING Back DJ RIX - the guy that sounds like bob brainen's stoned little brother!!
  4:18pm
mickthedog:

@matt well ain't always as bad as this summer has been - the coolest since 1993. Send us some sun my friends!
  4:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

@andymorphic: WHAT vibe are you looking at?
  4:19pm
Woo:

It makes me sad that this is the greatest music that ever will be made. It's over.
  4:20pm
Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network ):

Amanda yea .... adn Thomas hehe !!!!
  4:20pm
Carmichael:

Amanda IS the vibe.
  4:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

@mick: Sure thing! Order at least $30 (USD) of sun, and the shipping will be free!
  4:20pm
Barry:

Cmon, Irwin, cut a guy some slack. I created or saved a good 3, 4 caddy jobs just last month all by my lonesome. Plus a couple speech drafter jobs, those are good jobs with benefits and everything. I think.

WORSHIP ME, COOKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4:24pm
Chris in Copenhagen:

Lüger was great. Thanks for that one. Greetings to all & everyone
  4:24pm
Barry:

Oops, I forgot -- 4:20, time for a medical-marijuana raid to shore up my cred with moderates.
  4:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

If Cher could turn back time, she said she would find a way. While her intention was clear, her proposal was lacking in details. Does Dada have the schematics for this Time Machine? It would put some much-needed focus into efforts to turn back time.
  4:26pm
Orange-American Boehner:

Shit, Barry, I created or saved more caddy jobs than that in Ohio in August while getting lobbied to reduce taxes for more CEOs!
  4:27pm
Barry:

I bet you tip better, John. Do you cry if you miss a putt?
  4:27pm
Carmichael:

Whoa, a song I actually have. What's this WFMU world coming to?!?

Julie Driscoll/Tippetts is on this, I believe? And the Tippetts guy (Keith? Gary? Dave?)?
  4:28pm
Orange-American Boehner:

Y'know, Barry@4:24, considering that even *I'm* smoking up secretly for my bizarre skin disorder, I think you're miscalculating that one.
  4:28pm
Judge Smails:

The world needs ditch diggers, too. Now, how about a Fresca?
  4:29pm
popo:

is irwin an orange boner too?
  4:30pm
Uli:

LIghtning sets irwins butt on fire
film at 11
  4:30pm
andymorphic:

bye
  4:31pm
PMD:

Wow. Shania. Miley next? No, that would be just too much.
  4:31pm
Carmichael:

Judging from his comments board color, I'd say something like "yeah".
  4:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

So...when's the Irwin/Kenny duo coming out?
  4:32pm
Brass Knuckles:

Okay, I was looking at some other page and thought, this sucks. Now I see why. Never heard her, never want to again.
  4:32pm
Barry:

Miscalculating is my middle name, dewd. Even my hardcore base knows that by this late date. I'll have more time to work on my stroke after next year.

You suckas shoulda took Hillary while you had a chance. Even Frankenstein Cheney knows that. Yeah, I rocked my suits better than she looked in any pantsuit -- but we're talkin' functional policies here.
  4:34pm
Wild Neil:

I asked a lady at work what party Ron Paul is in and she said "Who's Ron Paul?". *sigh*
  4:35pm
Ajax:

Wednesdays belong to Amanda.
  4:35pm
trsh:

They sold insurance.
  4:35pm
autumn:

cats like your show
  4:35pm
Carmichael:

Is he the guy who makes Almond Joys?
  4:36pm
autumn:

the other 90% should be music about cats
  4:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

What?? 10% quota of alternative rock? That goes against the spirit of freeform. I proposed a 10% quota of "whatever you choose" to counter that other quota.
  4:38pm
Uli:

band name : auto tune amanda
  4:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

That leaves another 80%, but this is freeform, it doesn't have to add up.
  4:39pm
trsh:

Did he say, 'quota' ?
I heard that % as 'after-the-fact stats' because, uh.. how would they?
  4:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ajax: A Wednesday without Amanda is like a Friday without beer.
  4:39pm
Cali:

Hi, Autumn! I'm listening here in Holicong on the web. MROW!!!
  4:40pm
Carmichael:

9 out of 10 songs within that 80% have to be chosen at random while drunk. The other 30% can be programmed, but only by fans through the website. While drunk.
  4:40pm
Ike:

Ocean City, Maryland? Or Ocean City, NJ?
  4:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: In that case, we all have to do a lot of drinking to catch up! Cheers!
  4:42pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I bet there's a better Ocean City on the left coast
  4:42pm
Carmichael:

Spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4:44pm
autumn:

hi Cali! how are the goats?
  4:45pm
Kevin the goat:

munchin' on schnackums!!!!
  4:57pm
Jenniqua:

(AP) — Authorities in Trinidad and Tobago have extended a state of emergency by three months, citing continued security concerns since the measure was first imposed last month to dismantle gangs and decrease crime.
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lord Kitchener! Thanks, already put me in a warmer mood, to linger on the summer a bit longer!
  4:59pm
Carmichael:

Mighty Sparrow always does it for me, but to each his own!
  5:02pm
Bad Ronald:

Calypso Gene.
  5:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

I like the Mighty Sparrow as well, though Lord Kitchener and Sir Lancelot are probably my fav old school calypsonians. (And soca--I generally always like the beat of that).
  5:03pm
Pedant:

"top of the hour wherever you are" -- A few time zones around the world are not x hours different from Greenwich time, but x-and-a-half hours different from GMT.
  5:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: I work from 9 to 6 minimum, so when others head home I'm usually still able to remain. (I should get an iPhone w/ WFMU app, how wonderful to listen whether I'm at the computer or not!)
  5:05pm
Jenniqua:

I'm on a time clock, so I have to scan out at 5:15 today. Made it past the top of the hour...
  5:05pm
hamburger:

Hello - Iz been lurkin - does the WFMU app work with Android phones by any chance?
  5:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lord Invader--that's the "Brooklyn, Where De Tree Grows" singer I like. Haven't heard anything else by him but I'd like to hear more.
  5:07pm
Pedant:

They reverse engineered the app to work with Palm Pilots, if you can steal one from a museum.
  5:10pm
SUVs:

Can you say "planned obsolescene"? I knew you could.
  5:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

I know this is a recording, but do holders of the "Boiler" insurance policy get a payout, since Ken mentioned his "boiler" on the radio?
  5:10pm
Lizardner Dave:

@hamburger - works just fine with mine.
  5:10pm
Carmichael:

I've been using the same Palm Pilot for 10 years now. When it breaks, I'll put all my data on my cell, so someone can steal my entire life at once.
  5:11pm
DEA:

It damaged some special home equipment in Ken's basement that he can't talk about? Make a note to check in on that right away.
  5:12pm
hamburger:

cool thanks Dave
  5:12pm
Das:

Will the WFMU app work on my beeper?
  5:13pm
Pedant:

Yes, and you can get the app to play through your handcranked wall phone. Just dial up your local switchboard operator and ask courteously.
  5:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

TWIN SPIN AMANDA!!
  5:16pm
Channeling Irene Sufferers:

A storm in NJ is serious if it hurts suburbanites with college degrees, not just trailer trash and whatnot from a southern state that don't deserve anything anyway.
  5:18pm
Sebastian Bach:

Hey!
  5:18pm
hamburger:

"How much to insure my masturbatorium?"
  5:18pm
Das:

I'm always amazed at how her lyrics grew between those two albums... imagine what could have been
  5:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ahhhhh..and there it is, the screech.
Closest thing I can find to a day spa in my office...
  5:23pm
Brian C.:

I DARE YOU to do an Amanda Three-fer Wednesday. She sounds hot.
  5:23pm
Julie:

oh yeah..this ROCKS
  5:26pm
Ajax:

AMANDA AMANDA AMANDA ALL DAY!!! My favorite. These songs are literally washing away all of my sins.
  5:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Julie!
  5:32pm
Mike East:

Been enjoying the show today, Irwin (except the Shania Twain). Very busy over here. Fashion night out tomorrow!
  5:34pm
Late:

Jeez, I just realized I better post here and say I hate Shania Twain, or my cred will be left forever in tatters. Ungod forbid!
  5:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Mike. "Fashion night out", eh? Does that involve you walking down the runway wearing the latest Vera Wang? ;)
  5:37pm
PMD:

BFF! I knew what this was from the first 3 notes. I could have won a prize on Name that Tune!!! Of course you pick the only song you have to bleep on. I remember he played this live on KCRW and completely surprised Chris Douridas with the f word. Ooops
  5:41pm
Mike East:

@Matt - It means a lot of people who know nothing about sound have put last minute orders in for PA systems and DJ gear because they booked a DJ to play their event and didn't realize that one doesn't just show up with a bunch of records and entertain a crowd without something to play them on. Having me show up and walk the runway costs a lot extra. So far I've had no takers.
  5:44pm
Carmichael:

I never thought of Amanda as providing absolution. Hmmm ...
  5:44pm
PMD:

Cool, Pat Benetar.
  5:45pm
PMD:

Irwin, you are that too. Of course. I thought that was understood!
  5:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: Ah, so that's it! :)
Is that every weekend, pretty much?
  5:49pm
Julie:

I miss Madder Rose :(
  5:52pm
Mike East:

This one more than most...but yes, the last minute orders usually keep me late on Fridays.
  5:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

VERY nice Beach Boys!
Sunflower is another of their albums I need to get.
  5:56pm
~@@@~:

Favorite beach boy trivia: dennis wilson knocked up the illegitimate daughter of Mike Love, didn't know about it until after they started hooking up. He hated Love too so it was even better.
  5:57pm
Carmichael:

Forget all that surfin' shit. Everyone should own Sunflower, Wild Honey and Holland.
  5:59pm
...:

Thanks Irwin.
  5:59pm
Brass Knuckles:

What about Beach Boys Love You? Hilarious shit.
  5:59pm
Carmichael:

Merci, Irwin.
  6:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful show Irwin! Thanks!
  6:00pm
Carl and the Dreamers:

don't fugget us!
  6:00pm
Katrina Survivor:

Mercy, Irwin
